Q: I just recently moved and the carpet in the bedroom is brown. I don't have the money to replace it, but I would like to brighten it. I can tell at one point it was a very dark brown and has lightened up over time. I would like to know how to darken it without having to replace it yet. Is there a way to darken it?
It would be less expensive to replace the carpet, using a carpet remnant available from a specialized carpet store. Take your room measurements with you and look around. These carpet stores are anxious to sell these remnants and will take a reasonable offer on them. Nylon carpet is perhaps the easiest carpet to dye and going from a light color is the best choice when dyeing this fiber. Olefin carpet cannot be dyed. Polyester carpets, made from recycled plastic bottles is relatively inexpensive to begin with and is, in my estimation and experience, not worth dyeing. If you follow through with the replacement, carefully examine the carpet pad to see if it to should be replaced. Removing the old carpet and pad is relatively easy and something you can do your self with a utility knife. Cut it in smaller pieces from the backside to make removal easier. If you shop for a remnant, make an offer they cannot refuse.
Q: like to put on carpet and vacuum up.
I okorder ., to locate one near you.
Q: I am looking to purchase an area rug. I finally see one that I love. It's made from viscose rayon. Would that be a mistake to buy. It's very reasonably priced. I have no intention to buy a $500 rug anyway.
You can secure it with double sided carpet tape if you are concerned about creep. The home improvement centers sell it and it works very well to secure the area rug I have under my dining room table. Viscose rayon would indeed be a good choice in an area with chair traffic, food and beverages. It won't hold stains or smells like wool does, will be easier to clean than silk and is better quality fiber than nylon. If the flooring that it is going over is hardwood or ceramic tile, you can also purchase a non-skid underlayment that will protect your floors and stop creep. Go for it and enjoy!
Q: I recently lost a large wall rug in my house due to a fire. The only information I have for it is the following: My grandmother purchased it from a traveling salesman in Canada sometime between 1967-1971. The dimensions of the rug are approx. 6ft long by 3-4 ft tall. It has a picture of polar bears on icebergs. The edging was red yarn-like fringes.I think that this rug is worth something but I can't find anything like it. I need to put a value on it for insurance purposes so I want to find out its true value and need documentation to prove that that rug, or one close to it, is worth a certain amount of money. My other grandmother had a similarly sized rug, possibly sold by the same guy, but it had a bullfighter and bull on it. Any help on this matter is greatly appreciated.
I'm not incredibly familiar with rugs, but I can try to give some help. After searching around a little bit, it seems that most of the rugs fitting this description are between $200-400, but rugs also run much higher in price. If it is a hand-made rug of that size made by a fine rug-maker, you could be talking $1000 dollars or more. I can't say too much more, since I'm in no way qualified to appraise a rug, since I don't know enough about them, but I included some links in the sources that might help you price your rug. Hope this helps. Good luck!
Q: i get all these fuzz fluffs coming off my wool rug. will it eventually disintegrate into nothing?
Depends what those fluffs are....... uld be natural fluff on the wool, could be broken fibers..............and that's not good. If broken fibers, could be moth damage or other insects living in the wool. Vacuum daily. Have the rug cleaned especially it has had food, animal products, or a lot of foot traffic across it.
Q: My 2yr old spilled ALOT of syrup on our large area rug...I tried HOT water, blotting the area, scrubbing the area and carpet cleaning solutions....any suggestions? Rug still extremely sticky when we step on the areas where the syrup is soaked in.
You will need a lot of water. Put some terry cloth towels underneath and really soak it and blot it a lot. Eventually it will be gone. If you can, put the rug into a Washer or go to the commercial Laundromat and wash it there. I would use soap sparingly or not at all.
Q: Today I put my green fuzzy rug in the dryer for about 15 minutes to clean it a bit and before i put it in the dryer it was not wet and it was all clumpy when i took it out. I also used an aroma therapy dryer sheet to make it smell good- vanilla. Now it looks like sheep wool on a sheep! I was wondering if you know how to get it back to normal. It is also in knots ( I tried combing and brushng it out). please help me asap. it says:Front: 100% acrylicBack: 100% polyesterWash in cold waterDrip dry onlyDo not bleachDo not iron(It is from walmart)if that helps
Oops! Sounds like you fried the puppy. The entire rug is made of man-made fibers. The heat of the dryer, especially since the rug was dry, melted the fibers. Since it is from WalMart, hopefully it wasn't too expensive. Afraid you can't try to take it back. Best to get another and put the old one in the dog house. Next time you put it in the dryer put the setting on air only.
Q: Every summer, my horse gets attacked by the flies on her belly and no creams seem to help. I was looking for an attachment onto her rug which allows her belly to be covered... but couldn't find one - can anyone suggest anything that might help me? Thank you.
An extremely simple and free way to effectively protect her from flies is to cover the section that is being attacked with wet mud and to let it cake on and dry.
Q: So my bedroom is carpeted and there's some stains (dirt and pop mostly) but im trying to clean my room up a bit and id like to get the stands out any ideas?
carpet cleaner and a scrubber. it'll be clean and spotless. ( prefer the foam carpet cleaner)
Q: We have white carpet and I want to know some of your experiences of what has worked the best. We have a bissel carpet cleaner at home and I would like to use that but the bissel cleaners don't work very well from what I've found.
hire the rug doctor
