Q: Hi,This is the first time I am posting a question on Yahoo Answers. Kindly ignore my grammatical mistakes.I live in a town in Andhra Pradesh and my requirement would be a Sofa for my home and I am not really aware of the Home Furniture stuff.Could someone please guide me what things I should consider before buying a sofa likeWhich one lasts long ? A leather one or a Wooden oneWhich one is good for ergonomics How can I measure a Quality/Durability of a SofaAny help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I would definitely go with a leather sofa. Leather sets are durable, adjust to body temperature and easy to maintain. Leather outlasts fabric by far, so that is your best option. Be careful when buying leather, ask for 100% genuine leather all around the set. What that means is, the back and sides should also be leather, not leather match, leatherette, or anything like that. Also, make sure you ask for at least top grain leather, you don't want split leather or buffalo leather.
Q: Sofa 1:http://m.dfs .uk/sofas/fabric-sofas/series/Sofa 2: http://m.dfs .uk/sofas/fabric-sofas/vibe/
sofa 1 looks better and it looks like it cost a lot more
Q: I have a sofa with pillows, but I want to put different designs on the pillows. Maybe new materials. How do I go about making new pillow covers for the pillows on the sofa. Its about 8 big pillows and two small ones.
This is actually not that hard. I've recovered a lot of sofa cushions. Most pillow covers on sofas zip off. Unzip each cover and take out the stuffing. Turn the pillow cover inside out. Then take a tape measure or ruler and measure the size of each of the pieces of fabric that are sewed together. Draw a sketch of each piece, with the measurements. Add about 1/2 to 1 around each edge for the sewing seam. Once you've got all of the pieces written down, figure out how much fabric you will need by making a diagram of all of the pieces. Most upholstery fabric is about 54 to 60 wide. It can be very expensive but there are a lot of discount places that sell remnants. Be sure to buy zippers in the right length or a little bit longer than the old zippers. After you buy the fabric, you can either layout the pieces to cut from the measurements on the sketches or just lay an inside out old cover on the fabric, pin it down and cut around it. Sew the zippers into the side pieces just like the original covers. Sew the tops and bottoms of the pillows to the narrow side strip piece. Be careful to make the corners line up. If you go to a sewing and fabric store, most of the major dress pattern companies also sell patterns with instructions for making slipcovers, which can be helpful. The salespeople who work at such stores can usually help you out a lot with measuring and with instructions, too. By the way, if you get washable fabric and want to be able to launder the covers, be sure to machine wash and dry the fabric BEFORE you cut it and make the covers.
Q: i would like to reupolster my sofa and love set my self
This is a really difficult task to accomplish even if you had some previous upholstery experience. The advice that anyone can give you without seeing your furniture might not be 100% accurate because different skills or techniques are required for different detailing. Piping and trim might or might not be required, your sofa might or might not have a skirt, roll arms are treated slightly differently than square arms or your model might even have wood arms, if the seat is one large cushion you have a different task ahead than if there are 2 or three smaller seat cushions... If you are determined to try this on your own, which I wouldn't recommend, go to your local library or bookstore and find some good books on reupholstering -- you can bookmark all the pages that are relevant to your situation, and keep it in front of you for visual reference while working. Having sofas reupholstered is quite expensive and not always worth it, to be honest. The fabric and other items required to reupholster a sofa often exceed $400 (not including labour). Repairing springs or sofa feet increases the cost even if you're doing it yourself. It doesn't make sense to spend $400 or more to reupholster an older sofa that you can replace with a new one of similar quality for $700. Good luck!
Q: i just got my SOFA ID (STATUS OF FORCES AGREEMENT) do i need a stamp or just the ID to go to GERMANY??? just got my SOFA ID and im just wondering if i still need a stamp on my passport or they will get it to me when i get there (GERMANY)
The SOFA stamp identifies you as being part of the military. It does NOT allow you to arbitrarily enter a foreign country. All you need to enter Germany is your passport. Keep your SOFA stamp in/with your passport. You may be asked for it but I doubt it. I've had mine for 3 years, and have never been asked for it. My wife has had hers for the last 20 and never been asked for it. Enjoy Germany. I know that I am.
Q: I have a twin bed with a trundle underneath for a spare room. The room will primarily serve as an office and I would like to make the twin bed look more sofa-like unless I'm using for company.Any ideas on what kinds of pillows to use on a twin bed (the frame is black but you can barely see it - it has no decorative metal or wood or anything) to turn it into a sofa?
You could look into making a 'slip cover' for the top mattress out of upholstery fabric. It will make the top mattress match the decor of the room, and hold up well as a 'sofa' cushion. The trundle is hidden and not seen, make or find a bed skirt of the same or a complimentary fabric that skirts the edge to hide the trundle from view. Pillows...you can use the new European pillows, they are large square pillows, usually about 23 inches square. Make matching or complimentary slip covers for them. Pillow cases for them are sold at linen stores. These large pillows make the bed look more like a sofa when you use two or three of them across the back or wall side of the bed. You can use smaller square pillows or queen sized pillows as arm rests on the ends of the bed/sofa if you want to. You could use regular bedding shams and comforters or bedspreads and skirts, just choose heavier, well made fabrics.
Q: that has a goldish-camel dominant color with very tiny chocolate brown flecks in it???
red/maroon navy green
Q: I recently purchased a slate (grey/green) colour sofa, and I'm trying to find nice warm colors to blend in. Want to purchase a recliner to accent the sofa. The present furniture is black. Walls are a light taupe. Trying to find nice masculine color scheme.
I know this is a lot of info to take in at once but just look at the pictures and see where you lean towards. It could be possible that none of these do it for you, but then you will know what your starting point is. I hope this helped. Good Luck!
Q: Hi everyone. I've been in Korea on E2 Visa since 4/2009 and just recently tried to obtain a job, but obviously denied due to the SOFA ordinary resident rule.Stupid rule if you ask me because I am still an American citizen and pay my State Federal taxes each and every year since I have been here. Here are my questions: I have read some answers about leaving Korea every 90 days and go to USA. I have a couple of questions: 1. Is a weekend trip sufficient to Guam?2. Does it matter is I am in Korea on an E2 visa and not a tourist visa? Any additional information or advice is greatly appreciated.Thank you!!!!
I don't know that leaving the country and coming back would make a difference. Even fully qualified military dependents have a hard time getting civilian jobs on post here. A large number of the jobs go to Koreans. Even without that, the definition I've found for an 'ordinary resident' is as follows: Ordinary Resident of U.S. A person who normally lives in the U.S. To meet this definition, an individual must normally maintain a residence in the U.S., receive their mail there, and have their household goods at their U.S. residence, etc. (Note: “Ordinarily resident” is not identical to “legal residence” even though a person may be “ordinarily resident” at his place of “legal residence”. The term “ordinarily resident” refers to the place where a person is actually living in other than a transient or temporary capacity at the time of hire. Where one is “ordinarily resident” is a question of fact and law. Normally it is straightforward and can be determined by looking at where one is physically domiciled at the time of hiring.) Since you obviously live in Korea, it is unlikely that they would give you a job, if you left the country and came back. You would likely have to move back to the States entirely, then reapply and only return once you were given the job.
Q: I bought an Aman trunk from World Market which I am going to use as my coffee table, now I am looking to get a sofa, I need suggestions as to which colored sofa would suit. My walls are normal half white color the coffee table is chocolate color. Below is the url for the trunk.
