- Cassy, if you want new carpet then you will have to go to a carpet store. Some of the larger companies have end of line run out sales for carpets that they are replacing with a new pattern or colour so it's always worth asking, you might get last years carpet at a bargain. You could also look at some auction houses for carpet bargains. If you are okay with second hand carpet then have a look at some of the trader newspapers, we have trading post here in Melbourne and they are online too, Australia wide I think on the net. Some people will sell their old carpet when replacing it so check around. Also, you could contact some carpet installers because they are always ripping out old carpet when laying down new stuff. Ask them what they do with the carpet they are getting rid of. They might onsell it somewhere if it's in good shape. You can always jump on line and google 'second hand carpet'. I got a few hits when I did this so you might find something in your area.

- We have a townhouse and 2 dogs who go out alot so we have similar problems. We have the Bissel proheat steamer and we like it. The first time you use it is amazing. Make sure that you vacuum really well beforehand. We use ours about every 6 weeks and does make a huge difference. It will not get everysingle stain out. But, it will pick up all the water/soap that it puts down if you do the pick up pass very soon after you do the put down pass. So do smaller (like a 3ft x 6ft section) at a time instead of putting down water and soap over the whole room and then trying to pick up the solution. You can always go back over an area if you want.

- Rent a Carpet Steamer and pour in two cups of White Vinegar into very hot water in the detergent and water tank, do not add any carpet shampoo wash your carpeted area with the vinegar and hot water only, make sure to extract as much water as you can so that the carpet is not soaking wet, in turn vinegar will help repel the dirt better than if you used carpet shampoo as carpet shampoos can attract the dirt Vinegar will also deodorize and brighten the carpet and stop static electricity Vinegar is safe to use on carpets and is recommended by many who use this method of cleaning Good Luck !

If your carpet was less than ?7.00 sqm, the possibility is that it has no stain free warranty. Ask your retailer about the carpet you bought, say your not happy with how dirty it has got in so little time. Ask them about the warranty. If the carpet has worn too fast, whether you have a warranty or not you can request a check. Process for replacement of faulty carpet; 1) inform the retailer of your carpets fault 2) The retailer will organise a visit by themselves or the manufacturer representative 3) If after a check your carpet is deemed faulty you will be given a form to fill in, put the fault, and your name e.t.c. the retailer or manufacturer representative will fill in the technical details, such as the position of the fault e.t.c. 4)Depending on the extent of the fault, but the representative will normally diagnose whether or not the fault will receive a automatic replacement or whether more testing will be required. 3) Wait up to 3 weeks to receive your replacement carpet; no money will be required from you, the manufacturer will pay for the replacement and fitting.

- Hello there, Good answer Tommy. The carpet may be slightly cheaper than tolex when you take in to account the installation cost along with material cost. - i have used carpet tile for what i wanted it was perfect!! VERY VERY EASY to install (much easier than peel press tile) easy to trim- we used it because i wanted an ultra low nap carpet in the baby's room (she had severe dust allergies) the rest of the house we removed all the carpet down to the cement floor. the only 'issue' i have had is that with constant picking at it a tile can be pulled up (small bored child LOL!) but if you keep any extras its easily replaced) we had no dogs at the time so cannot speak to that if i had it to do over.... i wouldnt have bothered. we LOVE the cement floor. once she out grew the crawling stage the only carpets we use now are throw rugs that are easily cleaned i would never go back to having any carpet by choice. the plain flooring can be polished/ stained or left as is- its especially nice in the looooong summer weather we have here. in the winter the throw rugs warm it up. if you truly dont like the cement - consider the new floating wood floors like pergo- you might be happier in the long run- remember that if you are prone to any kind of flooding in your basement carpet holds mold (yecch!) rj
