Q:911 conspiacy theorists. Can fire melt steel?
Don't know the differences in steel strength between the WTC towers and the bridge, but I'll tell you they don't always use the strongest steel in buildings. It is a question of value engineering. Engineers do as code requires, and make the determination based on economics of building. If a steel member requires say 48 KSI, with certain span, but if the price is less expensive to use 35 KSI and reduce the span by adding vertical elements then that is an option that the architects, engineers and developers consider. Like I said, don't much about bridge engineering, but in buildings, it isn't always the strongest steel, based on engineering and economics. And BTW, said time and time again, but ok one more time. STEEL DOESN'T NOT HAVE TO MELT FOR FAILURE. IT LOSES STRENGTH WITH HEAT. THAT IS WHY IT MUST BE PROTECTED BY FIRE RETARDANT. BUT IF THE FIRE RETARDANT IS REMOVED BY EXPLOSION, THEN FIRE CAN CAUSE FAILURE. Sorry for the shouting, but I'm not the only one who says that, but people keep saying steel can't melt, but it doesn't have to for failure. If the steel joist had been in concrete, the WTC towers may have stood, at least longer. But hindsight is 20/20.
Q:I have heartgold and I don't have a steel type Pokemon to beat lapras. HELP
I found electric pokemon more effective.. but try Steelix or Riachu
Q:The knife will be large and thick. Like the Bowie knife Rambo uses in Rambo III. It doesn't need to be flexible or to hold the edge very well. But i need it to be exceptionally strong material and to stop corrosion at least decently. Is Damascus Steel good?Thank you, in advance.
Damascus steel is the poorest quality. The laminations separate under stress. Centuries ago the only way to get steel bars was to make it up by hammering wires together in a series of welds. The welds usually were porous and the steel would fail. The pattern of the welds is attractive to some people. An old file has good hard steel and wiill make up into a knife if it is annealed to make it easier to shape and cut. The hardness can be restored by tempering. Treating with oil is the cure to prevent rust.
Q:i want to buy an exhaust but whats the difference between satinless steel and titanium exhaust?
Stainless steel is more corrosion resistant than steel and titanium is more corrosion resitant and lighter. However, titanium is more prone to picking up (scratches caused by normal tools creating scratches and leading to stress fractures). The Lockheed Blackbird had to have tools treated lithium grease (i could be wrong) to prevent this. I'd stick with stainless steel as i think any titanium exhaust you can buy will be a titanium composite due to its cost
Q:it isn't a SIGG water bottle or any other brand, as it's from thingsengraved what I'm wondering is, is this just as good as a SIGG water bottle, or is there any difference?
Stainless steel is one of the best products to use for anything associated with food. It can be sterilized, it won't stain or absorb odors, it can be recycled and much of it is made of recycled material. If you take care of it, it can last a lifetime. We get hung up on brand names, you should look at the material it is made of. Which is a quality grade of stainless steel. I couldn't find the grade on the Sigg site, but I would think it would be the same or very similar. So, all that to say, this one seems to be as good as a Sigg.
Q:I have a need to connect various stainless steel tubes and fitting together and was wondering how to do it. I know a TIG welder is an option but have heard rumors that there is a way to solder it in much the same way you affix copper pipe. Perhaps with higher heat and different flux. I need step by step and maybe suppliers of the materials. Thanks in advance and please I do not need the call a plumber answers as I've gotten in the past
Soft Soldering All grades of stainless steel can be soldered with lead-tin soft solder. Leaded solders should not be used when the product being soldered is used for food processing, serving or transport. Soldered joints are relatively weak compared to the strength of the steel, so this method should not be used where the mechanical strength is dependent upon the soldered joint. Strength can be added if the edges are first lock-seamed, spot welded or riveted. In general, welding is always preferable to soldering. Recommended procedure for soldering: · 1. The steel surfaces must be clean and free of oxidation. · 2. A rough surface improves adherence of the solder, so roughening with grinding wheel, file or coarse abrasive paper is recommended. · 3. Use a phosphoric acid based flux. Hydrochloric acid based fluxes require neutralising after soldering as any remnant traces will be highly corrosive to the steel. Hydrochloric acid based fluxes are not recommended for soldering of stainless steels. · 4. Flux should be applied with a brush, to only the area being soldered. · 5. A large, hot iron is recommended. Use the same temperature as for carbon steel, but a longer time will be required because of stainless steel's low thermal conductivity. · 6. Any type of solder can be used, but at least 50% tin is recommended. Solder with 60-70% tin and 30-40% lead has a better colour match and greater strength.
Q:How are steel coils used in the production of agricultural equipment?
Steel coils are used in the production of agricultural equipment as they serve as the primary material for manufacturing various components such as frames, brackets, and structural supports. These coils are shaped, cut, and welded to create the required parts, which are then assembled to form agricultural machinery like tractors, plows, and harvesters. The strength and durability of steel make it an ideal choice for withstanding the demanding conditions and heavy workloads typically associated with agricultural equipment.
Q:I need help! Please help, I'm in Chemistry, and me and my friend Lucy are making a presentation on steel and iron, so how is steel manufactured? Thank you. :D
The steel consists of ( Iron ) and another matter... but the popular one is iron+carbon / iron+silver - When iron is smelted from its ore by commercial processes, it contains more carbon than is desirable. To become steel, it must be melted and reprocessed to reduce the carbon to the correct amount, at which point other elements can be added. This liquid is then continuously cast into long slabs or cast into ingots. Approximately 96% of steel is continuously cast, while only 4% is produced as cast steel ingots. The ingots are then heated in a soaking pit and hot rolled into slabs, blooms, or billets. Slabs are hot or cold rolled into sheet metal or plates. Billets are hot or cold rolled into bars, rods, and wire. Blooms are hot or cold rolled into structural steel, such as I-beams and rails. In modern foundries these processes often occur in one assembly line, with ore coming in and finished steel coming out. Sometimes after a steel's final rolling it is heat treated for strength, however this is relatively rare.
Q:What are the challenges in the production of steel coils?
There are several challenges in the production of steel coils. Firstly, maintaining consistent quality and meeting the desired specifications can be difficult due to variations in raw materials, production processes, and equipment performance. Secondly, ensuring efficient and cost-effective production requires careful planning and optimization of various factors such as energy consumption, material handling, and logistics. Thirdly, the steel industry faces environmental challenges related to emissions, waste generation, and resource consumption, which necessitate sustainable practices and compliance with regulations. Lastly, competition in the global market demands continuous improvement and innovation to stay ahead in terms of product quality, cost competitiveness, and customer satisfaction.
Q:How are steel coils shipped internationally?
Steel coils are typically shipped internationally using cargo ships or freight trains. The coils are securely loaded onto flatbed or container vessels, ensuring they are properly secured to prevent any damage during transportation. This method allows for efficient and cost-effective transportation of large quantities of steel coils across the globe.
