Q: I have a Chinese rug and the pile is flat. Is there any way I can improve it.
MANY years ago I worked for Harrahs Hotel/Casino WHEN the carpet went FLAT they had us RAKE the carpet with a leave rake. Sounds weird but it works. I have always vaccumed then RAKED mine with a plastic rake I keep for INhouse only use.
Q: The carpet is the basic (probably commercial) kind.
Probably not a good idea. Physically it can be done, but I don't think you would be happy w/ the results and it would most likely crack. Carpet comes up very easily, why bother?
Q: i wana get a russian tortoise can i keep it on carpet in its tort table.
yes carpet is fine. you may also want to put some sand at one end of his tort area. another great idea that my son did with his russians was put a tropical plant in the tort area with him to make him feel more 'secure'
Q: I am redoing a room. Should it be painted before new carpeting? I want the baseboards nicely painted. Just not sure what should be done first.
Paint Or New Carpet First
Q: They say quot;dry clean onlyquot; but I have been told that this is not the case. Does anybody know if a Rug Dr will work? They are camel colored.
I sure would NOT use a Rug Doctor to clean my suede! The reason it says to dry clean is because when you wet suede you will get water marks. Ever wear suede shoes in the rain? What you need to do if you want to spot clean them yourself is to get a suede cleaner at the shoe repair. It is formulated so that you will not shrink or water stain the suede. You also can spot treat very small areas or stains with white vinegar. But be very careful, because the couches are so light colored, test an inconspicious area (like the inside of a seam) first if you use the vinegar to determine whether it darkens the suede. I absolutely have ruined suede by cleaning it improperly.
Q: Are rugs supposed to more or less engulf a room and be under the legs of your furniture (in our case that would be the 8X10), or are they used more as accents rugs in front of couches and chairs, not actually touching the furniture but filling the empty space....hence the 5X8?Or are there no rules and anything goes in the world of rugs? Also, any suggestions for selecting a pattern are welcome. Our chairs are neutral, but the couch has a strong leaf with some floral pattern to it, and in addition to struggling with size and colors to match it, we're also having problems with pattern on pattern. I suppose the safest thing to do would be just to forget rugs, since we seem to be challenged in this area - but the floor desperately needs something and the room needs a punch of color to balance it. Thanks for your help!
The rugs should be under the legs of accent pieces like kitchen tables or accent-end table. I'm not sure if the rule extends to the larger pieces.
Q: its brand new.. but it smells awful.. like a burnt popcorn/broken vacuum smell.i tried to let it air out for days .. not working.. and its too heavy to bring otuside.. its very light colored.. is it okay to ripe it down with soap and water and a rag?? will the soap do anything to the rug?and is there a better option? to wash it with
I don't think it will help, and it shouldn't hurt. Have you tried FeBreeze? and an open window with a fan in front exhausting the smell?
Q: Tattoo Ink out of carpet??How can I get Blue tattoo ink out of a green carpet and a grey carpet??
Use hairspray but the kind in an aresol can and dab don't rub, keep using fresh paper towel, I've gotten pen and grease out of coats, carpet etc with it but the trick it to dab and keep using fresh paper towel. Also when you get to just a bit left scrub it with TSP Tri Sodium Phosphate worked for me with chinese red candle spill on my beige carpet, it was aa wool carpet worked really well, with candle paper towel and an iron, ink just paper towel and aresol hairspray. Good luck.
Q: we have some stains on the carpet and wanted to now if we could use zout on the carpets????????
. Can Zout? stain remover be used on carpet or upholstery? A. We do not suggest using Zout? on upholstery or carpet because, as a super concentrated surfactant based product, it needs to rinse thoroughly. When not rinsed properly, soap will collect dirt. If Zout? has been used on upholstery or carpet, rinse until no soapsuds appear using a wet/dry vacuum or a carpet/upholstery cleaning machine. So that's a no.
Q: My family room carpet is gross and my husband is too cheap to buy hardwood, he says quot;its finequot;...ive bleached carpet before by mixing with water and using my pool scrub pole, it helps or should i rip it up? i rather walk on concrete than this carpet !
I work in flooring, and can tell you from vast experience that a carpet is a giant crud collector that lives on your floor. Bleaching carpet won't work and will damage the carpet (not that it sounds like that matters). If it were me, I'd tear out the carpet and pad. There will be tack strips (they hold the edges of the carpet in place) around the edges of the room. If you plan to recarpet, you could leave those, I would NEVER want to live with carpet again so I'd rip those out too. If you have a carpet company install carpet later, they'll have to put tack strips down again, but it doesn't cost much. Tack strips have very sharp points, so be careful working around them and be sure pets and kids can't hurt themselves on them. To pull up the carpet, grab a corner or edge with piers and pull straight up. This pulls the carpet off the tack. It's easier to handle demoed carpet if you use a contractor knife with a brand new blade to cut it into strips 3-6 feet wide, then roll it up and removed the rolls. You'll be really grossed out by all the crud in and under the carpet. A less expensive option than hardwood would be fiberglass core vinyl, which lays naturally flat and in heavier grades can be simply laid on the floor. Look for Flooring America's Naturcor Natural Grandeur line, very heavy duty and good looking. Not like normal, traditional vinyl, impervious to moisture, great surface for kids and pets.
