- OMG you like those?! their called flourescent lights and you can get them anywhere but lowes or home depot would be best. their easy enough to install but you would probably need a surface mount one which would look hideous. most offices have drop ceilings so the lights just drop into the grid but at your house since you probably have drywall you would have to screw a surface mount fixture right to the drywall.
- Q: Okay so this may sound weird, but my bedroom ceiling is basically made out of office tiles (almost like a suspended ceiling) and I would like to change it to a normal ceiling (drywall). Is there any way I can do this, and if so how much would it cost and who should I contact to get it done?
- There are too many unknowns to give a good answer. If the structure holding up the grid is strong enough the cost for an 48 x 96 sheet is about $10, your whole ceiling could be done for a $100. BUT that is unlikely, often that type of ceiling is installed where electrical splices and construction conditions exist that make installing a normal ceiling practically be installed. you will probably will need to have significant framing and have to install ugly hinged access doors.

- Drop ceilings are quite simple if you plan ahead. What I mean by that is you got to draw it out first on paper. Most of the tiles comes in a 2 ft by 4 ft piece or a 2 X 2 piece. Measure out the width and lenght of your space and divide into the size of tiles that you have choosen. That will give the odd sizes that is left behind. You take that odd size and then divide it into 2. (example... The room is 24 ft 10 inches long. you will have 12 even tiles (2x2) and 10 inches left. That means you will have a 5 inches space on each end of the room with full tiles in between.) Make sure that you secure your tie wire very well on your main T Bar. Especially if you plan on installing lights in the dropped ceiling grid. your hardware store will tell you what kind of tie wire you should have. One last thing... make sure you give enough space to install your tiles after the ceiling grid is up. The last thing you want is to fight with the tiles because you can't slip them in. Good Luck
- Q: I want the finished look to be like a grid pattern just on the wall my bed is on. The part that confuses me is how to attach the molding to the wall? Do I need to install MDF or something similar before laying out my grid pattern?
- You shouldn't have to install MDF in order to do that unless maybe your wall was not flat. And yes, it should look good with a vaulted ceiling. You'll also want to make sure that your trim boards aren't bowed. Most likely, all you'll really need to do is nail where the studs are on your wall.

- Monumental doesn't even came close. To make it realistic you will need to do it on the ceiling, otherwise it will look like patchwork. First thing is to design on paper what you want it to look like. Then transfer design to grid paper. No stepladder. Buy a scaffold that is big enough and high enough to lie on. Transfer your design to the ceiling. You can make stencils for this, and use multiple chalk lines to keep everything straight. Before you start, practice on a plywood board. When you buy your materials, make sure you tell the salesman you are doing a ceiling so you get the right cement or mastic. It took Michelangelo 7 years to do the Sistine Chapel, and he used paint.
