3) What is the difference of Wilton Carpet and Axminster carpet
Wilton carpet, like Axminster carpet, is woven. However the difference between the two methods is the way in which the carpet is woven. Whereas the Axminster yarn is woven into each weft and then cut to the required pile height and then reinserted when that colour is needed again –the Wilton carpet yarn is a continuous strand woven all the way through.
- Q: Can I use a fabric dye (RIT), and just paint it on the 3quot; wide border? Want to change from present light blue to dark brown.jackie
- I have worked with Rit dyes quite frequently and although they are good dies for natural fibers, I am not sure painting a boarder will net the results you desire. First of all, the dye has to be mixed with salt. Because you will not be able to rinse and spin the dye out of he rug, that salt will just remain in your rug when the dye has dried. This may leave salt crystals in your rug along with making it quite stiff. And,because the dye is wet, it will certainly bleed outside of the boarders of the rug. Another problem is the dye bleeding onto the floor causing permanent damage. Even if you can jump over these obstacles, the dye will remain in the rug, full strength because it can not be rinsed and spun out, so it can easily transfer the color from the rug to your shoes to other areas of the house. And, heaven forbid, if the rug gets wet at a later date it will reactivate the dye and boy I will hear you cursing from here. So, you see, using this type of dying process is really full of challenges and there is too much to go wrong so I do not think it is worth the risk. However, there may be other dyes I am unaware of. Do an internet search on dyes and also rug dying to get some helpful hints and possible products that will net you the results you are after. I have lots of resources that I will check on and edit my answer if I get more information.
- Q: Hey i need to have a room recarpeted nothing expensive fairly cheap carpet im wondering whats the cost per squar yard of carpet or better yet how much would it cost to have a room 12 feet by 12 feet carpeted.
- Well carpet can no longer be sold by the S/Y.. All must be sold by the S/F.. You have 144 s/f .. Figuring a cheaper carpet , and this price includes padding . A pad that will also carry your warranties if the cheaper carpet has any... You can get carpet as low as 2$ a s/f w/ and labor. Thats 288$. So round it off to 300$... I d budget a bit more since this won t include rip out of whats there now , unless you do that yourself.. Now I m sure you can get cheaper carpet and pad, but I wanted to give you more of a realistic pricing GL
- Q: I just moved into a brand new house to then spill bright red nail polish all over the carpet any ideas on how to get it out without ruining the carpet?
- This happened to me a few weeks ago. Mine was the ENTIRE bottle that my cat knocked over while I was asleep!! I got it out though!! You have to use a lot of nail polish remover....this will make it spread a little, but for me that was ok.. Once I got out what I could with the nail polish remover, I put a mixture of 1/4 cup hydrogen peroxide and 1 tablespoon ammonia on it and saturated it. After that, I put saran wrap over it and then put a stack of books on top of it and left it over night. This helped tremendously! Then I just used boiling hot water, carpet cleaner, and a little more nail polish remover to get the rest out. It worked too. I posted this same question when it happened to me, so check the link below to see what people said about it.
- Q: How do I remove the tea stains from the carpet?
- Finally, the sponge is dipped in a special weak acid solution, and the solution is dried.
- Q: Basically, my dad washed the rug with laundry detergent. But he put it in an area to dry, where there is no sunlight. So it didn't dry all the way and ended up creating this mildew smell on it. I decided to wash it again, but this time with a solution called Fiber Cleansing, that is used to fight stains on carpets. And I vacuumed the rug with a wet/dry vacuum to get all the water out of it. I got most of it out, but still had a smell to it. So I decided to pour a box of baking soda all over it, to get the smell out of it. (What the internet told me to do) After leaving the baking soda on there for 2 days, still nothing. The rug itself is pretty dry now, still a bit damp on the underside of it. It still smells. What can I do?
- The problem is that most things that get mildew out also take out the color. Can you put it in sunlight with out it getting wet again? Maybe a diluted bleach spray on the back side for just a few minutes - if you don't think it will go through to the colored fibers?? But be careful - if you get bleach on the front you will lose the color and can't get it back.
- Q: I live on the 2nd floor of an apartment building. While attempting to do laundry earlier today, I didn't notice that my washer never shut off.. So it kept filling until I noticed my dining room/kitchen room were flooded. I immediately shut the water off. The neighbors below came to my door stating that the water had leaked into their apartment. The question im having is quot;Is it necessary to have the carpet replaced?quot; I have a two year old, and after doing some research I learned that mold could build up, which is something I dont want. Also when the maintenance people came they tracked my carpet with mud and who knows what else when trying to fix my washer. My apartment wont just give me new carpet so Im trying to get some advice in whether or not I should fight for new carpet.
- it is standard practice to dry and then clean carpet that has been soaked with water. but if it is really soaked they need to suck all the water out and then put special carpet drying fans under the carpet. what are they doing ? you did not tell us. and i guess it is their washer supplied with the apt and not yours correct ?
- Q: i have a shag rug in my living room and my puppy has urinated on it. My husband has done everything under the sun to get the smell out. Is there a certain way to clean the rug, a gentle way? I dont want to ruin it or have it come apart. So any help would be greatly appriciate it!!! Thanks!
- Hand Tufted rugs are hand made by skilled artisans. Weavers loop wool through a primary backing. A natural latex adhesive is then applied to the back of the rug to secure the wool loops, and a secondary coating is added for finishing. Although the process of manufacturing Hand Tufted rugs is shorter than that of a Hand Knotted rug, each rug remains a unique, handmade work of art.
- Q: This rug is on a hardwood floor and I'm not sure how to clean it without taking a chance of doing damage to the floor underneath it. The rug has never been cleaned before. Thanks
- You could have one of those dri-chem company's come out and clean it for you. They use a non-steam cleaning product, so it wouldn't hurt your floor.
- Q: Im trying to find ways to make money for a low cost. I live in and area where there is around 5 other carpet cleaning businesses. Basically I need to pay for gas, car insurance+phone =$70 and I don't know how much being licensed and insured for the business would be. Basically if I get around 5-10 customers a month I'd be doing good. If you have had a carpet cleaning business or experience please let me know if its worth it. Thanks!
- Well, I don't have a carpet cleaning business, but my dad has his own business, I manage the office at a business, and I am studying business. Carpet cleaning services is a competitive business. While you have competition, you must provide better quality work at cheaper/same costs. Licensing/insurance for the business may go off of the amount of profits you obtain. It may (equal) about another $70 a month (give or take a little). I think carpet cleaning would be a great business to get into! Most households/businesses have carpet that needs cleaned. You'll encounter customers that can't clean their carpets or just don't want to; thus, they'll hire someone to do it. I would take into account that you may encounter some nasty scenarios: i.e. flea-infested carpets, carpets with feces/urine, or other dirty circumstances. If they wouldn't bother you, go for it! Good luck!
- Q: The rug does lays down and doesn't roll back up, it just keeps quot;crinklingquot; up and Ill pull it to straighten it out and 5 min. later its all wrinkly again......it lays on carpet, what can I do?
- I have a rug in my living room and I have a coffee table that's on top of it. Of course I have tile not carpet. Maybe you can go to dollar general or Walmart and buy a cheap table or something to keep on top of it. You can even search online and order a table!
