- Q:I am doing some moving sale and try to sell my sofa/couch, but I am sure if it should be called sofa or couch in an ad. I live in Southern California.
- A couch is very similar to a sofa. Derived from Middle French, a couch is an article of furniture for sitting or reclining. Sofa, taken from the Arabic suffah, is a long upholstered seat usually with arms and a back. but i think sofa and a couch is just the same. It's just that, some people prefer to use the word couch.

- Q:So last night, i moved the sofa to clean up under it like i regularly do. I was shocked, so much that I'm still speechless. The back was slashed from side to side, up and down. I bought this sofa a couple of months ago. My son said his guinea pig was stuck inside. I don't inderstand why he didn't tell me first instead of cutting up my sofa. I cried about it, i don't understand how he could do this. I 'm way too shocked. I have'nt punished him yet. I'm trying to understand. Thr sofa is a total loss, how do i teach him that this is not ok?
- I guess you should be releaved that he actually had a motive for doing what he did. He obviously needs to understand that he should have told you what was going on rather than try to handle it himself. I'd point out to him that because he did what he did you are now going to have to buy a new sofa. You might want to figure out how the guinea pig could have been removed without damaging the sofa, then point it out to him. Hopefully he'll understand that if he got you involved the result would have been much better. Like I implied earlier, at least you aren't dealing with a child that has some weird issues. I don't think you'll have the same problem again, but if you over react he'll probably be afraid when something comes up in the future that he should be telling you about because he'll be afraid of your reaction.
- Q:Also for a rocker recliner (chair), is there usually a lock mechanism to stop the rocking?
- All depends on the sofa. We had one that had a both recliners on one end and a pull out bed on the other. It was a sectional. If it's a smaller sofa, probably just the two ends. And I don't think a rocker recliner will have a mechanism to keep it from rocking... It just won't rock while it's reclined.

- Q:again, not to be taken literallythough you can go ahead and add what you've found under your sofa cushions for fun. the best i've ever found was dust.
- I guess my life is the sofa. Those things under the cushion are things hidden and forgotten and I really work hard at divesting myself from such things. - I used to have a Broyhill living room set and it wore wonderfully. Survived two boys, a cat and a dog. I would buy this brand again.
- Q:ever since we left our cat at home alone a couple of days for vacatioin, he's been going to the bathroom on the couch. he likes a lot of attention, so he probably got angry or lonely, but the problem never stopped. we've been keeping him in a seperate room at night, and keeping an eye on him during the day. it seemed like he was over it. but today we accidently left him out and he did it again. what should i do???
- He can probably smell his own scent where he wee'd and this prompts him to reinforce it. It's not easy to eliminate the odour - even if you can't smell it, his finely tuned nose can. The best way to completely get rid of it is as follows, but it may not be suitable for your sofa. 1. Wash the area with a solution of biological clothes-washing liquid (It has to be biological, as this gets rid of proteins in the urine). 2. When it's dry, treat the area with white spirit. This gets rid of the fats in the urine. You can buy stuff called Feliway which has cat pheromones in. (You won;t smell it, but it will make your cat feel secure and so less likely to 'mark' his territory in this way). You can use this after the above treatement to cover anything that remains. Also, it might be the only option if your sofa won't stand up to the above treatment.
