- Q: I purchase wood flooring as an upgrade in my new home. Just found out that this is engineered wood is this the same?
- The engineered flooring is usually made of 3 layers. The top layer is the actual hard wood facing you will leave exposed, it is usually oak or some other type of desireable hardwood which stains well. The next two layers is usually poplar ( a softer hardwood which doesn't stain well). Its construction is similiar to plywood but the engineered floor is more robust. It is good to use in situations such as uneven subfloors. You should be able to sand and refinsh the engineered floor once or twice compared to 5 or 10 for solid hardwood but seeing as this is usually only done ever 10 years or so its not a big deal.
- Q: I have what people call a great room. Meaning you can sit in my living room and see the kitchen and laundry room...it is basically all one room, a doorway divides the kitchen from the laundry area, and everything else is open. So can I move my fridge and stove, lay the flooring, and then put it right back, all the while working out towards the living room? Then move living room furniture into already laid dining room, pull up carpet, lay flooring, and then put the furniture back? Or do I need to clean out this WHOLE area and put down the whole floor and then move everything back in?
- Yes it can be done that way but you also have to consider the base and are you going to do a shoe molding? And should you glue the engineered floor down you ll have to wait the minimum of 24 hrs . Stapling it down, it isn t a problem.. Doing a laminate, it isn t a problem either you just have to deal with replacing the base or putting a shoe molding , which ever way you decide. Much easier if you can empty the room(s) completely and work on them and then put back together. But if the rooms are separate enough as where you can put the base or shoe back or at least partially, you can do it. One poster suggested putting cardboard down to roll your refridge back.. NO use a luan ply or rent a special mover that picks up the whole unit and sets it in place. Wheels can and do telescope through card board and can mar wood. ( voice of experience ). - Q: Can anyone tell me the best quality engineered hardwood flooring. We have two energetic dogs who wrestle a lot. If you have any experience please respond. Thank you
- Your aluminum oxide finish ( available on most prefinished wood now )is one of the tougher coats now .. I haven t heard of many scratching complaints. Keeping their nails trimmed is always a big help. GL
- Q: How to maintain composite wood floor
- 2, daily use should pay attention to avoid the sharp metal, glass tiles, spikes and hard thing is scratch the floor; do not make contact with the fire floor or placed directly on the floor of electrical power; the prohibition of placing strong acid and alkaline substances on the floor; the absolute prohibition of long time flooding.
- Q: what is the hardest engineered hardwood floor?
- Hi, You need to take a look at the Janka hardness scale to see which is the hardest. Ebony is one of the hardest but will be expensive. You need to also take a look at plank construction and finish as to durability of a hardwood. Buy from a quality company that has a good reputation. Mirage engineered floors has won a survey by retailers for quality for the fourth time. They are a quality engineered product that has a wear layer that is equal to 3/4 solid wood and can be sanded 3-5 times during its life. Bruce is another name that is highly recommended. Hope this helps.
- Q: I am thinking about putting down about 500 sq ft of Engineered Wood Flooring instead of Laminate. To keep it quiet for the neighbors below, I am thinking about using a cork underlayment. Since this install will be on the 2nd floor, do I still need to use a moisture barrier under the cork? Also, do I have to glue the cork down? I would rather not- the floor might be gypcrete which might not like glue. I am planning to float the floor using a click lock system. This is my first time so any other suggestions would be appreciated e.g., type of species to use, tips, etc.
- You will not need to add a moisture barrier. You do not need to glue down the underlayment or flooring on a floating floor. You will need to tape down the underlayment. Buying good underlayment will make the floor quieter for the people on the first floor and make the feel of the floor softer for you. Good luck putting in the floor. I have installed several. Make sure you buy the install tools. They are cheap and will make the installation smoother.
- Q: Multi tier solid wood flooring how much money a square
- How to use simple method to examine aggrandizement floor to decorate a layer to be good or bad? Imported superior decorative layer waterproof and moisture-proof, anti ultraviolet radiation, non fading, anti-static, natural color texture. Compared with the naked eye observation, it should be pure color, color is positive, clear grain, scar section realistic, natural and generous, strong sense of solid wood. 5, identify the pros and cons of the floor to the ten look at whether it belongs to the store sales. There is no authorization, there is no authoritative certificate issued by the state departments of the product certificate and mark of international quality certification and China environment; there is no inspection report (some test report is not real, to see the inspection report of the supervision and inspection checks, whether original or daily). If not, may be of low quality Liepin floor
- Q: I'd especially appreciate answers from people who have done this and can tell me of any potential benefits/pitfalls.
- By engineered do you mean, not real wood such as laminate? I have laminate wood flooring in my kitchen and real oak hard wood floors in the rest of my home and the kitchen floors are much easier to maintain, pricey, but well worth it!! Mine are also put down over laminate and are a floating floor wide planks w/ an aged effect. The great thins is IF damage ever occurs to a certain piece, it can be removed and another one put down in its place. The brand is Alloc
- Q: Want to decorate the home, I heard that the solid wood floor care convenience, composite floor to play regular wax like. But it is said that the solid wood floor for a long time there will be a gap, and step up will quack creak. Want to know this is not the case, by the way, I recommend what to buy the floor of the brand, thank you ~ ~ ~
- If it is for the sake of health, use solid wood flooringAs for what to do, regardless of solid wood or composite floor, it is necessary to wax once a half year. In order to protect the floor well. If the wax hit too often or too little, are not good for the floor
- Q: floating floor I've heard of is always in reference to laminate. Why couldn't a person float an engineered wood floor?
- As you see some engineered woods have a locking system to make it a floating floor. You can also take a standard engineered floor and make it a floating floor by using a special ( note special ) wood glue and using it on the groove side and creating your own floating floor. Basically like the original laminates that you glued together. Why any one would do it this way when there is so many regular engineered floors that now lock. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
