Q: I used my mother's carpet shampooer to clean some minor stains on my carpet and now my carpet stinks and it didn't before!
Several things can cause a carpet to stink after cleaning. If the smell is sour it probably means that too much water was put in the carpet and not suctioned back out of the carpet and pad. The water will start to sour and make the carpet sour. Steam cleaning by a professional cleaner can help. They use steam to clean the carpet and then remove the excess water. They may also have to deodorize. I had this problem about three years ago and I rented the Rug Doctor and cleaned the carpet and went over it several times with the vacuum portion of the rug doctor to remove the water. Then I put our shop vac on reverse and pushed the nozzle through a small section that I pulled up from the wall. I let the shop vac blow under the carpet for several hours. Last year I pulled up the carpet and replaced it all with hardwood floors! Good luck, I hope this helped.
Q: what kinds of carpets are there?
Nylon carpet, polypropylene carpet, blended carpet and plastic carpet!
Q: I recently had new carpet installed in my home, and I was confused that the name of the color I picked out at the showroom was called quot;Fawn's Leapquot;, but 3 weeks later when the installers arrived, the tag on the carpet roll was named quot;Creston Winter Minkquot;. I called the carpet store and asked them if this was the same carpet I picked out since it seemed a bit lighter in color. They assurred me that it was the same carpet, and that the factory that made it uses that name, whereas the store uses the other for generic purposes. I kept a swatch to compare later on at the showrroom. But is this common with the carpet industry?
Yes, it's common. The correct reason would be for inventory and stock purposes. Each one has to record a name so as not to conflict with another product.
Q: Only rug like this I own, a hand off from a relative in a pattern I love, but it needed cleaning, so I bought a can of Resolve and followed the directions TO THE LETTER, practically sprained my back on it, and when it was dry and vacuumed within an inch of its life, it looked EXACTLY the way it did before I started. Complained to the company and they sent me coupons to buy more of the stuff I said didn't work -- why do they do that? Anyway, I have to pay to have my wool rugs professionally cleaned, but not this stuff, can anyone recommend the best way I can clean this, thank you in advance.
The okorder / ... You could also rent a carpet cleaner if you don't want to purchase one. Once you have a carpet cleaner in hand I would recommend starting with plain hot tap water and rinsing the carpet first. The spray on cleaner has left plenty of residue that needs to be removed before you try to add more cleaning solutions or stain removers. Other than that, follow the manufacturer's instructions on how to use the machine. If you don't want to make that investment, if you can roll the carpet up and take it outside, you can wash and scrub it in the driveway with a garden hose and carpet cleaning solution. Once you're done, you'll need to hang the carpet out of the sun to dry for a few days.
Q: I survived tropical storm fay but now have 3 wet spots of rug...my sister said i need to pull the rug up to dry them spots but it's not pratical without replacing it all and i can't afford that..I have a box fan on the spots to dry the rug out..won't that work?
You can use towels to soak up all the water you can. You might also consider turning on the heat. Heating air reduces humidity, dries things out. Warm air holds much more moisture. Then turn on the A/C. Alternating between the two can drive the humidity down rather quickly speeding up the drying process. It will also reduce the humidity in the rest of the house. Or if you have a space heater you might put one so that it heats the air the the box fan is blowing while running the a/c. Then you have almost built a commercial type drying unit. Those units use a small heater too. The bigger problem is the pad under the rug. Those soak water up like a sponge and since they are covered by the rug they dry slower. The commercial cleanup people will pull up the carpet in one area and blow the air under the rug. And something about washing the dirt in the carpet into the pad tends to make them smell even after drying out and I live where the humidity is low and mold is not much of an issue. If your carpet is worth it and you really want to save it I would say the best is to pull the carpet, clean it, maybe treat it, and dry it out, like by putting it on plastic sheeting in the garage. Then replace the pad which is likely much less costly. Part of the considerations depend on how much water got on the carpet. Good Luck.
Q: I want to use baking soda to freshen my rugs before I vacuum. I won't use commercial odor eliminators (the strong scent gives me a headache). Has anyone used baking soda and experienced a change in color or any damage to your carpets?
Shake the baking soda on your carpet and let it sit for fifteen minutes then vacuum it up. I used it a few times and never had any damage to my carpet. You can use it on a small area of your carpet to test it before you use it on your entire carpet
Q: The carpet in my living room is looking worn out due to heavy traffic. If I get it professionally cleaned, will it help make the carpet look newer?
it could. Sometimes its just dirt that gets trapped in it that makes it run down. Try a steam cleaner. They work great good luck :)
Q: I have a 5x8ft rug on my bedroom floor and It seems like every other day it is crooked and I have to readjust it to be square with my bed. WHY DOES IT KEEP MOVING? I barely walk across it, sit on it, or even move on it. It is on carpet and even has a box of clothes sitting on the one corner of it. But the box just moves with it! Why does this keep happening?
you need a pad underneath, they are cheap, can be cut to size will cheap the rug in place
Q: Hello:I am planning to buy contemporary rugs (10ft x 8ft) for my living room. can someone please tell me good stores or online links where i can buy... thanks for the help.
