Q: I purchase wood flooring as an upgrade in my new home. Just found out that this is engineered wood is this the same?: The engineered flooring is usually made of 3 layers. The top layer is the actual hard wood facing you will leave exposed, it is usually oak or some other type of desireable hardwood which stains well. The next two layers is usually poplar ( a softer hardwood which doesn't stain well). Its construction is similiar to plywood but the engineered floor is more robust. It is good to use in situations such as uneven subfloors. You should be able to sand and refinsh the engineered floor once or twice compared to 5 or 10 for solid hardwood but seeing as this is usually only done ever 10 years or so its not a big deal.

Yes, but in all the details you gave, you did not mention if you are gluing or nailing. If gluing, you will need to give it at least a day to dry hard before moving back onto it. Also have some good heavy cardboard to roll the fridge onto, to save the floor.

Q: hi,we bought this very nice red oak wood flooring. I think its some kind of engineered flooring. Anyway my question is do I need a moister barrier in my 2nd story rooms? The house was built in 2004 ( in case that matters) I know I have to put a foam down to reduce the noise but I don't think that the 2nd story has any moister.Oh by the way we are in south California so it is warm and dry most of the year.Thanks for all you help: The first guy is correct and to answer your last question, don't use the carpet foam as it may be to thick and spongy. Go with the cheap thin foam they sell. I might add that if your worried at all about a moisture barrier, then lay some 3 mil plastic sheeting down first, staple it tight in the corners, then put your thin foam layer down. For about an additional 20 bucks or so for a roll of sheeting your worries are over regardless if it was required or not. It can't hurt anything in other words.

Q: We are in the process of buying hardwood flooring and wow it's not easy! We found a beautiful Brazilian Cherry 1/16 x 4 3/4 but were finding through our research it gets as many good reviews as it does horrible ones. Anyone have any personal experience with this brand flooring and it's quality? How is it as far as scratching and dents? We have a 2 year old who loves to throw things so it needs to be durable. Also do we have to worry about alot of warping with the brand? Again does anyone have any personal experience? Do you have any brands you definitely would recommend? Again it has to be floating to be put on cement flooring. Thanks!: If the reviews are good and horrible then stay away. It means the problems that people have are major when there are ones.

Q: This has an engineered backing with real oak top about 1/4 thick.: I've sanded dozens and dozens of them, but I've been a wood flooring contractor for a very long time. 1/4 inch of real oak is very comprarable to a solid oak floor. You can only sand 5/16 off of those before you reach the tongue/groove. Good Luck
