- Q: Someone Stole my stock radio out of my car (They cut it out) Now All i have in the is wires and I cannot afford to go get a new one installed. Here are the wires that are in my car
- what you need to do is buy the book for your car at autozone. and look at the radio wiring diagram. i had a similiar porblem but with the book it shall tell you were to hook the wires
- Q: I bought Nexxtech Evolution series 16 gauge 30' wire to be able to bring my rear speakers farther back in my room. I have an Altec Lansing 5.1 speaker system with remote and all the speakers connect to the back of the sub. (front are red wire, center is blue, and rear is gray) they are all have the black wire and the colored wire. The wire I just bought are brown, and have a stripe of gray on the second wire (polarized wires) but the ones I bought are much thicker wire... will it still work to just strip/twist/tape the wires to extend the rear speakers? or did I buy the wrong wire? and also, how do I know which to twist with which? (the ones I bought aren't really that clear on which is which... which end is positive and which is negative).Answer quickly please!
- First of all, wires really don't make a difference at all - not for speakers anyway. Any cheap wire from home depot will work fine. The stuff they use for lamps works very well. Secondly, the colors, stripes, etc. don't make a difference either. Here's the only thing that matters - make sure you connect the (+) or RED wire from your amp to the (+) or RED terminal on your speaker. Likewise with the other wire. That's all you need to keep track of. If you don't do this, then your bass will suck.
- Q: my husband is running wire to a hot tub, which uses a 220 plug. he is going to hook up a 30 amp breaker. what size wire should be used?
- It depends upon the length... Assuming the length is less than 90 feet, use number 10 AWG wire, 600 Volt Insulation.
- Q: I am trying to test a engine coolant temperature sensor (ECT), and in one of the tests it states quot;connect the terminals of the electrical connector with a jumper wirequot;. Where can I find a jumper wire? Does it has to be an specific gauge or any jumper wire? please helpd
- mokeyboy is correct about a jumper wire, now comes the ck of the sensor if its a single wire sensor some times called a thermal transmitter, grounding that wire will cause the temp gauge to read high, now if its two wire sensor for fuel injection that should not be grounded, but the sensor must be ck'd with a ohms meter
- Q: i need magnetic wire to make a coil and build aradio
- You can often get varnished wire at an outlet such as radio shack. I have also used the yokes of old TV sets that I usually got for free at a local repair shop. I had to carefully unwind the coils. The wire in an automobile ignition coil is another potentially free source. You can purchase electrical insulating varnish as well. Krylon makes an aerosol variety and most others come in a regular can, but you would have to be creative in dipping the wire and suspending it to dry without damaging the coating.
- Q: Hello, I couldnt find a more appropriate category for this question, so i'm hoping someone here knows a little about wiring. today my booster fan burnt out, so I had to replace it. I got a 6in-line duct fan from the home depot. When I got home and took it out of the box, there is just wires with no plug on it. I have an old lamp that I took the cord off of, but there is only 2 cords, pos neg. The new fan has 3. white, black, and green. the black is the hot wire, and the green is grounded to the metal of the fan, and the white I am not sure of. I just want to know how to wire this plug to this new fan. if anyone knows how to do this please get back to me. Any help will be greatly appreciated. once again thank you.
- As you say, the black wire is hot and the green wire is ground. The white wire is called neutral. It's the return path for the voltage from the hot wire. Connect the black and white wires to the two power wires in your duct. Hopefully the colors are the same. The hot wire in the duct may be a different color, red or something. Colors like this are frequently used to mean a hot wire that's switched. It sounds like there's a plug for the fan. You can wire on a 3 pin plug and use an adaptor to plug it into a 2 pin outlet or just wire on a 2 bladed plug and leave the green wire off. Make sure it can't touch anything and cause a short.
- Q: ok...all the wires in my quot;atticare encased in this silver metal casing....when i opened a bathroom wall...the wires were also like that.....at the fuse box...they all leave like that........sooooo, can i assume all my wires are encased like that? does that make them pretty safe from rodents chewing? (yup-been watching Billy the Exterminator) why were they done like that? tx for any info....
- First when houses were electrically wired, they used what was called knob and tube. Next came BX,or flexible metal tubing which is what you have. Plastic wiring or Romex is the last and most commonly used type of wiring for homes. Don't mess with the flexible metal wiring. There are certain requirements when you cut and enter the metal into a metal outlet box. One of the most important things is a red fiber bushing called a cherry and I do not think they are available any more. I have some that I keep in my antiques closet. LOL
- Q: And i am unsure on how to wire the speakers. Do i just splice the wires from the speakers to the corresponding wires on the harness. P.S. It is not actually in a boat, it will be connected to a 12v battery.
- U JUST RUN THE HOT(RED) WIRE TO THE BATTERY. U ALSO MIGHT HAVE TO HOOK UP THE MEMORY WIRE(YELLOW WIRE) AND THE REMOTE ( SOLID BLUE) WIRE TO THE POSITIVE TERMINAL OF THE BATTERY AS WELL BEACAUSE SOME RADIOS WONT TURN ON WITHOUT THESE WIRES COONECTED. THE WHITE AND GREY WIRES ARE THE FRONT AND THE GREEN AND PURPLE ARE THE BACK SPEAKERS. YOU SHOULD GET THE WIRING HARNESS FOR THE WIRING IF ITS GOING IN A CAR LIKE A JEEP THEN ALL U GOTTA DO IS MATCH THE COLORS UP ITS EASY . BUT STRAIGHT TO A BATTERY DO IT THAT WAY JUST MAKE SURE U HAVE A GOOD GROUND.
- Q: What are the range specs when testing resistance on your spark plug wires ?
- Solid wires (high performance) are under an ohm (tare of the wire). According to the first link, from Popular Mechanics, spark plug wires are supposed to have 10,000 to 15,000 ohms per foot. According to the second link, from David Kucharczyk, silicon wires have 10^9 to 10^11 ohms per meter. As the wire wears out, the resistance might get higher but not lower. Resistance dampens electromagnetic noise that would make your radio noisy and might interfere with sensitive electronics in your car (including the ECU (Electronic Control Unit)). High performance wires are sometimes made with solid wires to provide hotter spark, but they will electromagnetic noise. Some people prefer solid wires because they are more durable since solid wire doesn't usually wear out, but the insulation on the wires might wear out (causing arcing). Nology wires have metal braid shielding (something like a coaxial cable), and are designed to shield the electromagnetic noise. The outer shield is grounded on only one end of the wire. If both ends were grounded, a ground loop might form, and that would cause unwanted current flow within the grounded shield, producing unwanted electromagnetic noise. The shielding produces about 35pF of capacitance (the outer shield is one plate of a capacitor, and the wire conductor is the other).
- Q: The coiled wire is for making bucktails and i would like to buy it in bulk.
- I am not sure what bucktails are, but a good place to buy coils of wire is a hardware store or farm store. You should be able to get aluminum wire, galvanized wire, or mechanics wire (black/brown)
