Q: The light is on the right hand side of the dash panel and looks like a rectangular shape with a parallel line sticking out of the left top and a smaller rectangular shape protrouding from the right side. Right about the ABS indicator.Any idea what this means? (I looked in the manual and found nothing) How long can I drive without this getting fixed/looked at?: I own a shop, and think you have a leak in the system some place. As for the light staying on a year, that sounds like a faulty sensor in the bottom of the recovery tank (where you add coolant), and it is either not floating up (stuck), or it is just no good. When adding coolant to your engine, you must keep in mind two things; One, the type of coolant you put into the system does matter, and only use the coolant the manufacture recommends or its equivalent. It should say right on the container For all types of vehicles if its the right one. Two; Pay attention to the marks where the level is to be filled to. Too much and it will throw it back out when the engine gets up to normal temperature. Coolant expands contracts in the system, and if you don't leave enough room for it to expand, it will kick it out the overflow. If a system is allowed to get too low, it will pull air into it, and this air will have to be purged from the system, or it will cause hot spots, and an overheating condition. The best advice anyone could give you is to have it pressure tested along with the cap too. This way you will know right away what the problem is. There are many things that can cause this problem, and finding the cause can be difficult at times. The pressure test will find it 99% of the time. Have this done, and you will know what to do next. About the only thing a pressure test won't find is a sticking thermostat, so you may want to have that replaced anyway. Glad to help out, Good luck!!!

Q: Over the weekend our 1997 Honda Civic sedan developed an interesting problem. After starting the car and pushing on the brake I cannot shift the auto transmission out of Park. So I first have to manually unlock it, shift to Neutral and then start the car. Also the horn is now not working. Q: The service engine light on my 2006 Nissain recently came on. We took it to our trusted mechanic and he was puzzled as to why it came on (the code was for a transmission problem that is very rare, especially on a car with less than 30,000 miles). He reset it, and told us that if it comes back, to take it to the dealership as it may be covered by the warranty. It came back so we went to the nissain dealership. It was $120 to check out the problem. They told us that nothing was wrong, and reprogrammed the service engine light. I repeatedly asked WHY the light came on. The dealership thought I should be happy that nothing was wrong with the car. To me, having a light randomnly pop off that requires a $120 fix is a complete and utter scam. If it‘s scheduled maintanence, then they should explain that.instead of simply charging me money and telling me I should be happy. Are these lights scams?: Service engine lights are rather sensitive. Sometimes a minor bump on a component can set it off even if nothing is wrong. You shouldn't pay $120 to get someone to check out the light, and instead by an engine error code readout device for $40-50 and then talk to your reliable repair shop. Never take your car to the dealer for any maintenance/repairs unless you need a new transmission or engine and it's under warranty.

Q: I have a 2001 grand marquis.and the engine light is staying on.it runs great.I took it to auto zone to get it tested and he looked at the code and said it has something to do with my gas.It has been on for a few days what does he mean something is wrong with my ‘‘gas‘‘ he was really no help.I checked to see if the cap was loose its tight and there is a half of tank of gas in the car.Like i said its been on a few days now: That sounds like the Evap sensor has detected a fault could be something as simple as replacing your gas cap or making sure it is on tight. Too a frozen solenoid sensor. Happened on my frontier. Replace the cap first and see if it goes out.
