Q:should I use cement board or a leveling compound for my tile flooring?: You can use either. As long as the self leveling compound is poured a minimum of a 1/2 This way or 1/2 cement board, properly installed, will meet both ATC and TCA tile hand book guidelines.This being a minimum of 1 1/4 minimum total substrate for tile base. By the time you use a primer on the floor for the compound , it isn t very cost effective, but you will have one nice hard level floor. Q:Bought new ceramic tile for kitchen and the old stuff is hard to get up. I want to keep the cement board that is in there for the new stuff.: It's next to impossible to remove Ceramic with out damaging the cement board. Esp. if the tile was installed properly to begin with. Tile is installed with a thin-set type mortar when using a Cement backer. If installed over plywood they would have used a ceramic Mastic [glue] That can be removed much easier. You can however lay the new tile over the old, but this will raise the level of the floor, not a good idea when in the Kitchen.

Q:Has anybody made a claim for and been paid for the cement board siding class action lawsuit?: Dont okorder has some good examples of past class action lawsuits and for a really good read, read Grisham's the king of Torts. Q:Can you use rubber cement on a science fair poster board to glue papers down?: Rubber cement will damage some plastics and polished surfaces. If that is not a problem, then it can form a strong yet flexible bond, so may be suitable for your purpose.

Q:This is behind my vinyl siding and above my drop tile ceiling.: It would most likely be asbestos because nobody in there right mind would cover Hardi with vinyl.

Q:how do I drywall over cement in a basement? How do i attach the drywall to the walls?: First you put a barrier on the inside of the outside walls, like sheets of plastic. Then you frame the wall with 2X4's and attach them to the outside wall. Last you nail the drywall to the framing. This insulates the wall with a pocket of air and keeps the drywall from being ruined by condensation.

Q:do i need mortar under the cement board?: no you just screw it to the wall or studs. then after its up you tape and mortar the joints with special mortar and tape. then you tile or put you tub surround up over it

Q:What are the drill bits for the cement board?: If you can only use a large diamond (diamond drilling machine) usually able to dry to a diameter of 200 if the professional ability to 400-500 mm Now the big demolition company has a capacity to 1 meter in diameter

Q:Sorry for the double post, this is an addendum to my previous question. I am planning to re-tile the downstairs foyer. Since it's on the 1st floor of a townhouse with no basement I think there's cement slab underneath, but if I need backer board I need to purchase and make arrangements to cut (I don't own a saw yet). I'd like to take a couple tiles off to check, but how can I tell the difference between the two?: You won't be able to pound a nail into the concrete.
