- Q: i am trying to build a slideboard (he kind that speed skateres and hockey players use) by gluing a piece of particle board to a sheet of tileboard.yesterday i applied a generous amount of contact cement and put the two together immediately to dry. today they are not even sort of stuck together. what is the most likely cause?could it be because i did this in my dingy and freezing cold basement?or are you not supposed to use contact cement on particle board and or tileboard?the instructions did call for plywood and linoleum.
- the temp being so cold didnt help,and did you wait an hour before marrying the two pieces??if not,air has not had a chance to set the glue up for contact adhesion.
- Q: I removed a fiberglass tub and enclosure since it was damaged beyond repair. I am now installing a steel tub and am going to install an enclosure with it as well to save time with tiling. Now with the studs exposed, I would think I would put up a vapor barrier on the studs, then the durock cement board and then attach the enclosure. I know you use cement board for tiling, but if you are putting up an enclosure do I still use cement board?
- You don't need to use Durock (cement board) if you are installing a surround. You would use that if you were putting tile around the tub. Other posts mention green board, and that is what was used in the past, but it is more common now to use a wallboard that is mold and mildew resistant, such as Gold Bond XP, made by National Gypsum, which is purple. You should be able to find that, or a similar product by another manufacturer at your local building materials dealer. Good luck!

- Q: I've put up my cement board walls now not sure what 2 use on it as a thin coat? I am not going 2 put tile on just want a textured cement look. Also is there a metalic type paint I can use on cement? I'm looking for options in my new shower area. There is a wax or plastic also that looks like it was a type of tile adhesive that I don't know how to get off before I stain or paint the concrete. Any suggestions on how to get it off? Can I use spray paint on the concrete in a shower area? Thank you

- Q: the post box had 2 -2x6 boards somehow attached to the cement. The boards rotted out and fell over in a windstorm. I'd like to attach a 4x4 post bracket on the cement, then put a pressure treated 4x4 post for the mailbox. I think I need to get the bracket fixed so it's level before I drill into the cement. would I use an epoxy glue to do this?

- Q: We are remodeling our Bath and have put cement board around the shower which we will tile. My question is, do I continue to use cement board around the remainder of the bath or put up green board. The cement board in only 1/4 inch. Can I get greenboard that is 1/4 in. thick? I don't want a ridge between were the two meet. The tile will run half way up the wall and the other half painted in the remaining part of the bath.

- first of all you dont need cement board ( hardie board) all you need is an adhesive backed drywall tape and joint compound. the cement board is way too heavy. It will look funny too once you apply the joint compound. cement board is used for ceramic tile installation on plywood subflooring. * the perfect patch, no mater how big, is to 1) get a piece of 1X (One by) (however long the hole you need to patch) plus three inches longer 2) place the 1X horizontally across the hole and screw with sheetrock screws on either side of the hole to secure the wood to the back of the existing sheetrock. 3) apply a scrap piece of sheetrock cut to fit almost perfectly over the hole 4) screw the new dry wall to the wood behind it. 5) tape, bed, sand the rough uniformly, texture and paint. you can buy the wall texture at the Home Depot ( it comes in rolls like wallpaper. Put the texture on after you sand off the excess compound but before you paint. Be sure to countersink the screws but not all the way through the sheetrock, then mud the holes. Good luck
