- Q: My wife and I are buying our first home. The current owner has new carpet in the living room, stairs and upstairs hall way. We are not going to have the funds to change the ruugs right away so we will need to paint around them. Currently the walls are white and we do not really care for plain colors, but want to stay somewhat conservative.The furniture we are chosing is probably going to be lighter fabric. Also, what wood would look best? We are changing the railing. I was thinking a lighter wood with white pickets.

- Q: I have tried rug cleaning sprays and powders and vacummed it many times. I don't know what else to do and don't want to replace my rug!
- vinager or lestoil - you can shampoo with it too - alot of those sprays do not kill enzymes

- We moved into my husband's grandparent's former home which has two rooms with shag carpeting. I have a bagless vaccum and I set it on the 2 to lowest carpet level setting in one room and the highest in the other (that shag is sooo tall!). We've had NO problems! I'd say go for it! Also, since you are a neat freak I've also shampoo'd both rooms too! And my shampooer has no carpet height setting.
- Q: I recently moved into my first apartment and its pretty nice except for the carpet in the living room. Its a kight green color and it's just full if stains. I would love to just put a new carpet in but thats not really practical because I'm just renting the place. It waould cost stanley steamers about $100 to clean it but this carpet is really old and stained. Would it even be worth that? I'm afraid I'm gonna spend the money and it's still gonna look gross
- As a professional carpet cleaner this comes up a lot. Our policy is we will try a spot/stain or two (usually the worst) to give you an idea of what the carpet will turn out like. If you don't think it will turn out the way you like that's it we leave. No reputable carpet cleaner will guarantee a spot or stain will come out until they try, because they can't tell for sure until they try. A carpet cleaner can tell if some stains are likely to come out but cannot guarantee it. As an incentive to get your lanlord to pay for the carpet cleaning you can point out carpet cleaning is tax deductable for a landlord.(which is why mony landlords ask you for the reciept, for their files of course, if you get the carpets clean) but thats another story

- There are lots of carpet cleaners that will get the stain out, but the one that I can always rely on is the Rug Doctor Carpet Cleaner. It's like a vacuum that sucks up the stains! And not only can you use it on the mustard stain, but you can use it on your whole carpet. It's probably your only hope right now, because mustard dyes carpet for good. - Synthetics like nylon and polyester do not shed. If you look for a rug or carpet that has a long period of wear warranty, that is likely the kind that doesn't shed. That type of rug may have other issues, like less resiliency, but if shedding is the concern, go for synthetic.

- There are professional rug cleaners almost anywhere. The best rug cleaners use a long conveyor belt like thing that takes the rug, vacuums it then shoots it with high pressure water and soap mixture while continually vacuuming it back out. The rug is then hung to air dry and is brushed and rolled up.
- Q: Alright.. so i need to kill fleas that MAY be in my carpet. I havn't seen any hop on me but my kitten has got fleas. I have a 12 month old son also.. that crawls on the carpet and puts anything in sight in his mouth, including his hands that obviously touch the carpet. I am sure SOMEONE has had this conundrum at some point... I am hoping some one can help me with this. What i have done so far, i've washed my precious with baby shampoo and combed the rest out... and so far i haven't seen her itch or any live fleas (she's white so they are evident) but i am sure they have gotten in my carpet in my living room. anything NATURAL or CHEMICAL that is toxic for my cat or baby is out of the question.. thanks for reading. i hope you can help!! :)
- Rigorous vacuuming will be the best approach. Things that may be non-toxic to your baby are not going to be good for your kitten. For instance, boric acid is considered a non-toxic approach, but if it gets on your kitten's paws, and your kitten washes its paws (which it will do), it is toxic. But you can get some boric acid or diatomaceous earth, and suck some up the vacuum after you clean. That will work on any fleas in the bag that may have survived the trip through the vacuum.
- Q: I need to replace my 45 year old carpet. It is showing it's age. But one thing that has never been done is having it re stretched. Not one wrinkle. It lays as flat and tight as the day it was put in. So this beings up the question. quot;Should a properly installed wall to wall carpet ever need to be re stretched?quot; I have noticed many carpets in newer homes that are all wrinkled. And many people I've talked with after installing carpet need to have it stretched again,sometimes more then twice. Is this an inherent problem with what the carpets are made of now days? By the way my carpet is wool.
- As your 1 st poster stated, even the best of carpet or the best of installed carpet could possible need a restretch. Its rare but it does happen.
