Q:our cement board was left out in a rain storm and then was installed under marble tiles. will this be an issue?: Yes it can, but makes sure its dry before it gets closed off (tiled over)

Q:i glued a piece of regular printer paper to a piece of matboard as part of an art project. since i applied rubber cement to both the paper and the board, it bonded quite strongly. the problem is that now i have to remove the paper with the least amount of damage to the matboard. the paper is white and the board is black. its been over a week since i glued the two together. HELP!! i need this for school and it has to look good...any suggestions??im going to throw the paper away, so that can be damaged in the process. no problem.: Try painting it. --Jim

Q:hi my daughters room has cement sheeting (panels) that make up her walls and roof and it looks really bad. I can see the joining lines even though its been painted over - do i have to remove all the walls and have the walls re plastered? is there any handy hits to fix this up? not sure you could putty up the lines and sand back as the boards currently up have big grooves - i did think about wood paneling around the room but you would still have the roof issue and the board lines above the panels - looking for a cost effective solution. Thanks heaps: DO NOT do any sanding or cutting or breaking of these boards, the dust can cause cancer withing months to 20 years as the fibers get permanently lodged in your lungs. there are special company's that deal with removing it. DIY terms you could always line the walls with new studs and put new plaster board ( as long as your studs are nailed to existing studs) but that would make your room smaller and you would have to extend the electrical. Or you could just sheet over the existing sheeting.

Q:I am making a custom kitchen island and I planned to tile the top of it. The top of the island is going to be made of thick plywood for strength and I was told by the man at the hardwood store where I bought all the supplies that I needed to place cement board down on the plywood before I placed the tile down. I had bought a trim to go around the table top, hoping that it would be flush with the tile once the time went into place, however using the cement board makes the trim flush with the cement board and after the tile is installed, it would be about 5 mm taller than the trim. Do I really need to use the cement board? Would it be a bad idea to place the tile and mortar directly on the plywood?: keep in mind that although ceramic tile may be impervious to water and other fluids, the grout between the tile is not. if there is a chance that something will spill with any regularity it will get through the grout and you could end up with mold. this is not a situation into which you want to place your family. there is a product called tilebacker board which is available in 1/4 thickness. moisture will still get by the grout, but it will not be in contact with the wood structure which of course is organic.

Q:I know that cement board can be installed over a vinyl floor, but can it be installed over wood laminate? I am planning to install 12x12 slate tile and want a good foundation without having to do any more work than necessary. Thank you.: NO!!!! Your cement board needs to be thin set down & screwed or stapled the moisture in the mud will blow up the Laminate,The job would look good for about month then your slate would jump off the floor The laminate is real easy to remove all you do is remove the base or trim use a skillsaw to make couple of cuts, the rest will come right up in pieces remove the pad. If the floor is concrete you dont need backer board good luck ! one tip: seal your slate once before you grout makes for easy clean up

Q:Is it ok to pour floor leveling compound over hardibacker cement board?: ive used a liquid leveling compound on it and got great results on cement board though the drying was spotty and needed more than one layer to achieve desired results. it was only on a very small area about 8 x 10
