- Q: They have just announced today the features of the new CANON EOS 450D:12.2 megapixel CMOS sensor SD/SDHC cards Larger viewfinder Live view mode, including contrast-detect AF Improved 9-point AF system Spot metering3.0 LCD monitor Redesigned menus (including My Menu as seen in 40D) Slightly redesigned info display Continuous shooting at 3.5fps for up to 53 JPEG (6 RAW) ISO setting displays in viewfinder and ISO button New, larger, higher capacity battery 14 bit A/D converter and processing Multi-shot self-timer mode Highlight Tone Priority (from 40D) Auto Lighting Optimiser (boosts shadows after shooting) Kit lens with ISI‘m still contemplating on getting either this 450D ($899) or the 400D ($549). Do you think the additional features justify the price difference? Or should I just get the 400D and get better lenses?
- I would go for the 450D for a few important reasons: 1) improved AF system. Very important in getting focused shots, particularly in dim light. 2) larger LCD monitor. Avoid frustration from having to try to make out details on a small screen. 3) larger viewfinder: makes it easier to compose. 4) improved kit lens with IS All of these things together make the 450D a better value--you'll get more keepers. Any one alone might not be enough, but taken together, it makes the price difference inconsequential. If I were Canon, I'd cut the Canon 350D, keep the 400D and cut the price, and add the 450D.
- Q: I have a store bought diagnostic machine that the guys who work in the shop and sold it to me said it really does work, which I tend to believe since them saying so could result in them losing money. Anyhow, I have a small emissions system leak, did the gas cap, reset the light, it cam back on. So, I am calling around to see who can fix it for the least amount of money. My local dealership said they would have to still run a diagnostics test running me $100 more dollars even though i can tell them what the problem is. They said their diagnostic will tell them precisely where the leak is, which sounds a little fishy to me, i don‘t think that machine would tell them that, wouldn‘t it be a visual or some other type of inspection other than the diagnostic machine. also, regardless of the diagnostics, how much should this run me so i know who is trying to steal from me and who is being more honest? This is not covered under my extended warrenty.
- This is a generally easy question to answer. The leak could be anywhere in your exhaust system. From the exhaust headers on the front/side of the engine, all the way back to the muffler. Generally, though, these leaks tend to be around the O2 (oxygen) sensors. Most cars have 2. Some could have 1-3 of them. Go to an exhaust specialist and ask them if they could help you find the leak. Otherwise, if it is not the exhaust, it could be a vacuum leak in the engine bay. Most engines now have rubber hoses that are all over the engine that allow air to be pulled through various areas of the engine. If you can do it yourself, check all the hoses and see if you can find one that is detached. A good source of reference would be a Hanes auto manual which you can pick up from Auto Zone. Hope this helps! BB2
- Q: My AC does not work and i am thinking that it might be related to that but i am not sure. I hae recently added a PA system however it seems to working fine and that fuse is not blowing at all. When i replace the fuse it works for a short time before blowing once more! Please Help
- Of course, it is obvious that you either have a short somewhere on the equipment to which the fuses concerned are blowing, or you might be using lower rated fuses than what is recomended by the manufacturer. However, keep something in mind for future reference. Do not keep changing the blown fuses, or you might end up destroying the part that the fuse is protecting! Just change the fuse once, if it blows, do not bother to attempt putting another fuse, until the problem is fixed. Also, always make sure that you replace all fuses with the exact same rated fuse as the manufacturer recommended for that bank. Do not use lower or higher rated fuses, and never connect the fuse terminals with aftermarket wires or conductors.
- Q: just bought the car, after fist payment check engine light is on, tested at Auto Zone and they say converter. Options? must pass emissions within the next month- HELP!!
- the car will get through emissions with the converter but not with the check engine light on. the code is for a deteriorated catalyst and that means that the ability to process exhaust gasses (clean them up so to speak) has deminished to less than 50% of the converter's original capacity. It doesn't mean that the converter isn't working so the car is probably still operating within the emissions limits. the code for the converter takes a long time to set, so my suggestion is to have the code cleared and drive the car. If the check engine light comes on again, note how long it took for the system tests to trigger the light. I've seen it where the light doesn't come back on for months. If the light comes back on in two weeks, then simply go to autozone and have them clear the code about a week before you go for the emissions test. that way the light will be off and you should pass the test. If the light hasn't come back on by that time, just go through the test. I know you don't want to know how much the replacement converter cost. lets hope clearing the light gets you through the emissions test. Then you can drive the car until your next emissions test is required without buying the converter. the car won't act any differently with a deteriorated catalyst and won't leave you stranded or die on you as some other manufacturers converters will Hope that helps
- Q: The change oil light came on as well as service engine light and I reset by turning key on and pressed excellorator 3 times but the service engine light stayed on.
