- Q: What is the use of Fence baebed wire?
- Barbed wire was invented back in the 1800,s its main use was to keep cattle in, a open area, with out building a big fence. i think there is 5 different types
- Q: I was doing some homemade circuit wiring and had a plug wired to a push button switch, wired to the load,(lamp light) then wired back to the plug. My question is the first time around I used 14g wire and it worked fine, light came on at the push button. Second time I used the same plug, 16gauge wire wired to the switch, to the load(this time a miniature bulb that sat in a smaller version of those pull lights in closets) and then back to the plug. When it was switched on nothing happened. So I went back to the 16gauge and wired it up and the bulb popped. Is this because the wire used is to small and not rated to carry the amps provided by the wall receptacle?
- the only thing i can think is you may have accidentally put it on 240
- Q: I own a 1990 Toyota 4runner 6cyl, 3L. it had a few performance issues when i bought it. ( just didnt seem to have any power idling at around 200), so before spending money on expensive items, i figured spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor. So i just changed the spark plug wires today, and immediatly the truck was runnin much better idling at 800-1000 , about 5 minutes into driving, the problem started again, i parked the truck, it was idling at 200-300 again, opened the hood saw a bit of smoke coming from one of the wires, so im hoping and assuming it was just smoking because the wire was touching a hot surface, i can hear a bit of a clicking noise that i dont remember hearing before, almost like a spark. what could cause the sudden problem, is it possible the wires could be connected to the wrong spark plugs ( i replaced the old ones one by one, so i know i didnt connect it wrong) any tips would be great
- The wire burned on something hot and is arcing to ground. Replace it and use a wire loom to stand it away from the problem surface. That clicking sound is the arc.
- Q: I recently purchased a used car already wired for an amplifier, however, when I looked at the wiring i found that the installer ran 8 gauge wire and then crimped it to a 12 gauge wire (with fuse) that connected to the battery is this bad? should i change it to 8 gauge? Or does it not matter?
- As long as the middle of the wire is not grounding at all. You will be fine. You can run any size gauge wire as long as it connects at each end real good and gets a good connection. The best way instead of crimping anything at all is to get a 100amp fuse where one wire end goes into a slot on each side and a screw holds it tightly. You can run the eight gauge to one side and run the twelve out of the other and thats the best way and safest way to do it so you have no crimped hack jobs on it. -Shawn
- Q: What exactly is 6 AWG stranded grounding wire usually used for?
- To connect parts of the electrical system that you want to stay very near Earth potential to the actual Earth. They carry lightning strike current to the Earth if the electrical system is struck. Ground wires and grounding electrodes metal stakes driven into the Earth they connect to) keep the exposed metal parts of appliances safely close to Earth potential when there is an insulation failure inside the appliance that connects those parts to the the hot side of the circuit. The ground path resistance has to be low to soak up this fault current while keeping the appliance case voltage below about 50 volts (above which you might get a serious shock) until a protective device (fuse, circuit breaker or ground fault breaker) opens the hot line. So its main purposes are lightning protection and shock prevention. -- Regards, John Popelish
- Q: me and my friend were doing a circuit challenge and we did the same circuit but she used thicker wires. does it make a difference?
- Thicker wires = larger path for electrons to flow through. If the wire was thin, not as many electrons go through it. But a bigger wire means the electrons flow faster and the overall system receives and gives off energy faster.
- Q: I already tried wire cutters, and they just bend it!
- If you can, put the wire in a bench vice and use a hacksaw to cut your wire. You can still use the hacksaw even if you don't have a bench vice. It just makes it easier. Hope this helps good luck. Richard
- Q: How could you relate greater wire length resulting in greater resistivity to the context of home
- Greater wire length will certainly give you a higher resistance. Since heat is measured in watts, and watts (W) =I^2R, where I=Current and R= resistance, then if you double the resistance of a wire (by making it twice as long) you also double the ammount of watts lost in the wire. Since watts equates to heat, this ammount of heat will make the wire hotter. If you use an extension lead, and wind it round a drum, it can get very hot indeed.
- Q: Trying to wire up a toogle swithch for boat light. Have a positive and negiative wire coming from the battery. I have 2 wires coming out of the toggle switch and two wires coming from the light. What goes where? Thanks
- Boat Battery Switch Wiring Diagram
- Q: The output part of wire plastic and part of wire broken, and the connection lost sometimes, some taps used to wrap up but the connection is still not good. How to fix it permanently?
- Get a new one right away, had the same problem and it was actually burning the wiring inside my computer
