- Q: I'm sofa shopping and found one I like. It is 101 W x 44D x 42 H. My door is 33 W and 78 tall. I don't think the feet of the couch are removable. I'm worried it won't fit. Any help?
- It will fit, even if it seems that it can't. Are you picking it up at the store or are they delivering it? If they do, they will make it seem easy because a furniture company that makes or sells items that won't fit through a standard door will soon be out of business. All it takes is some strength and a little geometry. Usually if you tilt the thing at an angle, you can work one end into the room and then repeat the process. If you want to make it go easier, make sure there's nothing in the way when the time comes and maybe have a blanket or two to protect handrails and walls. I've moved dozens of sofas and thousands of cabinets and though they sometimes take a little planning, they all will fit through a door. The only time it gets tricky is when there are narrow stairs involved, and even that is just a question of proper use of angles. Couches are easy, but king size mattresses are a nightmare because they're just large and heavy with no satisfactory way to grab them. If the furniture company is delivering the sofa, they will refund your money if it doesn't fit into your home, but it will unless you live in a tree house or a bunker or something. In a regular house or apartment there will be no problem even though it may seem like it can't go.

- Yes. Numerous scratch covers are on the market and readily available in hardware stores, building supply stores etc. Make sure you get the right colour of scratch cover for your sofa.

Does anybody have a micro fiber sofa, and does the dust, and lint stick to it? And how is it keeping it clean? - I have a microfiber sofa a microfiber sectional, both from Ashley. I have several pieces in my home from Ashley. Their stuff isn’t well made so it won’t last for decades, but it’s cheap enough I can replace my stuff every few years. The sofa is about four years old, and our stain guard is still holding up fine (or so says that glass of red wine I dropped on it a few months ago…). It could stand to be steam cleaned, but my only complaint about the couch is that the cushion filling didn’t hold up well. The fabric is fine. The sectional is only a couple of months old, but no complaints so far. I have two cats and their hair definitely sticks to this fabric. I have found that rubber cleaning gloves are great for removing hair. Rub your gloved hands along the fabric and the hair will separate from the fabric.

- Q: I have a down feather filled sofa and feathers keep coming out. I am finding them all over the sofa and the people sitting on it. Is there any way of stopping this?
- interesting. Feathers aren't usually used for sofas because they compact so much, they don't offer good support/structure. Well- the only solution I know of, is making your own liner. You would have to open the cushions, and If there IS a liner in there already, take it out, and basically make a pillowcase around with with another fabric that will hold in the feathers. (you need a VERY tight weave so they don't come through- check your fabric shop for recommendations near you). If there is no liner in there (loose feathers when you open the zippered cushions) well, that's you're problem. You need to measure and custom sew a liner for it, and put all the feathers inside that. Then you would re-put on the real outer cover to your cushions. If the actual SOFA part (not just additional cushions) has feathers coming out, unless you're very handy, I'd get quotes on getting the whole thing reupholstered. Good Luck.
- Q: The living room set I like does not come with a recliner or chair, and I'd really like at least 6 seats. I'm either thinking about 2 loveseats and a sofa or 2 sofas and a loveseat. I haven't seen any living room or pictures with either of these arrangements, so I thought I'd ask around to get some opinions.
- As long a the love seats are esthetically correct I think it would be fine. I've got a Rattan sectional that took care of the same problem. It came with 7 pieces, 1 corner (6'), 2 ends (one 4' section and 1 5' section), 2 armless sections (3' ea.) and a hassock with casters. which I topped with a piece of 3/8 safety glass and use for a coffee table. It has many, many arrangements to fit almost any type of space. I hope this helps. (it also sits considerably more that six people and can be shoved together like a giant playpen for ??!! :O] )
