Q: can someone give me an estimate on replacing carpet with wood 10ft by 10ft =100sq.ft.
Depends on type of wood and subfloor. Expect to double the cost of the wood for professional installationl. Pergo type flooring self installed 17sqft for $50 so around $340 total.
Q: Hello, Thanks for taking the time to read this.Ok, I have been living on aparments since long time ago, most of them are all carpet (no choice), so now I'm moving to a beautiful townhome with 2 levels, first level where the living/dinning/kitchen are is all hardwood floors, I was just looking for slidders or socks for the furniture so they don't scratch the wood, my fiance said that the dinning room and the couches will look funny without a big area rug underneath. Do you think that Area rugs are mandatory on hardwood floors? Please share your opinions. Thanks again.
I usually use a middleweight rug if it is really stormy, heavy rain/hail and a cold wind blowing. I would use a heavyweight in snow temperature. It depends on the horse though. I have a Cob and she doesn't sweat in a heavyweight rug at 3-4 degrees celsius. Some horses feel the heat some don't. My sister also has a very hairy Cob and she wears a lightweight rug with no fill in freezing conditions. If you have a horse i would recommend putting on the weight rug you think your horse should wear, check later, if the horse is sweating that means it's too warm, if he/she is cold at the base of the ear that means he/she is too cold and you need something warmer. Good luck.
Q: We found a really nice area rug in a storage but it somehow got wet and moldy, can it be cleaned? I have it laid out outside to completely dry out, would a carpet shampooer clean it, is there anything special I should use?
You should look in the yellow pages for your area for a rug cleaning company that does area rugs. I know of a couple of places like this in San Diego, where you bring in the area rug (any size, really), and they hang it up on a big scaffold and clean it with pressure washers. I don't know how much it costs, but they always seem to be busy. So, it can't be that expensive.
Q: My 2 year old female has taken up the habit of scratching and soiling rugs in our bathroom. We wash or replace the rug, but she keeps doing it! We also clean out the litterbox everyday, and wash it once a week. She also has multiple scratching posts, toys, etc. She eats only hard food and has clean water on a daily basis. We also have 1 other male cat who is 3. Please help! NO STUPID ANSWERS!
The rugs may have 'litterbox smell on them now. Try using an enzymatic cleaner on them. You can find the cleaner at the pet store. The other option is to not put down the rugs for a bit until kitty gets used to the box again and forgets about the rugs....
Q: I have a couple of very expensive rugs that I need cleaned. Just dont want to trust them to anybody that may not know to do them right. Anybody know of a professional that does this
Go okorder ., to locate a certified carpet/upholstery cleaner in your part of the country. If they do not clean wool area rugs they may recommend someone who does. I hope they are not full of pet/dog urine. Some dogs will mark their territory on a wool rug as they sense another animal in the area. Being stupid, they mistake the wool scent for another dog instead of sheep. You can locate specialty wool cleaners in most large metropolitan cities.
Q: I just purchased an indoor-outdoor rug for my kitchen. I thought maybe it would wear better and not show every little spill or dirt.I had a black rug in there before and it showed everything. My problem is that I can't seem to get the wrinkles out of it.Down the sides of it are ripples and they won't go away. Therefore it won't lie flat on the floor and I'm afraid someone might trip ovr it and get hurt.
If you haven't already, try a rug liner. These sit on the floor between the hard floor and the rug and help to keep the rug in place. Also, gently iron the rug to try to remove the wrinkles - just be careful if there is an olefin content in the rug, as it is prone to being easily damaged from ironing. The final option is double-sided carpet tape - there are some kinds easily available on the market that are guaranteed to be removable from most hard surfaces with minimal effort. Good luck!
Q: I have wall to wall carpets in my apartment. I have placed large rugs on top of the carpet. Without damaging the carpet or the rug, how can I stop them from .wrinkling and moving? Is it caused by static electricity?
Jeff, I had the same problem you have encountered with your carpets and rugs. Rugs walk all over the floor and curl and the corners and edges, causing people to trip. It was either by new or nail them to the floor, so I invented a carpet claw gadget that attaches to the back side of rug on each corner preventing the carpet from moving and curling, eliminating your problem. i have started selling this product to local carpet and rug stores but have waited for an opportunity to expand this idea nationally. Q: can chemical fiber carpet be mopped?
The carpet generally cannot be mopped, it is not easy to remove dust, a vacuum cleaner is suggested; or brush completely
Q: Hair Dye was spilled on the carpet a couple of months ago we tried a couple of things ,even the carpet cleaners could not get it out, any suggestions ?
This type of stain is one of the hardest to get out the carpet. I would recommend using a wet vac and slowly pour hot almost boiling water (from a kettle) on the spot and vacuum it up at the same time, (this will open up the dye ports on the carpet fibre releasing the stain. and remove the residue from the carpet). If the stain is still visible than try putting Dawn dishwashing liquid (4 or 5 drops into one cup of water) or carpet spotter. Dampen the spot letting it soak on the stain for about 5 minutes and repeat step one. After this you should rinse the area again with the wet vac and hot water. If this doesn’t work try using orange glo or even 409. The most important thing to do is rinse the stain with a wet vac and hot water from a kettle to remove all the reside, or the spot may come back. Please be careful with what product you uses (neutral PH carpet cleaning solution is best). Please DO NOT put anything on the carpet that was not made for carpet. Carpet cleaner for 14 years
Q: I'm moving into a house and it is solid concrete, the walls and the floors. we want to install carpet in two of the bedrooms and we were originally going to get stick on carpet tiles, but they were unavailable. We think that traditional carpet installation would be too big of a project for us to handle ourselves and hiring someone would cost too much. So my question is, how exactly do we go about this? Can we just buy regular carpet and install it with the adhesive? Does it need padding? or is there a specific type we need to buy?Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
carpet stores sell rubber back carpet that you can install over concrete no glue needed .you can install jute back or action back with double face tape or glue .. or just lay it down and let gravity do it's job..you don't have to have padding, but it does make it more comfortable
