- Q: will it add more speed and torque? lxi is a little bit underpowered. will it make a difference whenever i go uphill? what side effects or problems to the engine would it cause upon use?
- Personally I prefer 68, most forgiving irons I've hit.
- Q: i have a 2004 chevy silverado and i was wondering wut is a good type of cold air intake to buy?? and does that increase hp and mpg??
- I would go with something from K+N. They make quality parts and installation is easy and painless. Plus it has a lifetime air filter that just needs cleaned and re-oiled every once in a while. However, I don't feel that those intakes are true cold air intakes because they don't draw air from an outside source. I do remember watching an episode of Trucks( or something similar) on spike one morning and remember them installing a true cold air intake system in a truck similar to yours. There is a kit that is an actual cold air intake. This kit has a new air intake tube, air filter, air filter box, and it also included a scoop like piece that connected to the filter box and was mounted below the front nose or bumper of the truck to draw in outside air. Sadly, though, I forget what the name of the kit was. It was, however, also fairly simple to install, which makes it number one in my books. As far as HP and MPG goes, I'm almost positive that both will be increased. Most manufacturers state the kind of gains you will receive in order to advertise their product.
- Q: i have a 66 chevy truck with a 350 in it is there any way to make a cold air intake for it
- for what/just take the air cleaner off/thats as cold as it gets/cant believe you believe that sewer pipe bull pappy/no known test have shown those pipes do anything except cost gas miles/take longer for engine to warm so efi keeps the mixture richer/you dont have efi/if it makes you happy go to home depot and get some plastic pipes and go for it
- Q: i want a real cold air intake not a short ram intake
- save your money, your car has a cold air intake on it from the factory, you will not get fifty horsepower from a sewer pipe with an air cleaner and it may lean out your motor which can cause an engine light to pop on, as the motor burns up. same deal with the chips, marketing gimmick at its worse, these companies make a lot of money, you will be able to hear your intake, but this does not make horsepower. you want good honest horsepower, drop an engine with a turbo in it and enjoy, otherwise keep your money in your pocket it will do more good there then some greedy executive good luck
- Q: i have a 96 3.8l v6 camaro that i am looking to get a little more power from (but not v8 kind of power, or mileage). i i am planning on doing either a cam or a (used) conservative turbo setup. both of those are far in the future though. in the meantime, i was wondering about a ram air setup. i havfe not done any research on ram air mods for my car and i dont even know if there is one made. before i spend a ton of time researching this mod, coudl you say, as a general statement, if a ram air intake would do anything (at all) and would it be anywhere worth the price to do it? thanks
- You get about 1% HP increase at 150 MPH for the ram effect For a street car, you're only doing it for the cold-air benefit. The only reason I had the Ram-Air hood on my Camaro was due to an accident and they other guy's insurance had to replace my hoodso it was pretty much a freebie
- Q: i have a 97 honda prelude and im trying to decide on a complete cold air intake. which system is better for the prelude (better as in most performance) currently i am tossing up between a KN typhoon system complete cold air (CCA) and a fujita complete cold air system
- I would go with Fujita less of a hassle when you clean the air filter, There dry fulters and dont need to be oiled which is like a magnet for dirt and they have the same Design like ApexI.
- Q: A Secret Dragon Weapon R intake or a Short ram intake from AEM i have a 2000 Mercujry Cougar 2.0L 4 cylinder manual trans
- As far as performance gain is concerned, they're basically the same. However, I'd go with the AEM setup, better quality and durability.
- Q: what could happen ? i mean what does moisture in the intake do?
- hydro-lockvery bad and engine rebuild just get a short ram.
- Q: i am making one for my 1990 prelude and wondering if there is a specific location for the filter to be towards the front or the back of the engine ? also how low ?
- I would bet that your 1990 Prelude already has a factory installed cold air intake. In the mid 1980s, to lower emissions, most automobile makers began installing cold air induction at the factory. Most of those breath air from between the inner fender panel and the fender liner. A great many naive young people rip that factory cold air induction system out and replace it with an aftermarket product that is no better than the factory setup, and a lot of times an aftermarket product that is not even as good as the factory setup.
- Q: I have a 1999 dodge durango with a 5.9L 4x4. Right now, it is pretty much stock as far as the drive train is concerned. I am looking to increase my gas mileage a little, Get some more power, and dress it up under the hood a little. About the gas will I actually SEE a difference? The horsepower would surely be different if I put it on a dyno or something but will I actually be able to notice a difference if I put say a KN intake on it? I have already seen how they look and I like it but I don't want to spend 200 bucks or more on something that will just look good especially if you only see it when I open the hood. Does anyone have any suggestions on a certain brand from experience? ALSO Other than physically installing the intake tubing, will I have to do anything else before I use it, i.e. reset some kind of sensor or computer so it will detect the increase in air and therefore supply the appropriate amount of fuel?
- Nope. You will see basically no difference, mileage or dyno. Let's assume you manage to get 10% increase in your mpg. Seeing as your stock mpg is somewhere around 11, that will bump you up to 12.' So, 100 miles now takes you 8.33 gallons, instead of 9.1. Sounds like a bit of a gain. Saves you about 2.80$ per 100 miles. Which means, to pay off the $200 you just spentyou have to drive 7,100 miles, before you've paid off the intake. Before you actually start to save any money. And since the actual difference will be around 5%, you're really looking at around 15,000 miles. So, nope, not worth it on that side. For the dynoyou might gain about 5-6 wheel horsepower, at peak. For your overall powerband, the average will be around 2-3. Which, unfortunately, is not enough to actually notice. Most people, get an intake, then drive harder, to try it out. So, it seems like they have more performance. But it's really just them driving harder than before. I could answer the rest of the questions, but there's really no point.
