- The ABEC number is meaningless. It relates to high speed vibration in tools like routers (equivalent to 190 mph). Some of the best bearings designed for skating (top end of the Bones, Twin Cam, and Zero Drag brands) do not meet any of the ABEC standards so that they can have clearances to roll better for skating. There really is very little difference in bearing speed (once you have the same lubricant in all of them being compared) at hockey speeds. Life is where the better brands show up but unless you are in wet or extremely dirty areas (not likely while you are playing hockey), they should easily outlive several sets of wheels. Find a bearing that you like and trust, then stick with it. I happen to like Zero Drag.

- Q:My Escape started making a noise at about 35,000 miles. At the time the dealership said it was the tires. I replaced the tires. The noise did not change at all and now has progressively worsened and now they are telling me the right, left AND center wheel bearings need to be replaced (at my expense since now the car has 42,000 miles). They did say the bearings are still sealed and there is no water damage and no other obvious damage. I think they must be defective and Ford should replace them as from what I understand it would be very unlikely for all 3 to just go out at 35,000 miles. I'd like to know if Ford has addressed this problem for anyone else and also if anyone has any ideas on how to make Ford provide the parts and repairs at no cost to me.

- Hydraulic oil is not designed for cleaning, nor is any oil. Use a solvent like denatured alcohol. Lube the bearings with a skateboard bearing lube. The base for hydraulic oil is mineral oil. It evaporates too quickly and the additives can leave a residue that attract dirt and may damage the crown and shield in the bearings and the wheels.

- Well if they still work, why are you gonna buy new ones? I wouldn't buy new ones unless they get caught, or I totally bust it out. But if you buy new ones you will definitely feel a difference. New bearings are smoother faster and overal more comfortable.
