- Q: I was wondering how to make a simple slip cover for a regular metal folding chair.
- For the back of the chair, try a pillowcase on it and see how it fits. What tucks do you have to make? Then try it on the seat. What type cover did you want? A full cover so you don't see the legs? You did not say. I would cut up a sheet, in fact you could use sheets if you do not want to invest in upholstery type fabric. They are washable too. Try a piece on the seat, let it hang to the floor in front, and extend up over the back of the chair until it reaches the floor below. Then you could sew the two backs together till it comes to the seat, stop there. Then you need to sew a piece to each side down to the floor. Then sew up the corners. Hem the bottoms and put a bow or Velcro fastener to the back of the seat corner, or pin it and then sew it, but you have to leave a little room so you can slip it on and off.
- Q: When my mom was a toddler, she had a rocking chair. When I was a toddler, it was my chair. My little sister never used it because she never stayed over at our grandma's house, where it was kept. When I was a little older, it was my dolls' chair. Now my sister has a son, and my mom wants to give her the chair for him. I dont begrudge my nephew anything, but his mom never learned to take care of things--she breaks everything she touches. Plus I had wanted to give it to my own kids someday. So what do you think? Whose chair is it?
- Yours, you used it a lot more. Just tell your mom that you want to give it to your future kids.
- Q: I have a padded computer chair which the seat part has now been flattened (due to much use) and is no longer comfortable. Doe anybody know any way to fix this at home? or can recommend any places where i could get it repaired? The chair was about $200 so anything more expensive to repair it would be a waste. Thanks :)
- You may be able to reupholster it yourself depending on the chair and whether you can take it apart. The seat was put together in pieces so there should be some way to take it apart. Unless you are handy this might be a challenge and depending on how your chair is constructed this could end up being a problem. Reupholstering might be half your purchase price but I'd check with a local upholsterer. There are seat cushions that you can purchasing in stores like Target, if you go to the section where they have tablecloths/napkins/linens. They are premade and designed to work on wood chairs and are about 1-2 thick. You could also go to the outdoor furniture section and look for seat cushions - those would be a lot thicker, designed for outdoor furniture. A less refined option would be getting some foam from a fabric store and cut it to size to fit the chair, then cover it with fabric.
- Q: Which do you prefer? This would be for a dining set in cast aluminum that looks like wrought iron and would be used on a wooden deck (not a patio). I like the look of dining chairs (i.e., with legs) because I prefer a traditional style with my old house, but I'm wondering if swivel chairs would be more comfortable and practical on a deck (no legs to get caught in the cracks). Opinions?
- Yes I have a swivel chair, and yes I love to spin in my swivel chair. You need to get yourself a swivel chair, and spin around in one yourself.
- Q: I heard they just announced a chairs match coming soon and I wonder what's a chairs match. Is it like No DQ?
- Its basically a match where you can use chairs.
- Q: My husband has become addictd to fishing in free time recently. Yesterday he told me the chair he is using is not comfortable and asked me to buy him a new one. I search for a while, and found chairs with a cup holder look awesome
- I don't know if it is sturdy, but it's ok for fishing.
- Q: I can snowboard perfectly fine down the slopes, I have no problem with balance or turning or anything like that. But every single time I get off of a chair lift I eat s**t. I try and do everything the people tell me, I even got a grip on my board but my boots slips right off, and my board is shiny which again makes it super slippery. I have tried putting my foot against the back binding but again my foot just slips out of position as soon as my board touches down on the snow ramp thing.! In the end I had to ask the guy to stop the chair lift and let me off so I didnt injury myself some more. Please help we are going up again in a few weeks and I dont wanna stack every time. Thanks any help is appreciated.
- Try halfway sticking your boot in the straps like how someone wears a shoe while stepping on the heel part, wearing it like a slipper. Try to hook your free foot on some loop (probably the backstrap). One thing that'll really help is if you tighten your front foot(the one that's strapped in)'s ankle muscles, that'll make the back more rigid and easier to work with. You could also try to lean backwards a little, so that you have more weight on the back foot, planting it in place. While riding up the lift, right before, knock off excess snow so that you decrease chance of slipping. Good luck.
- Q: I have an office chair someone gave me and I am trying to get a musty smell out of it, is this possible? I was going to put it outside to air it out. Any other suggestion?
- Sprinkle baking soda all over the chair. Baking soda is a natural deoderizer, is safe for pets, humans and the environment, and is incredibly inexpensive. Allow it to sit outdoors for a few hours. Then, vacuum the baking soda off the chair. It will have absorbed all of the odor.
- Q: I have this really greata office chair that my neighbor was just oging to through out... it has some tears in it ...and i am unsure of how to go about fixing it. the material isn't close enough to stitch... my mom suggested getting a peice of fabric to cover it and stitch that to the chair...i honestly dont care about the looks just that i dont ruin it more... would a regualr needle and thread hold against leather if i just put a peice over it...
- As a professional upholsterer I can tell you there is NO easy and effective way to patch/repair leather. There are a lot of repair kits available that promise miracle cures but they will at best do nothing and at worst damage the leather further. Since you don't care about the appearance of the chair, simply remove the damaged leather and replace it. Leather is expensive so you might consider some type of cloth or vinyl. Cloth is softer and more comfortable and will last longer than vinyl, but is easily stained. Vinyl is cheaper than a good grade of cloth and easier to keep clean, but is hot and sticky in the summer and cold and stiff in the winter. This leads to cracks in the vinyl and tears in the seams. This means vinyl will not last as long as cloth. If you do decide to recover the chair then know that no matter what kind of chair it is you can cover it without sewing!!! If it has sewn corners you can replace the sewn seams with creative folding. Place the new material on the chair and simply fold the corners. If anyone you know can wrap Christmas presents they can do this. Once you have the folds right attach that corner to the chair. This works best with cloth. First attach all 4 sides with staples or tacks leaving corners loose. Then do corners. Be sure to stretch the material tight to avoid any wrinkles. Hope this helped. Good luck.
- Q: i am considering getting one and am wondering if we can play my surround sound while using the game chair with a dvd player, tv, xbox. Or do we just have to listen to movies from the game chair speakers
- Depending on the particular chair you get, and what you actually want to do, the answer is going to vary. Most gaming chairs I've seen at least support stereo audio via the red/white RCA cables. So what you could do is connect your devices to the surround sound system as normal, then run a pair of the red/white RCA cables from the Receiver's 2nd room outputs. I don't know if your receiver has this feature or not, but it would allow you to have the receiver playing audio through its speakers and your chair at the same time. Another option would be to connect the RCA audio cables directly to the device in question. You'll need a set of long cables for this, and maybe a male-male adapter plug (you can get these from Radio Shack.) Another way would be to get a cheap A/V switch (the type for composite video) and just plug your audio cables into that, then plug the chair into the switch. Most devices can output an audio signal on all their outputs at once so this shouldn't be a problem.
