Q: I just have the power cable for battery, lost the ground cable.. Can I cut from power cable and use for ground? Are they the same thing or different cables.??
yes you could use the power cable for the ground because the power cable and ground cable are the same material, as long as both the same guage size is good to connect. For the ground should be as short as possible to the chassis of the car. ground cable just as important as power to get the circuit DC power circulation.
Q: I'm curious, because I was looking through the 'combo deals' for a part for a potential build, and one of them was a SATA cable (item itself was a hard drive). Does Newegg, or for that matter any major computer retailer, sell products that come with all the cables you need to actually use the part? I guess I'm primarily concerned with Hard Drives and Disk Drives in this case... oh, and PSUs I guess. And the mobo, will that have the power cable?
Newegg Computer Parts
Q: when i bought my motherboard it came with two 4-pin to sata power cables but i see that the power supplies have a sata power cable on it how do i connect these i have no idea how to do this
The hard drive should have a 4 pine Molex connection or similar that matches up to the outputs from the power supply. Basically its a Molex (4 wire) connection to the power supply and a long thin data connection to the mother board.
Q: is it possible to split the live wire feeding my car stereo into 3 feeds so one is my stereo , two is my satnav power cable and the 3rd is my reversing sensor display. will this overload the wires? any advice how i can do this would be most helpful. thanks
I'm assuming you mean the wire providing the 12-volt power to your radio? And you want to connect other unit's it? It all depends on how much current is drawn by the additional units. Do they have fuses? What sizes are they? Backup cameras usually draw very little current and have really thin wires. Shouldn't be a problem. What type of navigation device? Does it use a DVD-ROM or is it just on a chip, like a portable Tom Tom, Garvin, etc.? If neither of the units' fuses exceed 5 amps, I'd say you're safe (in most cars) running it from the radio's power wire. However, you didn't state the type of car. Late-model GM cars or Audi/Volkswagen have low-current radio wires that use computers. They are known as data bus or can bus systems. I'd avoid connecting to these.
Q: I've got a 1994 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS 1.8 and I can't find any place to put the amp cable through the firewall! Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ;).
Just adding to the grommet guys answer above: Just as important as the grommet; a fuse. You must have a fuse as close to the positive battery terminal as possible. Why?, you say? If, for whatever reason your power wire shorts out to the frame somewhere between your battery and your amp, what's going to prevent that wire from turning into a giant heating coil running the length of your car, and torching it. I've seen it first hand many times. And, no, the fuse at the amplifier, the fuse in the distribution block (if you're using one) or any other fuse other than a fuse at the battery won't do a thing for you power wire unless it's before the potential short. Like at the batttery... In short, the grommet prevents the short at the firewall. The fuse protects it in case it does it anyway.
Q: I left my power cable at my cabin, which is a few hours away. I don't want to replace the cable (I'll be going back anyway in a few days), but I need to use my laptop. So far I've tried an old laptop cable, but its to big, and a game system adapter, but it doesn't have enough power. Are there any solutions that don't involve me buying a new cable?
Do NOT play guessing games with this. If you use one of a higher rating or worse with reverse polarity input you will totally destroy the laptop.
Q: What can I use for a power cable? Need a new one and I am not sure what to get. Could you send a link to one please?
Looks OK for the price.
Q: I have a simple 400watt amp going to a single 10inch kicker sub, nothing crazy. I need to know what gauge of power cable would be safe. An 8 gauge for example...
Hi . 8 gauge is fine for now . Just some advise its better to invest a little more and get a 4 gauge cos with sound u always want more if later u want to upgrade then you have already got your 4 gauge cable installed .
Q: I want to hook up (charge) my iphone AND my radar on my motorcycle. My radar is already wired to the 12v cable in my bike. Now can I hook up the iphone to the same cable? or is it gonna be drawing too much power? thxI was planning on buying the cigarrete lighter thing, and pluging the iphone into that. I'd obviously hook up the cig lighter to the 12v cable.
Basically no, they are better wired separately unless you calculate the load. A ciggy lighter socket is not water proof so find a proper bike socket. BMW do them, You need to work out what the total load of these 2 are, and check the output of your alternator and the capacity of your battery to make sure you have enough ''spare'' power. What make of bike is it? What's the battery capacity and the output from the alternator. Electrics on modern bikes are usually good enough for accessories, I run 100w headlight 2 x 50w spots, sat nat phone and audio, not always all together, so do some sums on what power you have otherwise if it's only a small battery and alternator you could run the battery own whilst riding.
Q: Hi,I recently bought a daewoo l700c monitor second hand. Its cheap because It didn't come with a power supply/power cable.I know that It requires one of those one point plugs..like the ones that go into some laptops.Help please?
notice the info to the left of the port this is importent take this info with you when you look for one of these
