- The majority of office chairs tend to be fitted with gas lifts that have a tapered body that locates and wedges into a matching tapered hole in the base. This is what's called an interference fit and the two become locked together. Depending on how old the chair is it can be quite difficult to separate them. Try spraying the joint with some WD40 or easing oil, let it soak in and then turn the chair on its side and use a rubber mallet to tap firmly on the top of each leg of the base and hopefully they'll come apart. If the chair has a plastic base take care not to hit it too hard or you may crack the base.

When coming up with your country theme colors you can always purchase two extra chairs, inexpensive straight backs and paint them and leave them against the walls when not entertaining. I also have a country home, and chose colors in the red family. When i completed the painting of the room, I picked the darkest color i had used, and went about 4 shades even darker to paint the chairs. They turned out beautiful, that people ask me where i got such a great dining room set.

- Unscrew the chair bottom and turn upside down on top of your fabric. Lift edge of fabric over chair edge and see how much it takes to be able to staple to the bottom. Cut fabric around chair bottom that much. staple middle of front....pull fabric tight and staple middle of back. Do the same thing on the sides and continue stapleing and pulling fabric. Do the same thing for the seat back.

- Q: i am painting the inside of my condo, and i had an idea, but i am not sure if it works or not. from our couch, directly across on the other wall is the tv, to the right of it is the stairwell to the 2nd floor, so you can see it from the couch. i was thinking of painting the wall that the TV is on (which is a small wall) an accent color, and then, having a chair rail go up the stairwell, with that same accent color from the chair rail to the floor. I was wondering if i need to get a thin chair rail to do this , so it doesnt look too wierd 6 - 8'' above the railing. does this even sound like an idea that could work? HELP!
- Actually, what you are creating is a wainscotting and yes the idea will look lovely. Step back from the stair case, can you see through the railing? How large is the banister and railings? This will optically tell you the size of chair rail thickness you will need. If the banister is bulky, use a larger chair rail to balance it and so that visually it rises just above the height of the bannister to add bulk and so that you don't use a size that disappears against it. By using the same color up the stairs that you use on the TV wall, you are anchoring that end of the room which will give it more presence. Great project, sounds fun!

- I play the flute, a. I play Monday through Friday for an hour with my school band, and about 30 minutes to an hour most evenings. b. Proper posture is to have both feet flat on the floor while sitting on the edge of the seat with a straight back. c. I prefer to stand when I'm playing by myself, because it makes breathing easier. d. If I have to hold my instrument up for a while, my arms ache, but it's nothing too major. e. The worst part about being a flute player is having to adjust for space and trying to hold the instrument around the chair. So we're constantly shifting, trying to get comfortable. f.
