Q:Want to know the floor area and the base line conversion, thank you
There is an area to know the length and width of the room. You know how many skirting lines are needed.
Q:I bought a house (2900 SF) with an open floor plan design in the main living areas and a 450SF dance floor with a 14' vaulted ceiling that adjoins the main living room.I installed 24 x 24 marble tiles in the dance area and also put in a Wurlitzer full sized commercial Juke Box and a modern round table and bar stool set.Have a motorized 18" mirrored disco ball with the colored mini spot lights and a couple of black lights.Question is: should I go all out and put in the retro cafe booths and table, vintage coke machine, and a vintage pin-ball machine or should I leave it as an open dance floor?
That really depends on your lifestyle. Will you use the dance floor more than you would the pin-ball machine, the booths? I've done homes with dance floors for people who have ballroom, line dancing and salsa as a hobby and they constantly use their floors. But, I've had other clients who thought it would be nice to have a dance floor installed only to find that they didn't entertain much that way. Now in one home, we left the dance floor but added french bistro cafe tables and chairs that could be moved when they wanted to use the floor to dance. In the end, the decision should be based on your lifestyle and what in the end will be an extension of it.
Q:My house was built 3 years ago and the second floor squeaks and gives when walked on. I am not talking about one area but many many areas.
Floor joists if properly sized and spaced should not noticeable deflect when walked on and squeaking could result. Squeaking could also occur from movement of floor boards across the joists, if not nailed securely or if the spacing between joists are too great. Normally a bedroom floor would be designed for a live load of about 30 lb./s.f. The size of joists and their spacing would depend on their unsupported span.
Q:I put in ceramic tiles on my first floor like 800 sq feet of it .. anyways i have 2 kids and 2 dogs i was wondering about buying a floor scrubber like one that scrubs and picks up the water afterwards because mopping just doesnt cut it.. what brands do you use or what advice would you give for cleaning these floors other than mopping them every other day!! thanks!!
I would suggest preventing the dirty floor...less time spent washing. Perhaps you're already doing the following, but if not, these are things that helped me... When our dogs come in, and if it's been wet out, we have an old towel to dry off their feet. If there feet are muddy, we have a warm wet rag to clean off the mud, and then we dry their feet. We have the towel and/or rag waiting at the front door. The kids...eat only at the table. Spills made by anyone are wiped up immediately. No shoes in the house. Vacuum the floors every/every other day. I wash my floors every 4-7 days. I wash all my floors on my hands and knees with a rag, and liquid cleaner, added to hot water. This is the the best way to get your floors clean. Good luck to you!
Q:Real hardwood flooring or laminate? Why?We bought real hardwood and I'm starting to think it may have been a bad choice because I'm worried about our furniture moving and scratching it.
Real wood will keep a better value in the long run for the house. Some better quality laminates have their place but real wood is better over all. A few tips to help your floors. Add rugs and furniture leg protectors to help keep the wood from getting scratched up. Sweep regularly and with a good vacuum. Use a dust mop with a light spray cleaner. Something as simple as white vinegar and water with the dust mop. Wear something other than shoes when possible, especially tennis shoes that trap stones in the treads. And diluted vinegar and water makes an excellent cleaner. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar.GL
Q:How do you remove excess vinyl flooring glue from the walking surface of a newly installed floor?
You could try scraping it off with a scotch brite pad and some water. You could try a razor blade but try it without cutting the floor. Otherwise, you could try a solvent or mastic / glue removal. If it's fresh vinyl, you could easily mark up the vinyl. Make sure it's completely dry before removing the excess so you don't ruin it. You could get the glue remover at Home Depot, Lowes or Ace Hardware store. You could also try the link below. Hope this helps. Good Luck.
Q:The bathroom is about 6inches off from one end of the floor to the other. And that is a 4ft span. The tub is at the level end which is the lowest part of the floor. We want to leave the tub and build up the floor around it. What is the best and fastest way to do that ourselves? Our kitchen is also unlevel. The floor slants to one corner. It may be about 3 inches off level. We need to level out both floors, but have no idea how.
First, if you have a crawl space, you may want to crawl under your house and see if any of the foundation under your house is sinking. If it is, then you have a bigger problem on your hands. If the foundation isn't sinking, then you can take up the sub-flooring and nail/bolt on floor joists onto the existing floor joists to make the floor level. As long as you nail/bolt the floor joists on the same side, the spacing should remain the same. Then just put down a new sub floor with screws or with ring shanked nails. I prefer to use screws over nails. If you add on top of the existing floor, then you may have problems at the doorway. You could put down shims then secure the new flooring to the old sub flooring, but that is not a really good way to do things.
Q:What is the thickness of the anti-skid tiles?
Whether the non-slip and thickness of the brick does not matter, basically the thickness of the floor tile are the same specifications, and some businesses sell small floor tiles are cut with their own brick into a small brick, thick tube bile duct Slightly thicker.
Q:I am a dancer 8 years,I am redoing my and putting in floor that can be danced on but I an not sure what would be the best flooring. I want something simple since its my bedroom but I want a nice floor .
I like hardwood floors.
Q:ok so my hubby and i just bought a 6 bd 2 bath house.. only problem is the down stairs bathroom floor looked as if the sub floor was bad right by the bathtub well hubby and i pulled up all the sub floor.. well the joist i think it is called there is 3 of them going across one of them when i step on it moves just a tiny bit(im 133 lbs) the 2nd one moves up and down when i step on it and has a split in the middle the 3rd one where the bath tub was is the worse and its soft feeling on the top and feels like it could break.. i was told by a repair man that to fix this problem it would cost WELL over 1,000.. i pulled up the other sub floor in the laundry room that is right next to the bathroom and only separated by a "wall" more like paneling and them joist seem to be fine(no splits, doest move much at all)what should i do and can this be fixed for less the 1,000??thanks
