Q: 2005 Volvo s80 T6 Premier I Just got Subwoofers hooked up into my car and they had to undo the battery and what not for the wiring and now my car gives me a message saying SRS Airbag Service Urgent the guys told me it was because they had unplugged the battery and it should go away if I drive about 30miles, I‘ve driven over 100 and it‘s still there and the Volvo Dealer wants 110.00 to fix the light. Q: i have a new alternater and battery but my battery light comes on when i reach a certain speed?: Stop by an auto parts store and have them test the battery and charging system. You could have a loose or corroded cable or connection, or the battery or alternator is bad. Even new parts can be faulty.

Q: just got a 2000 civic si, and when i want to turn on the radio it wont start when i turn the key to the first turn. It always turns when i turn the key to where all the lights turn on where the speedometer is. My friend told me that it might have to do with the alarm system i have, Viper alarm. Q: continues to come on and the diagnostic test at Auto Zone said that an error has occurred due to the gas cap being left off. the only problem is that the gas cap is on so the diagnostic test is wrong. what is really causing the check engine light to come on??: I took my jeep to advanced auto parts and i'll just tell you this; most of the people that work their know nothing when it comes to vehicles and parts.I had a battery replaced once and the guy broke the bolt when replacing the battery and rather than fixing it like he should he just told me to get my husband to put one on. Many times O riellys have given wrong parts. Had a diagostic test ran once and it read somthing completely different. What i would do is call the dealer or any good reliable mechanic and tell him what is going on and ask what could be causing that. I would still mention what the dianostic test read, that way they will have somthing to go on. Most of the time they can tell you without charging you. Call as many mechanics as you can. You can also go and buy another gas cap to see if that is what could be the problem, just keep your receipt just in case it isn't, that way you can return it. Just make sure you don't buy the same gas cap as before. Buy one that's different. Hope this helps.

Q: ok we own a 1989 buick leasaber custom. it runs like a top. how ever. just today the check engine light has come on. now it does not stay on. when you start down the road its off then when you stop it comes on. then when you go again it turns off. i have plans to check the air filter. but any other ideas? its not blinking and i have no obd1 reader and idk how to check the code: A few auto parts stores offer a free scan to customers. It makes sense that they have a better chance of selling you a part if they can help you figure out what one you need. Check with Napa, Auto zone, Pep Boys, etc. There is a way to get the diagnostic codes out without a scanner. It involves jumping two terminals, turning the ignition to the 'on' position, and counting how many times the check engine light flashes. Then you look up the corresponding code. This can be found pretty easily by googling it, but I don't want to recommend that yet. If you can get it checked with a scanner for free, that way will tell you a lot more information. Edit: If you don't want to get the system checked with a scanner, then here is a link to how to extract the flash codes and what they mean: www.extreme-check-engine-light-co. Please remember that the code points you in the direction. You still should check the wiring, etc before changing the component. -Ken

Q: This is a great little SUV. I‘ve been the only owner since I bought it Jan 2000. The only major problem I‘ve had in 7 years is the dealer changed out the cam shafts in 2005. Now the battery light is coming on. Does anyone know what a battery light on the dash indicator could mean? I‘ve looked on automotive forums and many have said to check the ground for the alternator or the alternator is going bad. I hope it‘s just the grounding. HELP!! I don‘t want to part with my Rodeo, it‘s great!: Battery light comes on when your battery falls below normal charge. A normal 12v car battery should produce around 13-14v (I know it doesn't make sense!). Any time it falls to about 12 or under, that light should come on. Two possible problems: 1) your battery is bad and is not accepting the charge. 2) your alternator is not producing enough charge. It could be the grounding wire to the alternator, but in my experience this is rarely the case. If you have owned the car since it was new and haven't replaced a battery yet, that is almost certainly the cause. Either way, it is a pretty easy fix. Take it to Auto Zone and they will hook it up to a charging system analyzer for free. If it is a battery, it will cost you around $70 for a new one and you can put it in yourself. If it is the alternator it will be more expensive- about $500 plus labor. It really only takes about half an hour to put it in if you have the tools and know what you are doing. Batteries usually only last 2-3 years, and an alternator might make it 5 years. Along with the tires, these are probably the most replaced parts of any car.
