- Q: How to proceed towards shower Wall Tiles installation?
- Installing okorder /
- Q: How to choose the difference between tile types
- 4, tiles In fact, the tiles are all tiles, the surface is smooth but does not require polishing, so there is no problem of polished porosity. Tile is a reinforced polished tiles, which are made of high temperature firing. Texture is harder and more abrasive than polished tiles. There is no doubt that its price is also higher. 5, mosaic Mosaic is a special way of forming a brick, which is usually composed of ten pieces of small pieces of brick to form a relatively large brick. It is small and exquisite, colorful is widely used in indoor small area, wall and outdoor large and small wall and the ground. Mosaic is divided into ceramic mosaic, marble mosaic, glass mosaic these three types.
- Q: I have an on going problem in my kitchen. Same time tile floor was done in our home but kitchen is the problem. It was done 3-4 years ago by a contractor, however he never showed up his face to help us. He left some grout with us and said if ever the grout pops up then we can mix it in the water and fill with this mixture. The grout from the kitchen floor always comes out. Underneath, the kitchen is wood floor. The kitchen is on the second floor. Our family room is also on the second level but no problem to that floor Please help.
- When the tile was laid it didn't have enough mortar/thin set put underneath some tiles...If so then the tiles shift and the grout cracks..I am a 37 year experienced painter, but have done all phases of construction work..I was once being a helper for a regular tile man when the painting was slow, and he had a contractor that before he paidd them , walked around with a golf ball and from a little over waist high he dropped a golf ball on each and every tile..The ball will respond on a properly laid tile and bounce back with a good solid sound..when he reached one that did not bounce all the way back and made a hollow thud sound..he marked that tile and Brian had to pull it and replace it before receiving his check on a completed job.. The best tile layers will possibly have 3 or 4 in a house without enough thin set under them, but a poor tile layer can have 40 or 50 in a house improperly done..TRY THE GOLF BALL TEST yourself and see..before deciding on the points here..I bet one of the tiles on an area where the grout is coming up..will give you that hollow thud..keep in mind there are at least two tile next to the grout, if not 4 if near a corner..I just bet ...get a cheap golf ball and try this..You will see what I'm talking about..You can literaly pull any imporoperly laid tile up if careful without breaking it.. scrape the thin set off..and same for the thin set on the floor..and reset the tiles...Go through test all your tiles..then put one of them flourescent garage stickers on each improper one..then reset them
- Q: why is waterproofing done before grouting?why do we need to let the mortar/adhesive dry before grouting?
- You should use special green board for the shower. It is water resistant not water proof. This gives the best base for the tiles. You should leave the adhesive set up totally before grouting because the gases that are in the glue need a place to go. This includes thin set mortar because of the water vapor it out gases. Good luck
- Q: pattern is made up of black and white tiles. it is 7 tiles across .In the City Hall there is a pattern like this which is 149 tiles across. How many tiles all together? Please show work and how you got it.
- Consider the tiles in the pattern above, but not including the 149 tile row. That row contains 147 tiles. The next higher row contains 145 tiles and the number decreases by 2 for each successive row. The number of tiles above the 149 tile row is the sum of the odd integers from 1 to 147. N = 1 + 3 + 5 + 7 + ... + 145 + 147 N = Σ(2n-1) for n = 1 to 74 = 2Σn - Σ1 = 2(n)(n+1)/2 - n = 2(74)(75/2) - 74 = 74*75 - 74 = 74? tiles The pattern is symmetric about the 149 tile row so there are the same number of tiles below that row as there are above it. Including the 149 tile row the total number of tiles is: T = 2N + 149 = 2(74?) + 149 = 11101
- Q: im doing a science project and i want to know how to get mold or mildew to from on a tile
- Make sure that you are not using a sealed/finished tile. A terracotta or the back of a ceramic tile will work as long as you keep it damp. To start soak the tile overnight in a bucket of purified water, not from the tap. Tap water has chemicals to kill off the spores for mold/mildew. You'll need to always keep the tile damp so a warm damp place will be needed. If you know of somewhere with some mold/mildew spores growing, that'll speed things up. Otherwise, it may take weeks to grow naturally. If you do have a source for the spores, use a Q-tip swab to wipe the spores off and onto the tile surface. Good Luck
- Q: Cleaning tiles is a lot of work because they attract mildew, soap scum, etc. Now that the cleaning and scrubbing is done, what‘s next? What‘s an easy and environment-friendly way to maintain tiles? Also, if you have a suggestion for keeping a bathtub clean, that would be appreciated as well. Thanks!
- eww... think of all the soap scum and mold that will grow in the nooks and crannies of the tiles. you'll need to clean a lot to keep it under control.
- Q: Right now the wall is horrible paneling, I am drywalling the house, but I really want one wall tiled with granite tiles. Would it be better to do this on the paneling or drywall? Will it be too heavy and rip the wall down? Is there a safe way to do this?
- You could put hardybacker up right over the paneling, but personally I would remove the paneling first and then install the hardybacker. The backerboard will not absorb the moisture from the thinset or mastic like drywall and the paneling probably has a finish on it that won't bond very well. Are you meaning slate, as I have never seen anyone do a wall in granite but I suppose it could be done A slate accent wall is very reasonably priced at about 2.00 per foot, easy to do and when sealed with high gloss wet look sealer, can be quite impressive
