- Q: Last night we found our basement carpet soaked after a rainstorm---there was not standing water (until we pulled up the carpet and padding), but it was set enough to squish when you walk, etc. We pulled up the carpet and threw away the padding. We've been trying to dry it out with a fan, but it doesn't seem to be helping. What steps should we take to save the carpet? We really can't afford to replace it right now. Also, we live in Colorado, and there is almost no humidity. Thanks!
- use a carpet cleaner to extract the water let it finish drying after extracting all the water you can then just shampoo it as you normally would
- Q: A pen broke open on the carpet and without my knowledge, my dad went and sprayed rubbed it with Windex which I'm pretty sure it made it worst. I looked online and tried using hairspray and vinegar water but it hardly helped. Should I try nail polish remover or baking soda? Please help!
- Try nail polish remover, Warning it will look worst before it gets better!!! What I do is get nail polish and paper, towels cotton balls etc...and pour so nail polish remover then dab dab dab....throw cotton balls away when they are used up and get a new one...it will take a while but it should work...
- Q: Installer told me floors need conditioning and rugs may leave marks due to the sun.
- Like the others said the wood may color naturally around the rugs due to the sun, but another HUGE concern is the rubber backing on most rubber backed carpets is that they can react with the finish on the wood and ruin the wood. The use of special matts under the rug can be used to prevent this. There are a couple types of these thin anti slip rug matts . You must get the one made for wood flooring. They also allow the wood to breathe. Any questions yo can e mail me through my avatar. GL
- Q: I have a very large area rug. It has lots of browns blacks. I want to lighten it sum how dye a medium-dark blue. But I may have to dye black. I like the rug it just doesn't go with my sons room decor. Please Help. Any information is appreciated. Thanks!
- Hi There is two ways to remove wax from carpet. 1/ Use the edge of a butter knife to carefully scrape off or lift up as much solid wax as you can .Use a dry clean white terrycloth place it over the wax spot then heat it with a iron on low setting because most homes have polyester carpet, and if the iron gets too hot, it'll melt the carpet. Keep checking the spot every ten seconds or so, moving the terrycloth so that a clean spot is on the carpet. 2/ Which is the better way. Use the edge of a butter knife to carefully scrape off or lift up as much solid wax as you can Heat up a full kettle of water and pour it slowly on the carpet at the same time with a wet vac vacuum up the water. Keep on doing this until the wax is removed. From a carpet cleaner of 14 years
- Q: I recently moved house and my real fix fur rug isn't large enough to cover the floor in my room, so my question if, if I go and kill some foxes tonight, how do I skin them and how do I attach the skins to the rug without making it obvious where i have sewn them on?Also, what shall I do with the remains, is fox edible?
- Yes fox is edible... but save the brain. Tanning a hide is a skill that requires practice. I can tell you how but I suggest practicing on something you don't plan to have every guest at your house have a look at. Also some sewing skill would be needed to mend the two rugs together, and foxes aren't large animals so more than one will almost definitely be needed. To tan a hide: Skin the animal at the leg and stretch the skin out very taunt. You will need a tool for scraping ( something sharp but rounded enough not to tear the hide). While the hide is stretched, scrap of the epidermis of the skin with your tool (on the side without fur obviously). Its important to keep the hide wet during this process. Keep a bucket of water nearby to wet it down with. After the hide dries from anywhere from a day or a week (still stretched) untie it and cut it to the size you need it. Now rinse it in a mixture of a half - a whole gallon of water and the foxes own brains (yes, the brains). Rinse, wring it out, rinse again. Over and over and over until your tired. Next stretch the skin out some. Give it a tug with a partner to loosen it up. Then you have to smoke the skin with a dark smoke (most likely from old rotten wood). This will cause the white skin to tan (hence, tanning the hide). Tan the fir side as well but no where near as much as the inside of the skin. Once its a golden brown you can sew it onto your first rug. Whew lol. This is just the general jist of tanning a hide. There are many other methods that I don't know about. - Q: Hi,I am a tenant and had a leakage from a dishwasher. now carpet is wet and smelly.around 1 square meter is the carpet area affected. I told the landlord about it. My question is should I remove the carpet myself in the meantime just to prevent mould from building up?As long as I took pictures I am safe doing it if landlord does not send someone to fix within say 48 hours?Regardless, is it not the best thing to do anyway - remove the wet section and put in garbage until they come to install new carpet? is trying to dry and clean it instead an option?THANKS
- If you have access to a wet dry vac, then there is no need to remove/replace carpet.
- Q: My female Tabby kitten almost 1 year always licks the carpet. Why and what should i do about this to make her stop?
- Have you used anything new on the carpet? She may just like the feeling of it on her tongue. I know it sounds pretty funny but its true. Does she lick any particular place? Just investigate, and watch your cat. If it really bothers you, try calling up your vet.
- Q: I have a candle that dripped wax on a carpet so what is the easiest way to remove it from my carpet?
- scrape with a putty knife. get 95% of it off. then boiling water and a rag.
- Q: Our cat pees on our rug and we don`t know why. The main part is we can`t get the smell of the rug. We have this huge piece of tinfoil and it says that he would be scared of it and not even walk on it but he walks right over and starts biting at it. Now that the tinfoil is there he won`t pee on the tinfoil but he finds a new spot on the rug. We spray this stuff on the rug that we got from our vet but it would take like 10 bottles of it to take the pee smell off. Is there anything that you tried that takes up smell our anything you think is good to use? We are thinking off letting him be an outdoor cat so he will pee out there but we are not sure. We also have a we also have one of those squirt bottles that we filled up with water so if we catch him then we can squirt him. But we still need help!
- If your cat isnt using the litterbox or cant seem to hold its urine to get to the litterbox in time than I think seeing a vet is necessary to rule out any medical issues like urinary tract infection. If your cat is not fixed that could be the other reason, so as long as your cat is healthy enough getting fixed should solve that issue.
- Q: ok so the other day i came home and these 2 guys were in my apartment. they claimed that i owed their boss some money, and i was very shaken up but after it was obvious I wasn't the guy they were looking for, they left- but one of them peed on my rug which was a really good rug.
