- Q: All water pump have diferent caracteristics, but it is imposible to overcome a certain hight...what is that hight and why?
- If you are talking about the limit on the suction side of a pump then the answer is about 34 feet. This is because due to atmospheric pressure that is all the water can be raised without the portion at the bottom of the column starting to vaporize. 14.7 psia (atmospheric pressure) equals 33.9 feet of water.
- Q: We bought a second hand Rover 75, three months later head gasket blew. This was replaced but blew again due to original wet liners. A reconditioned engine was then put in but head gasket blew again due to original water pump. I am not trying to ascertain blame i would just like to know which is accurate as car seller is saying fault of mechanic as should have changed wet liners and water pump and mechanic is saying it is not common practice to change this parts when you replace a head gasket or engine. Thanks for any clarification, especially if you are a mechanic yourself.
- Well the answer is..... I am going to take a guess that this is a Rover K series engine. They blow the head gasket just for something to do. Terrible problem when the engine was a 1.4 and it only got worse as they bored the engines out. The original fault will be poor maintenance and a failure to ensure it always has loads of anti freeze or corrosion inhibitor in there. That makes the liner to block interface corrode. The second is more controversial, if I knew the water pump was fairly new then I would probably not fit a new one with an exchange engine. If however the water pump was old or an unknown quantity then I would almost certainly change it, and the clutch too, if I had the engine out as it's such a fiddly job to do. BUT who was paying for the work? If it was you then this would have added a fair bit to the bill (if you didn't tell him to change it then really you can't complain that he didn't do it) and it it was warranty work then the terms of the warranty might set out what was supposed to be done. - Q: I have a Goulds JPlus water pump inside my home. Last night, my wife and I heard it going on and off repeatedly when we went to bed. I have two shallow wells hooked up to it, so I switched wells even though I didn't believe the one I was on was dry (it was supplying H2O fine).Still no luck, so I turned it off at the breaker and shut off the valve between the tank and pressure switch. Today, the pump pressure gets to between 50 and 60, then goes off. It then loses pressure v ery quickly (approx 10-20 seconds) and goes back on when the pump switch hits the lower threshold. It sounds like the water is running back through the pump and out of the house when it goes off unless I turn the shut off valve I spoke of earlier. I changed the pressure switch and no difference.I can, however, turn it on and shower, flush, etc. I just then have to go down and turn the pump back off.Any help would be greatly appreciated!
- Do you have an air tank hooked to the pump? That is what usually holds pressure while the pump is off. It may have a leak in the bladder.
- Q: Fire hydrant and fire pump adapter difference
- Fire hydrant is out of water, the water pump is water supply to the pipe network
- Q: Im considering installing an electric water pump in my car and i dont know much about electric water pumps yet so if you could tolerate a couple of dumb questions....? are electric water pumps reliable enough to be put into a daily driver (i just used the meziere name as an example, its the only name i am familiar with in electric water pumps)? i realise what the engine is basically done if the water pump goes.... could a change this small ever show up on either mpg or hp readings for a 200hp v6? finally, if the electric water pump just isnt worth the reliability risk, would a water pump underdrive pully do (almost) the same job of freeing work from the engine without putting the motor in harms way? thanks!
- Yes, Meziere makes a good pump although, I have a CSR on the 496ci in my Chevelle and it works great too! ADDED: Yes, I only drive this car 2 to 3 times a week.
- Q: i have a 1991 Jeep Cherokee, started overheating last week, i flushed out the radiator with water, i replaced the thermostat, overheated again, i felt the top radiator hose it was cold. so i replaced the water pump. still overheated. every time i drain the system when i refill it i had red to fill the radiator and reservoir, leave the radiator cap off, then start the engine and turn the heat on max, the radiator burps the air bubble out, then the coolant level in the radiator starts going up and down, my thermostat is rated at 195, when the guage hits 210 hot coolant sprays out of the radiator, but the top radiator hose is cold, what am i doing wrong? is there air still trapped in that top radiator hose?
- id say its the radiator after all what ya replaced. have it checked out at a shop. before ya do though ya might do a complete flush of the motor and the cooling system. might be a blockage in a water jacket in the motor. ya can buy the flush kit at any parts store, its simply a T that ya splice into on of the heater core hoses, hook up a water hose, turn heater on, and wait with the engine running. if theres any blockage it will spit and sputter till its pushed out with the water pressure. let it idle till clear water comes out then drain and add coolant. try this first with water only and if it doesnt solve your problem id say ya need a radiator.
- Q: Would I notice a difference in driving if I changed my timing belt and water pump?
- Question is vague. Timing belt makes sure your valves are open or closed when your pistons are up or down. If your timing is off because your belt jumped you may have anything from a slight miss, higher temps, to bent valves and need a new motor. (you would know) Water pump is probably driven by your timing belt, and keeps coolant circulating through your engine block to keep your motor cool. A bad water-pump may leak, or be so worn that it no longer pumps enough coolant to keep the motor cool. Unless your vehicle is overheating, or you are leaking coolant you probably do not need to replace the water pump. The exception is that if it is a long and expensive job to replace and you are already torn down to your water pump, then people usually opt to get it done to save themselves money down the road. Timing belts in interference engines (motors where the valves and pistons occupy the same space at different times) should be changed as recommended by the manufacturer. If you fail to do this and one breaks or jumps enough you will be spending thousands. Hope this helps.
- Q: I was recently driving and noticed my heat gauge in the red. I have a 1992 Honda Accord 4 door LX. When I opened the hood what appears to be water was all over the place. Is this the water pump or something else? I want to fix it this weekend so I was hoping for a better understanding of what it might be. I am aware of the labor involved with the water pump and removing the timing belts to get to it. Thanks a bunch in advance!
- No it doesn't sound like the water pump, There wouldnt be water everywhere if it was the water pump. It sounds like it could be the thermostat not opening up and causing everything to back up.
- Q: I put the new water pump in and the metal tube that goes to the heater hose it is hitting the wheel that holds the 3 belts that goes onto the water pump. why is it doing that. got the right pump. I have a 1986 firebird V6. any ideas?
- Let's assume that it only can go in one way. They sold you the wrong water pump.
- Q: Leaks right under the water pumpOf my truck ford f-150
- This could be a leaky gasket or the pump bearing and seal is defective. Gasket: Drain the antifreeze from your system. Remove the pump and clean both surfaces. Install a new gasket with proper compound and re install pump. You will have to top up your antifreeze properly. Defective seal/bearing Replace the water pump. Some auto parts stores will take your old pump back on exchange. the amount of money credited to you is not much but it keep the old water pump out of the landfills.
