Q: Wiring
3 okorder /
Q: I moved into a home with pre-wired speakers. There is a bundle of speaker wire coming out of the wall. Each wire has 4 colors of other wire coming out of it. There are a total of 7 main wires (with four wires each) and a total of 9 speakers.
i had a cable like that, 4 wire but two clamps on speaker. what i did was have the red and black wire.. and then just connect another wire to that, making sure you connect the same wire on both ends.. eg: red with green and black with blue... color varies.. but you get the point..
Q: How is commercial wiring differ from residental wiring in design, operation and etc?
Higher voltages, more complex control systems and equipment, three phase rather than single phase power and wiring, most wiring in conduit rather than just jacketed cables, different types of lighting, different building codes, load calculations and safety standards. There are way too many differences to list here. That's like asking how a jet airplane is different from a car. Can't be answered simply. It requires special training -- I did my apprenticeship in commercial and industrial electrical work and it is far different from residential wiring.
Q: i think i messed up the wiring to my headunit. its not the wiring going into the headunit, there is no power from the wires. how much should it cost to get the wires checked out and fixed somewhere?
If your talking about the power wire the feeds the radio on the eclipse then you need to check both fuses. On the eclipse they put an in line fuse before the fuse box and one at the fuse box and either one could be blown. If neither one is blown then you do have a break in the wire. does not half to be cut but it can be an internal break. If i was you and the fuses are not blown i would run your own wire from the battery with an in line fuse to your radio. This happened to me so that's how i know about the two fuses. hope this helps.
Q: I bought Nexxtech Evolution series 16 gauge 30' wire to be able to bring my rear speakers farther back in my room. I have an Altec Lansing 5.1 speaker system with remote and all the speakers connect to the back of the sub. (front are red wire, center is blue, and rear is gray) they are all have the black wire and the colored wire. The wire I just bought are brown, and have a stripe of gray on the second wire (polarized wires) but the ones I bought are much thicker wire... will it still work to just strip/twist/tape the wires to extend the rear speakers? or did I buy the wrong wire? and also, how do I know which to twist with which? (the ones I bought aren't really that clear on which is which... which end is positive and which is negative).Answer quickly please!
You are going to strip twist the wires together to make it longer? Just be really careful that the wires don't touch and short, that can blow out the reciever. It would be best to get some heat shrink tubing to cover the wires and then you could use a blow dryer to apply heat. This makes a tight secure connection. I think Radio Shack sells it. As to which wire is - and * you can connect speakers either way and it won't damage them. So why do speakers have red and black connectors? Well to get the best sound they should be in phase. To show what I mean take a flashlight battery and connect it to a speaker. If you connect it one way you'll see the speaker cone push out, reverse the battery and speaker cone will pull in. So what you want is all speakers wired the same way for the best sound.
Q: ok so i have 3 questions.i have an oldsmobile cuttlas supreme and i have a 0 gauge power wire that is 17 feet is that long enough???? and i have 0 gauge ground that is 17 feet is that long enough....and about the speaker wire..i have 8 gauge speaker wire that is 25 feet..is this a good setup.make sure u answer all these questions please thank you..
the 17 ft of power wire is going to be fine. Just make sure you install an inline fuse by the battery. The 17ft of ground wire is a little bit too much, but you can cut that down. Make sure you ground the amp as close as possible so the voltage drop is minimal. The 8 guage speaker wire is way too high a gauge for speaker wire. You would be fine with 12, 14, or 16 gauge. The length needed depends on what speakers you plan to wire up. If its just subs then I would say thats more than enough. If you're powering components, you will need much more, probable close to 100. Overall it should be a good setup though.
Q: I need to wire a single 120v outlet from the 240v volt wire I use on my compressor. Im installing a 120v electric automatic drain valve on my large shop air compressor. The compressor is wired up with SJ00W 10-AWG, 4-wire power cable (red, green, black white wires). and is rated at 240v @ 15-amp(compressor not wire). The drain valve uses a normal house hold current wiring config. (black, white and open copper)The 240v power supply is the only supply I have near by, (two of them actually) Or I would just wire the automatic valve off an outlet and call it a day. So How do I wire a 120v 3-wire set up from the 240v 4-wire supply? Thanks
I swear these people on here are crazy sometimes. People he was never asking how to wire e recepticale. He is asking how to take a four wire 240vac connection to a 3 wire 120vac connection. He is wiring it to a auto drain valve that has a termination box on the side of it or a pecker head as we used to call it. Here is how to do it. Go to your breaker panel determine wick breaker is feeding the cable/wire your wanting to use. Once you have done this remove the breaker panel cover. Then remove the wires from the breaker. These should be the red and black wires. Now remove the two pole breaker and replace it with two single pole breakers rated at 20 amps. Using black electrical tape, tape the end of the red wire up and secure it inside the breaker panel so that it is out of the way. Now land the black wire to one of the breakers you just installed. The second breaker will not have anything wired to it, it is a spare to be used later but must be installed to cover the hole left by the two pole breaker. Label you panel to indicate the auto drain valve and the spare breaker you have just installed. Now at the auto drain valve the black will be the hot/L1 white is neutral/L2 and the green is ground. The red can be taped up and secured out of the way or cut back and taped up if you don't think you will need it in the future.
Q: For my braces, the top wire where my two front teeth are, I can push the wire and it sort of bend. I don't know if this is normal or not. Can someone tell me?
Just ask your dentist. have your mom call and ask.
Q: i have a 98 ford taurus... can anyone give me a diagram of the wires that come off the radio, like wut colors r which speakers. i need to knw so i can wire it my cd player cuz i cant get a wire harness around here..
Well for starters the wires that are at the radio are not the speaker wire, they are power, ground and data wires. The speaker wires are back at the factory tuner box in the drivers rear of the trunk behind the carpet. The tuner box is a silver box that is mounted to the rear drivers fender well and has the input and output for your speaker wires as well as your antenna. metra electronics makes a harness that plugs into the factory plug and that you have to run from the rear of the car up to the dash to put in an aftermarket radio. this harness also includes the antenna wire with the adapter for the factory antenna end. You also need to get a dash kit that will replace that factory dash piece so it will accommodate the new radio. It is a metra part number 99-5715. Hope this helps
Q: i already tried wiring this light, but it didn't work. I always thought black wire to black, white to white and ground to ground. i connected the light fixture black wire to the three black wires (as shown in image) and the light fixture white wire to the three white wires, and connected ground wires together.when i flipped on the breaker, the light came on with the switch on off and the breaker tripped. i'm assuming this is wrong and i provided an image as i see in my ceiling mount. Can somebody kindly direct me how to properly connect the light fixture to these wires. thanks!
This should have worked. Any chance you have one of the black wires touching the side of the box or one of the white or ground wires? If the fixture that was removed worked before the new one should work now. Also check that one of the screws holding the fixture didn't touch one of the black wires when you tightened it. .
