- Q: We just bought a ranch style home in florida, it has a tan tile, more like shingle roof. I want to update the look, it is an old house, the colors it has now gray with black trim all over make the house look depressing and dingy. I haven't seen too many ranch style homes with a tan roof, so I'm just wondering what colors would go best? It also has a stucco surface, and there is a black iron fence with red brick that goes all around the house. It's out in a country like area, so I want to stay true to it's roots.
- Great colors, but I think I would use a burgandy door or barn red instead. Shutters might look nice with same color as door. Good luck! It'll turn out nice.
- Q: Does anyone know how to make home made bricks???
- The only thing I can think of is to go to your local Ace, Home Depot, or Lowe's hardware and home/gardening stores and ask them. I bet one of them have a cement like mixture you can use. Otherwise, you have to go out to a lake, find mud, lay it out, cut it, and dry it for about a week with a mixture of manure and a binding agent. Probably easier to go to the hardware store.
- Q: What are the easiest Orchids to grow in home garden??
- Typically they are only grown in green houses. Remember they are tropical plants so unless you live in a tropical region, you can have problems.
- Q: Which direction should buddha statue face in home or garden?
- That one you got me. Do you keep your toilet lid closed? Have a living plant to your right in the main entry way?... Check on the net about feng shui. Glad someone else believes in it. My previous neighbor is from Taiwan taught me a lot. I moved to a small town in Texas look at me like I'm crazy
- Q: I keep my turtles in a pin next to my vegetable garden and haven't worried about the possibility of getting sick until the recent jalapeno scare.
- You say, “Could?” If they are water turtles – and you have fed them raw meat or chicken that was infected with the bacterium – there is a possibility of cross contamination. If they defecate on the soil in which the vegetables are growing – and their stool is contaminated – the possibility exists. Or if there is run-off from the water they swim in – and the water is contaminated – the possibility exists. Or if you use their swimming water (literally their toilet) to water your plants – the possibility exists – IF THERE IS CONTAMINATION from Mr. and Mrs. Sal Monella. If you keep them in a “pen” and they are land turtles you are feeding fruits, vegetables and whatever insects/worms they can find – the chances are highly UNLIKELY and I wouldn’t worry.

- Q: please send me links to easy and cheap home-made water features for my garden. Thank you!
- I have seen several water bogs. these are areas that have rocks with a liner of some sort like a trap with no holes under the rocks. dig a small square, round, rectangle area, just deep enough that you can place the rocks down and then fill the liner up with water. The water can be over the rocks or just to the side of them. Just depends on what effect you are looking for. If you are wanting a higher layer effect do the same procedure but get rocks you can stack on top of one another and purchase a pump and hose the length of the height to your pile. All of my rocks I have gotten by walking county line roads or dirt roads. Visit a rock quarry too can get you some really neat rocks as well. Draw up what you want your rock fountain to look like and then go hunting for your rocks. If you have a family make it an outting and have fun with it. Good Luck!!!
