- there really is no way of telling but you do have to have at least 3 litters 4 is recommended You need to how ever get that cat smell out of the sofa to avoid them doing it again, at least it wasn't urine tho that would have been worse. Just about any super store will have the right chemicals for you. Even if you can't smell it cats probably still can specially if they know.

- I have used a rug doctor before with an upolstery attachment. Worked miracles! You can rent them at most grocery stores, home improvement stores and pet stores. Resolve also makes a new cleaner for fabrics you can't just throw in the wash. SUpposedly you spray it on and it cleans as it dries. I've never used it so I can't attest to its effectiveness.

- Q: We have a fabric-type sofa. We have 2 dogs. One sleeps on there as much as she can!!! She's a Choc. Lab so a larger dog. She gets the sofa smelling!I plan on taking a carpet cleaner to it to get it clean.How can I protect it from smells? - Q: I have a twin bed with a trundle underneath for a spare room. The room will primarily serve as an office and I would like to make the twin bed look more sofa-like unless I'm using for company.Any ideas on what kinds of pillows to use on a twin bed (the frame is black but you can barely see it - it has no decorative metal or wood or anything) to turn it into a sofa?
- I used a twin bed as a sofa when I first moved into my house. What I did was get a king/queen sheet and fitted it to the bed(I sewed it up so that it looked like a big cushion.) Then I added two body pillows. The couch was against two walls so the pillows rested against the walls. On the other small side I put a roll pillow like an arm rest.

- White vinegar neutralizes the odors of cigarettes. You do not need to use it as a liquid cleaner, either. We put about 1 of white vinegar into a bowl and place the bowl in the room(s) that smell bad from smoke. Leave the bowl there until the smell is gone. We do it after mother-in-law leaves – she's a chain smoker. Works great! I would try making a large plastic 'tent' over the sofa. Remove the cushions to allow more surface area and then put bowls of vinegar under the tent. I see no reason why this would not work.
