- Method for cleaning carpet common stains:(1) edible oil stains: use gasoline or carbon tetrachloride and other volatile solvents to clear, the remaining parts should be cleaned with alcohol.(2) sauce oil stains: first stains with cold water brush, and then washed with detergent can be removed.(3) Chen Zixian wash with detergent, then wash the carpet with ammonia, citric acid.(4) oil stains on shoes: wipe with gasoline, turpentine or alcohol, and then wash with soap.(5) urine stains: a new stain with warm water or 10% ammonia liquid washing, but ammonia injury to the wool carpet fiber, so it should minimize the use of commonly used citric acid or soap, alcohol can also be used.(6) fruit juice stains: first rinse with 5% ammonia water, then use detergent again.(7) ice cream stains: wipe with gasoline.(8) wine stains: fresh stains can be washed with water. - Q: What if I went to Home Depot and bought a sheet of rubber cut to just a bit less than 8' x 10' and then a piece of felt the same size - glue them together and pop the area rug on top?Would that work?
- Hi Blue Eyed Homo, I am a flooring associate that works at The Home Depot, and I know that some rug pads seem to be expensive, especially in your size. I've worked in other departments and been with the company for almost 10 years and I have yet to see a sheet of rubber that will sell in the store other than pan liner for tubs that would work in your situation. Also, you won't find at our store pieces of felt in that size. Plus, felt just won't be able to grip the rug properly especially if you have a hardwood floor. Did you check around your local stores flooring department? I think I may have a less expensive solution for you. Carpet padding, not rug pad, but the kind ppl place under their carpets. It may not look pretty but its made to not be seen anyway and it works great for big area rugs your size. Home Depot sells carpet pad in pre-cut 6ft. by 9ft. rolls or have your flooring associate there cut out a size for you. Bottom line....the carpet pad will be way less expensive than the rug pads we sell, and you'll still have a slip resistant surface for your new area rug for years to come. Hope this helps, aboveaveragejoe
- Q: I have a brand new rug that is less than a week old. Every time I lift it up and sweep I have piles of white fine powder. That,s at least 3 times a day. Does anyone know what this is. I 'm thinking of taking it back.
- Sounds like same problem we had either the backing of the rug or small particles of fibre from the ends of the material that makes up the rug
- Q: Our family just moved into an apartment with 4 year old carpet (the manager verified the installation date). We plan on moving in 4 years when my husband is done with medical school. Therefore, the carpet would be 8 years old. We would like to pay to replace the carpeting, but the manager is claiming that the carpeting we are looking at isn't quot;commercial gradequot; and that it won't last after we move. The manager also claims that the carpeting that is currently installed could potentially last another 4-8 years. The current rule here is that if you damage the carpet and it must be replaced within the first 7 years, you must pay x/7 of the value. My question is: If we trash our carpet and move out in 4 years, they won't be able to charge us. Why can't I just replace it now with carpeting that I like? Does this sound right? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
- Despite what many people think, you really cant put an expiration date on carpet, I dont see how he can really do this. Do not put the carpet in for all the reasons specified above. I dont know a single land lord who doesn't factor in normal wt. Unless there is overwhelming evidence that you completely destroyed the carpet, they dont have much on you. My step father went to court for this same reason, he was trying to sue for carpet that was about 5 1/2 years old, claiming that the previous tenants had destroyed it. The judge told my step dad, tough, carpet will be subject to wt.
- Q: My ex landlord is charging me pro-rated costs to replace the entire carpet. While I don't think the carpet needs to be replaced, they said they couldn't get all the carpet installed before the new tenant moved in that they will replace the carpet upon the exit of the new tenant, whenever that may be. Can the legally do that? They've sent me receipts for the carpet cleaning have deducted the pro-rated amount to replace all the carpet. FYI I moved out the end of June, they sent me estimates the end of July now in January they've just sent me the invoices, I asked, for the work they completed, the new tenant moved in-in August.
- Usually they have time frame within which they have to bill you.
- Q: Is one of the two supposed to be softer than the other? More durable? Easier to clean? I want a sisal type area rug. I want a casual look that would go with my blend of tradtional and contemporary decor. I do not want a scratchy rug with fibers that quot;stick upquot; like bristles on a brush! I thought the sisal would be softer and more pliant to the touch, but a decorator friend said the jute is what I want.I believe seagrass is the scratchy, bristle-y fiber, and I don't want that. I want a sleek, tailored look.Any suggestions or ideas?
- Sisal rugs tend to be more durable. They are both natural fibers. I believe sisal wool rugs are what you're looking for. Sisal - the strength and durability of natural fibers, Wool - the soft underfoot feel. Sisal wool rugs have the best of both worlds - durable and soft. Jute is also soft, one of the softest natural fiber rugs. I guess the best way to compare the textured feel is to go into a rug shop and feel the difference of the materials.
- Q: Ok so i want to get new carpet in my basement and on the Home Depot website it says that youcan get any size carpet for only $139, but idk if this includes taking the old carpet out. If not, then how would i do that, and/or how much will it cost???
- They give you an estimate if you go in and tell them the size of the room. Removing is usually included in carpet stores but Home Depot might charge for that but you can ask.
- Q: What are some tips on caring for and cleaning my oriental rug?
- You Need: Vacuum A hair brush An old T Shirt Hair conditioner Scotch-guard Before you say “who is this freak”, just hear me out… Give the rug a good vacuum. Put some hair conditioner in a bowl and add warm water. Take the T Shirt and soak it in the bowl. Squeeze T Shirt and then wrap it around the hair brush. Brush the rug until it is damp BUT NOT WET. This will keep the fibers soft. Once you have done this, use the hair brush again, this time without the T shirt. You want to fluff the fibers up. Once done, it then needs a final vacuum. NOTE: The number of times you will need to do this will depend on how much traffic the rug gets. If traffic is high, then do this every two months. If not, then maybe every 4-5 months. Lastly, your rug is less likely to absorb stains if you scotch- guard it after cleaning.
