- After Harlee started in the one spot, the smell will cause her to keep going in that spot. (I've tried home remedies, but this was much more effective and easy.) There are carpet cleaning formulas with enzymes available at either pet stores or Walmart (in the cleaning section). This is just poured into the rug and left wet to air dry. It will take care of the smell and the cat will not return to that spot. As for Harlee, she may have smelled something offensive to her little nose and had a fit, but she may also have a medical issue. I might be worth a vet visit to have her checked out.
- Q: Do I Put the floor base moulding in before or after I carpet.. It would make sense to do it before because after to patch up the nail holes and repaint it you dont have to worry about getting paint on the carpet but it wont looks as large as the carpet would cover up a portion of it.. - Go ahead and put your molding on first. If you are concerned about it part of it being covered up raise it off the floor a little less than the thickness of what your pad and carpet will be.

- I took mine outside and washed it on an area where I have gravel. A deck would be good also. Try using some bleach and water to lighten it. Rince very well. I put liquid rit dye in a garden sprayer with Hot water and 1/2 cup salt and sprayed the carpet. I waited a couple of hours and mixed up another batch and sprayed it again. After it was somewhat dry I layed it over the fence to dry.

- The crayon idea will not work and you will ruin your iron. The rug is ruined. Sometimes we mess things up but trying to hide it from your parents, landlord or the owner is not a good idea. Admit your mistake and offer to work off the cost of replacing it.

- I have never heard of the tenant changing the carpet. Usually the apartment complex will look at and assess the carpet to determine if it can be cleaned to a reasonable degree. This is done after you have moved everything out and handed in your keys. If the carpet is older than six years (at least in my complex) when the renter is moved out then it is automatically replaced, saving whatever we can for patches in other apartments such as flood damage or burn holes. I recommend having a professional carpet cleaning company with a truck mounted steam cleaner come and give you their assessment on the carpet. Ask them if they think they can get the carpet clean. If not, don't have them do it, as you will be wasting your time and money. As far as the carpet replacement goes, depending on your location ( I'm located in the Midwestern United States) You can figure on about $10.00 a square yard, depending on the installers agreement with the complex and the quality of the carpet and pad it could be a little more or a little less, but $10.00 is a pretty safe estimate.. This is then deducted from you deposit check before it is sent to you. If the carpet is in reasonable condition then you are not charged anything for the automatic steam cleaning that takes place when a tenant moves out. GOOD LUCK!!!
