- It all depends on the type of stain ... I have three microfiber sofas and I treated two of them with Scotchguard and one (the first one I bought) I did not. Most spills or stains come up from the sofas with a bit of resolve and a gentle rub but the sofa I did not scotchguard does have one grease stain on it that I could not get to come up. I would say better safe than sorry and invest in a can of Scotchguard ... just remember to let it dry completely before using the couch again.
