- Q: The serpentine belt in my car came off somehow and I found it in the driveway (this was a few days after it had been replaced) and my dad told me to drive my car to the automotive place without it and if it overheated just to pull over, let it cool, and then keep going. it did overheat and I pulled over, but called AAA and had them tow me, now the guy fixing my car told me my alternator bearings have failed, and that it wasn't like that when he did the belt before. Was this from the drive there? or from something else?
- Your alternator bearings would have failed before and is possibly why the belt came off in the first place. Driving the car without a belt is not the best way to prolong it's life you should have had the job done before you went driving around, but with luck no lasting damage would have been done.

- Yeah, I almost succeeded in losing a wheel this way. Drove it for 2 days after it started making noise, and by the end of the second day on my way home from the parts store, it set itself up a real nice roar. Pulled in the driveway with steering going all over the place... when I jacked the car up that wheel was so loose it felt like it had no lug nuts! Took it apart only to find out the only thing holding it together was the remnants of the bearing and a flat washer that goes behind the nut! The inner bearing race had actually welded itself to the spindle, but thankfully I was able to save and repair the spindle, so all I had to replace was just the bearings and races, along with new nut and washers. Never gonna let that happen again... so lucky that thing didn't go flying off and cause me or another driver to wreck.

- This will vary from bike to bike, but: At least 2 main bearings in the engine 2 for each piston Usually 2 for camshaft, may be plain bushings At least 2 for each shaft in transmission 2 or 3 for each wheel 2 for steering head 2 for swingarm, may be plain bushings several for suspension linkage, may be plain bushings

- Yeah first answer is pretty good. Just take em out of the wheel, wipe them down with a cloth to get rid of any loose dirt and such, and then spray lightly with some WD40 - But dont use windex or ant other glass cleaner - this will make you go slower. I've often found if I don't have any WD40 I can just use Start Ya Ba5tard and that works fine.

- Very simple...On 4x4 models this is not just bearings...It is sold as a hub and bearing assembly,just get the correct torque specs from the dealer,when putting on the new nut...The new nut is sold only at the dealership,they are $14 each,DO NOT REUSE THE OLD ONES---VERY DANGEROUS. Remove tire and brake caliper hold down bracket. Remove old nut from hub. pull off old hub replaced hub with new replace old nut with new torque to dealer secs. replace caliper hold down bracket replace rim DONE!! 4x2 models are easier then this,they are just a inner and outer bearing...Make sure to replaced the bearing race also. Same steeps as above accept with a inner and outer bearing.
