- if he runs log books than he can drive 14 hours and he has to take 8 hr. break. my husband works with a company that has cement drivers. and once they get were they are going they could be stuck there for days. it all depends on the company also. the company can have him illegally run a few log books at once to. you can contact the labor board and they can tell you for sure.

- Putting down backer board is a waste of time and money when going over a smooth cement floor. Backer board is used to stiffen up an existing wooden floor or wall. It can also be used when planning a shower to allow for build up to slope to a drain. As far as sweating is concerned backer board will not prevent it if it is a problem. It will just make your floor thicker. The sweat comes from the air contact with a cooler floor surface it is not from water seeping through the floor. A dehumidifier will help to solve this problem in the summer months. Make sure you use a sufficient base of thinset (1/4 inch trowel minimum, 1/2 inch if uneven or rough spots). Mixing a latex additive to the grout is also a good idea in below grade and outdoor grouting situations.
- Q: I need side and rear clearance for a 15 year old wood stove. The 2x4 walls are covered with cement board and ceramic tiles. Behind that is a foundation wall.
- In WA state, with a *certified* wood stove, the clearence is anywhere from 18 to 24 inches. You can put anything non-combustable on that wall... tile, rock, brick, Z brick, or metal plating with 1 air space from backer board. You could always check with the court house to find out what your local building codes are.
- Q: I currently have a cheap ceramic tile on my bathroom floor. It is set on cement board. I would like to replace it with a slate-like porcelain tile. Can I simply remove the ceramic tile or do I have to also tear out the cement board and replace it? How big of a project is this? I previously installed porcelain tile on a plywood floor over cement board and am wondering if the demolition creates a bigger problem.
- You could lay over what is there if the ceramic isn't slick or shiny on top. Getting off the old may not be as hard as one would think. Then again it may be a bear, I'd smack one with a hammer and just see how hard it would be to get out. This would not create such a height gain in the long run. If it is a nightmare then I'd cement the broken tile you took outs spot and go over top what is there if possible. Getting the old cement board completely out I believe would be a chore but I may be wrong.
