- Q: I have blue walls with a gray blue carpet. That would make for ugly curtains. Do they really need to match?
- We now have blinds or verticals on all of our windows (well, and a bit of a fabric swag over my blinds). But, we used to have curtains/drapes on most of our windows. And no, the curtains did not match the carpet. The curtains were kind of a drab off-white or beige color. We went through several different carpeting colors in the house during the time we had curtains, so obviously color matching wasn't an issue! *chuckle* I say, go with what YOU think looks pleasing and pretty, even if interior designers or magazines tell you otherwise!
- Q: how do you remove a moldy smell from carpet?
- You can clean the carpet with the following process: 1) Vacuuming carpet for collection of all loose dirt particles. This step insures dirt and grime will not be ground into your carpet upon agitation. 2) Pre-spray application of our cleaning solution. The solution is applied evenly throughout the carpeted area. 3) Agitate the carpet. Agitating the carpet allows for the cleaning solution to really cleanse the carpet fibers. 4) Use hot water extraction with the equipment. The extraction allows for a deep thorough rinse of all carpet fibers. 5) Do some beautiful grooming of the carpet. Giving the carpet a newer appearance look.
- Q: I was just wondering instead of buying a brand new rug I may just get the one he has now repaired. However like I said in the other question the neck slips down and as he is clipped it's not good...this is how it looks..

- Q: The new carpet smells great. How do you clean it?
- After replacing the new carpet, first open the window to make sure the room is ventilated.Open a bottle of baking soda and spread a thin layer over the carpet. Then carefully sweep the baking soda into the carpet fiber with a broom.
- Q: When my carpets are cleaned at first, they are perfectly clean and I have a friend who owns a carpet company who doesn't just steam clean the carpets. After a few months, the same stains seem to re-emerge from where they were before as if they were cleaned on the surface but re-surfaced.I have 2 cats where I have cleaned hairballs, and a lot of throwing up, and I think that's what the stains are from. I use the MIracle stuff for cat stains/odors and it seems to work at first, but again they come up especially in the hallway upstairs. The rest of my my carpets are not bad, even after a year. I take good care of them and keep them as clean as possible but these round stains in various places make it look really bad! How can I make them go away permanently. I'm tired of hiring expensive carpet cleaners where they look great for a month or so; then these same spots seem to come back plus additional hairballs which I try to catch as soon as I can.Thanks.
- If you have had your carpets professionally cleaned, and they stay clean for a while only to have the same spots re-appear, this means that the padding under the carpet is hopelessly stained. The padding stain will continue to wick up and stain the carpet until the problem is fixed. The solution? You need to have the carpet peeled back, cut the stained padding out, and replace that part with new padding. Any carpet installer should be able to do this. After replacing the stained padding, have the carpet professionally cleaned again, and it will stay clean. Hope this helps. -
- Q: I need an area rug for my living room and here is a picture of my inspiration room compliments of Pottery Barn. The carpet in my living room is like a beigeish oatmeal color. I also have small kids so something that could hide stains easily would be nice. My walls are white and my woods are Cherry...suggestions? Any specific hints in picking out a rug?
- Braided rag rugs are especially nice for concealing stains and blending with most any decor. They're also especially good for anyone with allergies because they do not have backing made with formaldehyde and thus don't give off the awful smells.
- Q: I recently moved and in my old place I noticed that my rug stained the linoleum. Now that I have moved, I really want to take care of my new place and was wondering if there is any way to prevent this staining?
- There are a few types out there ,but the one I m familar with is calles Rug Hold.. It s a thin rubberymat you put under your rugs to hold them down and wont react w/ your vinyl like the backing is know to your vinyl.. Ashphalt drives are a big problem (tracking in the oils) because the petroleum based products react w/ each other and causes the yellow stains you see.. Check any product like this and get the 1 for your needs.. They make them for wood and carpet etc The nice thing is they can be tossed in washer when they do lose tackeyness and be renewedGL
- Q: I have never washed a winter rug and my horses really needs doing but I'm not quite sure how !?Dry cleaners ?In the bath tub? (by hand) The washing machine looks to small... and I do not want to wreck it !!!Thankkss xx
- Im lucky our dry cleaner has very large front load washing machines that take them quite well. Although you can never get them perfect I wash them in the hottest water available. I do not care about color washing out. I want them clean. I also use either a blanket cleaner or I just buy the soap for infants that way it does not irritate their skin next winter. But before I take them I usually leave them over a fence during the spring rain to help wash as much of both sides. I usually rotate between big storms to clean both sides. I also don't want my care to smell to bad. I love horses but my job requires taking people around in my car. Just my 2 cents.
- Q: My carpet needs a good cleaning, but I am afraid that by shampooing the carpet, the wetness will ruin my hardwood floors underneath..
- Art, you need to check and see what is under the carpet. If she has shag, then it is really old, as this was popular in the 1960's-70's. If there are hardwood floors underneath, be prepared to rent a floor sander, as it will surely need to be refinished. She may want to stain the hardwood. Go to Home Depot or to Lowes for advice on this. If no kids, hardwood is better appearance than shag carpet, but is a matter of taste, too. Be sure that there are no squeeks in the floor, too. You can add a pop of color to a room with an area rug that fills in floor space around and under a coffee table. Rugs need not be huge, but can be. Rugs can be used to define an area in a large room. Say you have an open concept great room. You can use more than one area rug to define specific areas. Area rugs are often used in high foot traffic spaces to protect the flooring, especially under dining sets where chairs are constantly in motion. Area rugs will last a good long time if you keep them vacuumed and take the time and energy to rotate the rugs at least once a year, so possible sun fading will not be noticeable.
