- Q: I purchase wood flooring as an upgrade in my new home. Just found out that this is engineered wood is this the same?
- You'll have to read the contract. It should specify. To me, engineered floors are not hardwood floors. Hardwood floors are made of hardwood, period. An engineered floor will not last as long.
- Q: We bought a house with engineered oak hardwood floors that look to be 3mm thick. We're trying to determine if we can refinish them or if we just need to replace them, but we're not sure how to tell if they have am aluminum oxide finish. Is there a way to tell without knowing the manufacturer or any other related info?
- Not so much, no. There's no test that you can do at home that can tell you if these engineered floors have an aluminum oxide finish or another type of modern finish. But unfortunately, chances are it's AO. Most engineered floors, especially those that aren't super expensive (so floors bought through THD and etc.) are AO.
- Q: My family's solid wood floor scratch how to do?
- You can scratch marks: scratches in painted brown or light colored leather leather oil, oil and paint on the door must be color light similar, with a dry cloth and rub along the grain, until the color of wood covered deep scratches, and waxing and polishing.
- Q: I dont have a way to measure the thickness of the top layer but can you tell from this picture? and can this be sanded? My dogs have destroyed the surface and I'd like to refinish it when I put the house up for sale.
- that is laminate (plastic) flooring, not hardwood and cannot be refinished
- Q: My kitchen has an engineered wood floor that needs to be replaced. It was is glued to my concrete subfloor. There is no underlayment -- it's just glued to the subfloor. From repairing the floor I know that when you remove the planks, chunks (not huge, but still very noticeable) of the subfloor come up with the planks due to the glue, leaving the floor unlevel and with varying texture. I don't want to go through the hassle and mess of having someone remove the wood floor, and then sand down and/or use a self-leveling material on the subfloor before putting a new floor down. I'm thinking that the existing floor is already a smooth surface. Can I just put a new floor over it? To avoid removing the existing floor I'm happy to put down any type of new floor that will work (linoleum, laminate, wood, tile). Please help! Thanks
- Short answer- Yes, you can. But, be aware of potential problems that can come later. You will have an organic material under the floor cut off from being able to breath- that basically means the surface you put over it will cut it off from being able to dry out if it get wet. If it gets wet, it will mildew - rot, and stink something awful. also, that old floor will have voids that you can not get to, making it a perfect habitat for insects. Although right now you are not able to actually, physically get under the old floor, if you or an expert applicator had to get to insect infestations, it is much more possible than if the old floor were covered. Covering it makes it less accessible and much more inviting to infestations. Basically, in construction, it is never a good idea to cover old material with new. A proper fix is to chip it out, level the floor correctly and lay down the new covering. I understand the prohibitive expense of this. But, imagine what you'll pay later with an improper job on top of what you will eventually have to do anyway?
- Q: Used an Ofla blade to cut underlayment ontop of the new engineered hard wood i just layed down last week. (i know stupid move, i know) Is there anyway to get rid of the cut mark? i just cut into the top layer of finish so its just showing a white line. It's about 4 ft long, super thin, but you can defiantly notice a thin white line. Any home remedies or stuff i could ask for at my local store?
- Well the bad thing about engineered hardwood flooring is that the finish layer is extremely thin veneer, if it is veneer. So of these flooring products have a vinyl surface of sorts similar to contact paper and just as thin. You can aesthetically repair the surface using a wipe stain process you can't truly repair the scratch but you can make it blend in and with a few coats of water based polyurethane applied with a q tip and then immediately wiped so that you don't have a build up you can seal the repair. Be careful when you do this so as to not soak the area this will cause it to swell and lift the surface.
- Q: My husband and I installed an engineered wood floor in our basement a year ago - about 1100 sq. ft. Within a month we noticed 3 spots that give or make a sticking sound when you walk over them. Obviously, the adhesive didn't take or it was partially dried when we laid that portion of the floor (hey, that's what no experience gets you ; ) Water and humidity are not a problem in this basement, concrete sub-floor has cured for 15 years prior to installation and it is level. One suggestion was to drill a small hole and use a hypodermic type needle to inject more adhesive under the floor and then weigh the spot down for it to adhere. Any other suggestions that don't include ripping the floor up? Or any suggestions on where to buy the hypo-glue tool?
- you know what to do just drill the hole that's how we do it to flooring expert @ city floor's Houston, TX
- Q: What is the Chinese style solid wood floor
- Solid wood flooring materials are disc beans, longan, two wing bean, balsam, oak, birch, jade sandalwood, teak, elm, pineapple etc..
- Q: Solid wood flooring installation needs a wooden keel, according to the traditional method, the fixed wooden keel to hammer drilling, a cork in the drilled holes, and nail fixed wooden keel, the biggest drawback of this method is the hammer drilling, hit the cement floor of the pipes and wires. If there is, and can be mixed with cement, there is an advantage of building rubber powder, that is, in the case of large errors in the floor, wooden keel can be mixed with cement on the leveling. Thank you for your help.
- Make the floor clean and dry, and brushing two times waterproof coating;(2) according to the ground line, the frame is directly mounted on the wood frame. The square section of the wood frame body is 3Omm '40mm' or 4Omm '50mm, and the connection mode is a half groove button joint, and the nail joint is coated with a nail. After the impact drill bore holes in the wood frame and the ground, with the bolt fixed on the ground, and check whether the framework to maintain the level of.
