Q: I bought a new rug for my living room. My cats love it and they want to lay on it and scratch it up. How can I let them know its off limits!?!?!?: Sometimes the chemicals in rugs and carpets attract cats - especially when the carpet is new. This may just take time until the new carpet smell wears off. If they're scratching on the carpet, they're marking it and showing they have claimed this as their's. You can try a product called Feliway that mimics the scent a cat leaves when they rub against something. (Rubbing is another way to mark.) This may make it seem like they have already marked the carpet so they don't think they have to do it again. You're not going to keep them off the carpet completely unless you put it in a room that they'd aren't allowed to go into.

Q: I acquired a huge area rug from someone who was giving it away, they said I just have to steam clean it. Well the thing smells beyond belief and we've already used a whole bottle of Bissel cleaner solution. Do you think t will come clean if I take it outside tomorrow and spray it off with a hose and some vinegar and let the sun do the rest? I do not want to have to go to the store and buy anymore solution, it's obviously not working so far.Thanks!: take the rug outside on the concrete, mix up your normal laundry solution with some oxi clean and a 1/4 cup bleach, dilute this in a gallon of water, pour some on the rug and use a broom to scrub the rug. Then rinse with the water hose. If you have something like a couple of boards you can lay underneath the rug so the water will flow thru the fibers it will rinse easier. Let it dry in the sun.

Help?: lay the rug out upside down and place some weight on the problem ares....boxes of books, or canned goods for example...it don't have to be too heavy. let it go for a few days and then turn the rug over and do the same with any problem areas

Q: whats the difference between the two? i've done latch hooking but im wondering if rug hooking is the same thing or close?: 2 differences, first you don't get precut yarn with rug hooking, you use a skein or ball of yarn, starting from the back with your hook on the top, pull the yarn through, making a continuous line. 2nd the hook in rug hooking does not have the latch over the hooky part. I did quite a few latch hook projects and tons of fun. I just recently learned rug hooking while on vacation. At first it is a little harder, getting a even tension and so that the pile of yarn on the top is all even and not splitting the yarn. We need something that will keep it from wrinkling every time someone walks on it. Is there a product (besides duct tape) that will do this?: You mentioned you have a pad. Is it a pad specifically made for a rug going over a carpet. If not that might be the problem. Rug to Rug hold pad is best. It is a thin pad that has a tackiness on both sides. It will not hurt your exisiting carpet, and will hold your rugs in place. It take a few days to get the pad to settle into its memory to hold your rug. A rug to rug hold pad will sometimes lose it tackiness to hold a rug in place, however if you can wash it usually that tackiness comes back. Don't put it in the dryer. The rug to rug hold pad sort of feels like post-a-note tackiness. Usually this type of pad can be purchased at Home Depot or Lowe's and most rug stores will carry a variety of pads. If all else fails you can use double-sided tape, not duct tape.

Q: Alright.. so i need to kill fleas that MAY be in my carpet. I havn't seen any hop on me but my kitten has got fleas. I have a 12 month old son also.. that crawls on the carpet and puts anything in sight in his mouth, including his hands that obviously touch the carpet. I am sure SOMEONE has had this conundrum at some point... I am hoping some one can help me with this. What i have done so far, i've washed my precious with baby shampoo and combed the rest out... and so far i haven't seen her itch or any live fleas (she's white so they are evident) but i am sure they have gotten in my carpet in my living room. anything NATURAL or CHEMICAL that is toxic for my cat or baby is out of the question.. thanks for reading. i hope you can help!! :): I would suggest first, doing what you are doing. I am not sure if regular shampoo works as well, but dish washing liquid does kill fleas. Using a metal flea comb on the head, face and ears will get the runaways. If you did not do the head right away, you might repeat the bath. Then, after the first bath, wait about 7 to 10 days and repeat the process, which gets any newly-hatched fleas. Make sure that you leave the dish soap bubbles on the kitten until the fleas are not moving. If you repeat this bath and metal flea combing and don't see anymore fleas, you are probably in the clear. If you just go the kitten within about one week, or so you might be O.K. I would wait to use chemicals and especially around a baby. If there aren't fleas jumping onto your kitten right now, there may not be any in the carpeting. Vacuum each day. See how it goes by the next week or 10 days. You can also comb with metal flea comb on a daily basis, if you are so, inclined. Dip any live fleas on the comb, into a cup of water with dish soap in it.
