- Q: I am looking at a home from 1939. i know asbestos was used from like the1970's back very often.i want to lay down different flooring in the kitchen,however i do now want to mess with the removal of the crap(asbestos)is there a way to put flooring down without having to get all this professional removal done. and no i don't want to mess with doing it myself either.

You can also have the flooring checked for asbestos content would should cost between $75 and $100 from any local asbestos abatement company. They would require a small piece of the existing flooring to examine.

- Laminate floors are not actually wood. Engineered floors have a thin layer of wood on top. Hardwood floors are all wood. Laminate floors are only a picture of wood on top of a substrate. That substrate is usually something called MDF. MDF will swell when it gets wet. This is likely your problem. There is no repair except for replacing those sections. Tongue and groove laminate is glued together making this almost impossible. If you had hardwood floors they could be sanded and refinished. If you have engineered floors they might, or might not be able to be refinished, depending on the thickness of the veneer on top. Sorry for the bad news.

- Since it glued to the floor as you say,it has to be a wood flooring. Minor scratches can be touched up with a stain or a touch up pencil. You may have to do some urethane but thats hard to do in small spot and have to look good. Pergo is more into the floating floor ( laminates) line of flooring. If it is a laminate, then there is nothing that can be done to hide scratches. Chair leg protectors and theres several types are good or a area rug to protect the the floor. - Depending on how deep the scratch is. If it is just a surface scratch, use a little Old English furniture polish on it. Make sure you match the stain of the flooring. If deeper, you can place a hot, wet cloth over the scratch and try to raise the wood grain. If not sure about doingit yourself, check the yellow pages for flooring or furniture restoration experts.
- Q: Will water hurt Pargo flooring
- water wont necissarily ruin your pergo but if you spill something wipe it up immediately because its not good for the floor. Also if you thinking of installing in your kitchen maybe vinyl may work better. Check out the links I inserted and then make your decision i could be way off!
