- Q: computer MB does not contain a power supply connector for the SATA power cable leading to the SATA HD, is this the norm? the cable connector is 5 prong female, there is no 5 prong male connector on the MB or the PSU. any suggestions?
- The power for your hard drive actually comes from your PSU, in the form of a 4-pin molex connector. As for the SATA...if it is a SATA hard drive, you'll want a SATA motherboard. Almost all modern motherboards have these connections. If yours doesn't, I'd imagine it's just old...or really cheap.
- Q: what wattage do you need, how many power cables going into the graphics card and what type etc
- 400-500 watts will be fine. I ran mine on a 430 watt antec for about 18 months just fine. FYI - it did run fine on a generic 350 watt PSU for a couple weeks also. You will be fine with 34 amps or more on your 12 volt rail(s). You need 1, 6-pin, PCI-E power cable, or an adapter that comes with most cards to convert 2, 4-pin cables to 1, 6-pin cable.

- Q: I need 300 ft. of service entrance cable and I've been told I need 4 guage 3 wire 200 amp aluminum is what I need but I'm wondering if this 1 guage overhead line would work just as well if buried in 2electrical pvc conduit for 300 ft.
- Sorry wrong type of cable. The overhead is type SE with a certain insulation type. A 300 foot run will have an appreciable line loss from resistance and hysteresis and when inspected will cause hysterics from the inspector. Hire a qualified professional electrical contractor to do the work properly the first time, faster and easier and possibly the same price as you having to do it and to make repairs later. Also the work of digging a trench that deep is not easy, the contractor has the skills and the equipment and the personnel to do it the first time. This allows you a 2 day time frame instead of 2 weeks. Also pulling the wrong cable that distance is not easy and should be done with the proper power puller. Also #4 Al is not rated for 200 amps.
- Q: Would a maxtor 320GB external hard drive work without a power cable if I connect it to the USB port?
- Yes you need a power supply for all 3.5 inch drives. The laptop drives on the other hand will power off USB. Is this a SATA or ESATA drive? You can buy an enclosure for the SATA for around 35.00 and 70.00 + for a good ESATA enclosure. The cheaper ones do not work to well with the ESATA. If it's EIDE then you can get one off OKorder for around 12.00. Good luck.