- the PCM will illuminate the engine service light if a malfunction in the engine controlsystem
- Q: on my 2003 dodge caravan. It just came on yesterday. Does anyone know what this means? My brakes are working fine and I had them fixed on last year sometime at Sears. Should I go back to Sears or should I go to where I purchased my van from? I‘ve had the van for almost 3yrs. and it has about 120,000 something miles on it. Anyone know what this could be?Update: I took my car in to Sears today and they did a brake evaluation. They said nothing was wrong with my brakes and they think it may be a electrical problem because my ABS light is on and I don‘t even have anti-lock brakes. They told me to take it to the dealership and have them take a look at it. What do you guys think? Oh and Monday I am going to take it to Auto Zone and have them scan it to see if any codes show up.
- Pete is spot on about the relative lack of skills at Sears. The pink BRAKE gentle is severe and should be addressed as we communicate beforehand the brakes really fail. it would want to be so ordinary as low fluid or it would want to be a leak! With those light fixtures the first step is to examine the ABS module contained in the computer with a superior diagnostic scanner and discover out what the vehicle thinks is incorrect. absolutely everyone not doing it really is stealing you money, and that i agree that an 03 Caravan has ABS. be conscious: even as ABS Fails(gentle on) your brakes nonetheless artwork merely positive, yet without anti-lock function. Traction administration is disabled(gentle on) every time ABS is failed. Get it appeared at ASAP ASE Cert vehicle Tech, keep proprietor, Chrysler T C proprietor
- Q: I have an 2005 road star. I found a pair of 7 auto headlights for 1/2 the price of one motorcycle headlight. it should fit the bucket but what about the 12 volt system?
- Most bike headlight bulbs are auto parts mounted in custom housings, and replacements can be bought off the shelf at AutoZone or Poopboys. My light I've run for the last 25 years is like that. In fact, some of the original custom chopper headlights were bolted up right off old antique cars like the old bullet light Chevy's and Model A Ford's. All electrics, both Bike and auto nowadays are ALL 12 volt systems.
- Q: What is the role of the car headlamp hood?
- The effect of the hood is to prevent the light from diverging, so that the light is better to gather
- Q: I would like to find a remote control that goes on my Key chain. So I can turn my accent lights on and off from a distance like 30' or so. kinda like wireless locks on most doors now days? also do they make a modulator for these kind of lights that will make the lights flash in a sequence? if so where can I get them?
- . I think it might be illegal to tamper with your lights, but maybe that's only in Canada. But I imagine any shop that can install a car alarm could help you. ...for maybe $400. NAPA or some auto parts store might have some module you can just solder in but it's unlikely.
- Q: My dad and I are replacing the engine in a golf cart with a bigger one from a snowmobile. The mechanics of the whole operation are taken care of, but we are not sure about the electrical system. the old engine used a starter generator to start and generate power for the lights and such, but the snowmobile engine has a standard starter motor and an alternator built in. We have no idea what kind of system it used for charging the battery. We have the regulator from the old engine and are wondering if we can use this. It is an old mechanical style one with three connections. D+, D-, and DF. Can we use a full wave bridge rectifier to convert the AC from the alternator into DC and then smooth it out with a capacitor and run that power into the old regulator? I‘m not sure how to connect the regulator as we accidentally removed it before taking note of how it was connected. Basically I want it to be able to run the carts lights and recharge the battery after starting.
- These labels mean Dynamo +, Dynamo - and Dynamo field. The plus and minus are the auxiliary output just for the regulator if there is a B+ on the alternator. The field is fed from the regulator, and this is the smaller wire or connection usually. The link below shows the connections. The ignition/charge warning light is necessary to get the alternator started. The wire from B+ to the battery handles the full output current of the alternator. The regulator connections are all 10A automotive wire. The minus side of the battery is grounded at the engine body and this carries the full starter motor current. It is possible there is another ground connection for the lights etc. This goes to the battery negative. There must be a connection between the battery and the alternator frame that can carry the full alternator output. This may be the engine body through the starter motor ground. Some alternators have the regulator built in to the brush holders. The old mechanical regulator will only work if both are thesame voltage, like 12V. If in doubt you can always get an auto electrician to do it. Do the wiring as you think and get them to fix it, so the labour is less.
