- Q: I am doing a research project and I need to find pictures of classic muscle cars that have the back end all lifted up in the air. Like way up. Does anybody know what this style is called or just some terminology I can use in google to find them. Kind of like street drag racing style?? Thank you.
- I'LL LIFT YOUR REAR AXLE BABY! WHERE DO YOU LIVE?!
- Q: How much does it Cost to get a car lifted for 22 inch or 24 inch rims?
- Varies all over the place. Much of the cost is based on the car itself. Front drive cars are much harder to lift, so much more $$$.
- Q: I took my car for tire replacement and my car was dropped twice from the lift. I would say that the car was dropped from a height of 4 feet. I got an incident report from the manager and now I think I should take the car to some other shop for inspection. There are no visible damages but I think dropping from 4 feet is not something that cars are made to withstand. The car was dropped twice, one time I saw it myself, the other time I only heard the noise and noticed the mechanics putting additional jacks under the car. Upon asking, I was told that they just want to be careful that the front of the car doesn‘t drop to the ground while the rest of the car is still on the lift. Now, I am not sure where to take the car for inspection and whether a mechanic can pinpoint the problems resulting from this incident. Any suggestions?
- You got the wrong kind of tires. The tire salesman should have noticed.
- Q: The way to adjust valve lash is different between the two. The questions I have is How to distinguish a car is mechanical lift or hydraulic lift? Say, if I don‘t know the year of the engine.
- If you could be more specific about what make of engine you are referring to I can probably help out. Thanks
- Q: I know torque is involved somehow but cant put it togethor.
- Mechanical advantage. For example, PA F and Pa f are the forces that can be generated with hydraulic pressure P throughout the car jack. A and a are different areas in the jack where the pressure is applied. So, on the manual end, you apply the force f to a small area and generate a pressure P f/a. Through Pascal's Law, that pressure transmits to the large area, A, under the car. And there you get PA (f/a) A f(A/a) F, a lifting force A/a times more forceful than your meager push f. A/a is the mechanical advantage. No torque here, just comparative areas for a common pressure. But a simple lever can do a similar thing, create mechanical advantage. And here the balance of torques can be used to show that. Mechanical advantage for a lever is (L - p)/p where L is the length of the lever and p is the distance from the short end to the pivot point. EX: If the pivot point of a see-saw is at p L/3, the mechanical advantage is 2/3//1/3 2. So a 75 lb kid on the long end could balance with a 150 lb adult sitting on the short one. Gears of different size can also be used for mechanical advantage. Again torque can be evoked to show that C/c is the mechanical advantage of a large gear with circumference C being turned by a small one of c circumference.
- Q: i have a 1978 ford f-150 4x4 long bed that i want to add a 3 inch body lift. i just dont know the best way to lift up the body i have a 2 car garage i dont want a suspension lift too exspensive. just need ideas for lifting up body.
- That sounds awesome! I don't know much about physics though.
- Q: It looks like the back of my car is higher than the front, I was thinking I can take bolt cutters, raise the back, and cut about an inch off the spring and it will drop that far?If I do this, do I have to take the wheel off, or can I just cut it while it‘s lifted off the ground? Again, it‘s just an inch, or less.
- On a lot of cars and trucks, the back IS higher than the front. This is because they want the car to ride level when loaded. If the back were the same height when unloaded, it would sag when loaded, which effects car stability and handling. Yes cutting the springs will lower your car (back before the days of ready made lowering springs, we actually did this to lower our vehicles for looks). But, this had major side effects. Unless done exactly right, the car will be uneven (leaning, or lower in the back). And regardless if done right or not, the springs will wear out faster due to different stresses added to them. Depending on how low you go, they're also likely to make noise. Best bet would be to look for a set of lowering springs, or perhaps a leveling kit specifically for your car. And given that the factory springs are under compression even with the wheels off the ground, Simply going at them with a pair of bolt cutters would be a BAD idea. Get a repair manual and learn how to take it apart the right way.
- Q: Hey so i have a Musang GT and i bought a new X-pipe i want to install myself the problem is i have no way of getting under the car. I don‘t want to take it to a mechanic who will rape me for $$$, so I‘d love to figure out a way to lift it. I have two other cars in te driveway which have jacks to use to replace the tires, but there‘s a problem with this. 1. those jacks are too unstable and can‘t lift the car high enough, and 2. I need mostly to jack up the rear end, but I‘d love to be able to jack the whole car, and the E brake only stops the rear wheels so jacking the rear end would be too dangerous. Anyway is there a place where i can lift my car or a place with a pit? or are there cheap jacks i can buy somewhere? ThanksAnother note, where do you think is a good place to have it installed, assuming i can‘t find a way to do it myself?
