Q:I had recently purchased and installed a short ram air intake in an ‘06 Elantra. The ad and people from forums i have read stated getting a little more horsepower and the slightest increase in gas mileage. At 75 mph (in cruise control), i drove on a highway for about 15 miles (not curvy or hilly).the Elantra burned 2 gallons of gas.another test was at 105 mph.and i burned a little over 2 gallons.i‘m confused as to how this is possible.and why at such a low speed the gas was used so quickly.
My truck gets a lil' worse then that but thats because its a 1984 Chevy with a big block if your getting close to my gas millage you need to take that new of a car to the junk yard but I would say that the intake is probably the problem. Check for leaks if there is one I would try putting new gaskets with high temp sylicone if the problem keeps occuring take it to get a tune up also have the sencors checked make sure you reinstaled everything correctly and all of the proper sencors are in there orginal locations.
Q:I was driving on heavy rain last week, all the sensor lights suddenly blinked and the engine stopped for like 10 seconds, and it went back on, after the rain it runs normal again. the next day it happened again because of another rain, and it went back to normal again. This hapenned after installing a new air intake. It runs perfectly on cloudy/sunny days. Do i need to replace the spark plugs and have my oil changed again? suggestions please
The original *cold air intake that Toyota designed has an overflow water-spill tube built directly on the plastic intake system. High dollar aftermarket systems have no provisions to baffle and drain off water before or after the air cleaner. If and when you suck enough water in the motor it hydraulic a connecting rod. You could have purchased a TRD high flow air cleaner at the Toyota parts counter. It would fit the original plastic cold air box and you wouldn't be having these problems.
Q:Cold air intake replaces the old intake system, but I thought the throttle body replaces the intake system also so can you have both?
ITB's means individual throttle bodies meaning each intake port would have its own throttle body. if you have a single throttle body then you do not have ITB's. ITB's dont normally have air intakes above the trumpet inlets for the throttle bodies as the velocity is generally affected through the intake trumpets. You can remove the trumpets and add a common plenum cap and then go to a single larger intake plenum to an intake pipe and then filter but I wouldnt really attempt to do air filters unless space is not an issue. there's a reason all the old hotrods simply used tennis balls over the intake trumpets when the car was off versus putting on air filters lol. even the honda boys that go n/a and ITB dont normally have air filters.
Q:Any suggestions??? Is there a difference between the cold air intake for a coupe and a sedan? Short ram or regular?
I tension a Toyota so I won't bag on eastern automobiles. i will bag on people attempting to make a civic quickly. they are not. a chilly-air intake will furnish you perchance 3hp develop and specific no longer something. Your vehicle gets louder and lose some resale and since the 1st reaction stated, if performed incorrect, you run the possibility of sucking water into your motor and messing issues up incredibly undesirable. in case you opt for a quickly vehicle, sell the civic, purchase a Supra or 300Z or something like that. those automobiles have been made to circulate quickly whilst your civic replaced into made to final 10000 years and get extraordinary mileage doing it then have extreme resale while time got here to sell it. relish your vehicle for what it relatively is and in case you opt for a quickly vehicle, get one. in case you requested approximately towing with the civic, you may get a similar reaction. that is in simple terms no longer made for it.
Q:i just installed a short ram air intake on my 98 jetta, and my vacuum house and another hose are pretty much just sitting there free. now when i hit the gas (when driving, not idle) my car makes a loud growling type of noise almost like a muscle car, is this normal? or is this because those 2 hoses are unused now? ive been told to remove one and plug the vacuum but im only good at putting things together, i dont even know which one is the vacuum hose or which one to plug or remove or what.
Just put it back the way it was. Intake kits don't do nothing for you and particularly VWs are FRAGILE so I wouldnt be surprised if your motor locked up next week from that stupid crap.
Q:I have a 1999 Ford escort zx2 and i was wondering if i should but a cold air intake on it? One of my friends says yes because it will give it like 30 more horse power and deeper sound while another one said no don‘t because it will only give you like 3-5. What should i do?
It won't give you 30 hp. The 3-5 friend is probably pretty close. If you decide to go with one you can save money by getting a dirt cheap Ebay CAI, then throwing away the crappy filter and buying a good one. There isn't really any tuning or high technology in the pipes, the filter is the important part. I found that my fuel economy was terrible after I put one in so I wouldn't do it again. Some people say the opposite though.
Q:I want to know where the air intake is for a 2001 Olds Alero Coupe. I have field mice building nests in the air box and they get stuck in the squirrel cage fan. Today will be the fourth time I‘ve had to remove the fan to get them out.I thought it was up between the hood and the windshield, those slots where the posts for the wiper arms mount. It doesn‘t look large enough for them to get in and out of there although it has been me who is getting them out!I want to do what I did for the air filter box, put a screen over the intake so they don‘t climb into the lower part of the filter box an build their nest.I guess it is the curse of living in the country.
You may have to take the wheel well panel off, and shove a screen in there. Most air boxex intakes are behind that area. Is the front passenger wheel. Hope this helps.
Q:if you could give me links to a place describing the system or some brand names that would be great!thanks!
Your Mustang HAS a cold air intake -- the engineers at Ford are perfectly capable of installing a piece of aluminum pipe if it actually increased hp, (which it doesn't), so save your money.
Q:i have a 2005 hyundai tiburon in-line4, what will a cold air intake do for my car will it make it faster or use less gas or what, and is it even worth getting one???
Typically a cold air intake is meant to give you more power. As the name implies, a cold air intake cools the air as it enters the combustion chamber. Colder air is more dense so you can get more air(oxygen) into your combustion chamber compared to if the air was warm, which means you can put more fuel to mix with the greater amount of oxygen in your chamber resulting in more power. Typically it results with a slight decrease in mileage (it uses more gas) but it also gives you more power.
Q:I bought a VW Jetta GL 2.0L in July and when I bought it I also bought a CARS warranty with it. The guy that had it before me put some vinyls on it and looks like it should be fast. I want to put a cold air intake not only for the minor HP gain, but for the deep sound of it. So I'm wandering if a neuspeed intake would void it. Thanks.
depends if cold air intake causes warranty problem, some warranty companys look for anything tovoid warranty . I have seen some oiled air filters cause damage to mass air flow sensors, not knowing vw's I dont now if your vehicle has a maf sensor. on the safe side I would leave stock air filter and housing on untill warranty expires.
