- with wool rugs this is very common. When they make the rug lots of little pieces of loose wool get into the air and end up in the carpet itself. Its not a problem, vacuum lots, use a vacuum with a power head.

- you over wet it the carpet , if the weather is humid the carpet will retain a wet dog smell , next time that you intend to shampoo the carpet make sure that you don't over soak it and that you shampoo it on a dry day and yes keep those windows open , in the mean time to solve the problem spray the carpet with Lysol to neutralize the smell and keep the windows opened on a nice breezy day, next month re shampoo the carpet giving it a pre treatment of white vinegar before shampooing again but this time don't over wet it .

- I think it's mainly personal preference. Carpeting does make the floor warmer---and is much softer on the feet. It comes in a rainbow of hues so it can be utilized to co-ordinate with your decorating scheme. I prefer carpeting because of these reasons but mainly because it is much easier to maintain than hardwood floors. Spills must be wiped up immediately to prevent permanent spots and warping at the seams of hardwood floors. It is much simpler in my estimation to run a sweeper and/or carpet shampooer than to re-finish and buff wooden floors.
