- Q: We just rented a house and the carpet has a very powerful urine smell. The landlord said he had the carpet cleaned and won't pay more. Is there a way to remove the smell permently? I don't want to mask the smell. i need a solution that really works and is cheap and effective. I see no visable stains just the super strong odor. I think it is berber carpet
- Get a black light to locate the problem areas. But it could be that it was so soaked with urine it went underneath and affected the actual floor. If that's the case it needs to be torn out and replaced. If your landlord refuses I would seek legal advice. Anyway, if you can locate the problem with the black light soak it with a viengar/water solution (50.50 mix) and then sprinkle baking soda on it. Once it dries vacuum it up. That should solve your problem. but like I said, if it's gone through the carpet to the actual flooring you're going have to demand more be done. That's nasty, I hope you're able to get it solved quickly!
- Q: The problem with putting a rug on carpet is that the natural nap in the rug and the nap in the carpet work against each other. Makes bumps like you wouldn't believe (even if no one walks on it). Furniture on top of the rug makes it worse.Does anyone else have this problem and if so have you been able to fix it, or at least minimize the bumps on the rug?
- Dawn is right.. The special rug to carpet under layment ( its not really a pad).Its thin and feels tacky but leaves no residue. These underlayments are real thin and will pick up dirt naturally and loose their tackiness but you can toss them in the washer and they come back to work again. Some one will tell you to get the shelf liner material, this is not the same stuff and can leave marks.
- Q: How do I remove the tea stains from the carpet?
- Sponge it in water, and dry it in the same way.
- Q: Well, my cat pooped on my rug. It got rolled up now the whole rug smells horrible! Is there something I can use to make it smell better/fresh.
- Clean off as much of the poop as you can. Then just wash the rug right in your washing machine... ld water, regular laundry detergent. Hang to air dry. Machine drying can ruin the backing of the rug. Good luck. -

- I had a house with all wooden floors until last August. I loved it at first and then I realized it WAS always dirty. I use to call my mother and complain that even though I just mopped there was still stuff on my feet so I had to wear shoes at all times. Even if no one left the house to drag anything inside, there was always something. I have carpet now except in the bathrooms and kitchen. I love it. For my birthday I got a really nice vacuum and it's my favourite thing ever.

- If done immediately , it is sure to work, but it might work now. Get a steam cleaner and carpet shampoo. Steam clean and scrub the carpet with carpet shampoo and warm water. When finished, cover up with towel and stomp on the towel to dry.

- When the carpet is dry, the weight is not too large, but it is still relatively hard after soaking and can not be turned in the washing machine. In serious cases, it will damage the washing machine. Therefore, it is recommended not to use the washing machine to wash carpet.

- I'll go out on a limb here and guess that $440 is NOT high ... first, it's an Oriental ... second, you are in NYC. And ... it's a big rug! Oriental rugs need to be handled with the utmost care. I would call around to several places for price quotes. I don't actually have a point of reference, either ... but I'm betting that (in your area, at least) you'll find that the price you were given is well within ballpark range. Did you buy the rug new? If so, call the retailer and ask for a recommendation. You may be able to get a break on the price for a referral from the rug seller. If you bought the rug secondhand (or bought it mass-market ... or don't know where the rug originally came from) ... you're probably stuck paying top buck, but BE SURE to get the estimate in writing before you have any work done on the rug!

- Install the baseboards 5/8 to 3/4 off the floor first. Carpet always comes last. It depends on what style you want and how much you want to pay for base boards. You can get pine and oak just about anywhere and they work just fine.
