- Q: I am starting a garden this fall with berry bushes and leafy greens. I have been doing a bunch of reasearch because I have never had a garden before and some of my plants are prone to bugs and fungus. I want my garden to be as organic as possible so I don't want chemical spray. Anyone know any good homemade concoctions I can make to help? Thanks =D
- Fungi are encouraged by too much water and inadequate air circulation. Allow plenty of breathing room between plants and row. Put mulch down around the plants. We use newspapers (5-6 sheets thick) and composted grass clippings. Will act as a weed barrier AND keep the moisture in the soil and will offer some protection for the plants/veggies. Feed the birds, encourage them to live in your yard with food, water and places to live. Nearly all baby birds are fed on bugs and many species eat bugs right along with the seeds. And some only eat bugs. The more birds, the better! They will do the dirty work for you! And the link below will help you deal with issues as they come up.
- Q: if your answer is quot;kill it,quot; tell me how and with what.
- They are called catapults for a reason :o) I don't kill them, I persuade them it is less painful to in somebody else's garden.
- Q: I saw a wonderful thistle today in the park: tall (taller than me, at least 6'9 or maybe even more), strong, leafy, with huge mauve flowers and these dewy leaves. A common thistle. I am in love. So, I wondered: what is the best way to grow the same-like, big, tall, strong thistle on my garden patch? I have nothing against little thistles, but I'd like mine tall. Please, give me the tips, especially from your personal experience. And I would have preferred it to be organic, or, if it's not possible, nearly so. What should I do?
- how okorder /...maybe Shaw. it is scottish for the guy who lives by the thicket. the scottish people adopted the thistle as their sign when it alarmed them to an attack by pricking the guys sneaking up on them and making them yell.
- Q: I would like to turn my smallish summerhouse in the garden into a recording studio for myself because i would love to play around with music and record my own music. How much would the software, other bits and pieces i would need, microphone all come to? and would it be possible to wire it all up and then when i wanted to go out there connect my laptop to the cables. seems all far fetch to me, but could be possible.
- I think you could do this with a high-spec laptop - a MAC would probably be better to be honest. You can record multi-tracks with free software audacity: www.cassette2cd .uk/DIY/vocal.p... ...but maybe something along the lines of PRO-TOOLS or CUBASE if you want something a bit more professional. However I would save your money for a couple of decent microphones: www.cassette2cd .uk/studio/stud... Yes, it's all possible - I would recommend linking up with some audio recording forums and see what others are saying who have done this themselves... How much you spend is entirely up to you - you could do it now with audacity software and a cheap mic, on the other hand there is no upper limit to how much you could spend! I would recommend adding a half-way decent speaker system to your laptop for monitoring - don't 'mix' using headphones, that would be a very big mistake! My final recommendation is that the best type of mic for recording onto a laptop is a USB condenser mic (see link below) - with a half-tidy laptop and a decent mic, all you will need is a bit of talent!!
- Q: I'm just looking for monthly updates and stuff on new ideas for my home. Not really garden ideas so much. Any magazines or the like that send out free issues that you know of? Thanks.
- google free home and garden magazines.
- Q: If you had to pick would it be home or garden?
- The garden but with no weeds
- Q: grown by people at homes in their patios or gardens?
- 1) In homes, patios or gardens people in Spain can grow many Citrus fruits like we do. Dwarf varieties that are protected from cold in winter. 2) Spain is the main E.U producer of tropical and subtropical fruit and the only country on the continent itself currently capable of growing them. As consolidated crops, Spain produces avocados (over 10,000 ha planted, yielding some 70,000 t/year), bananas (production restricted to the Canary Islands; around 9,500 ha, of which some 3,000 are under greenhouse, yielding 420,000 t/year), and cherimoyas (roughly 3,000 ha and 33,000 t/year). Mangos (almost 1,400 ha) and papaya (around 200 ha, practically all under greenhouse) show great potential for future development. Pineapple is steady at around 75 ha, both in open air and greenhouse plantations and, again, limited to the Canary Islands. Experimental plantings of litchi show good prospects. Minor crops under evaluation include carambola and guava. A review of the actual situation, problems and prospects, as well as the main lines of research, is highlighted in this paper.
- Q: OK so I decided to try out some mulch for my home garden where I'm growing okra and squash.I decided to just take some grass clipping from when I cut the grass the other day and just kinda spread it around and what not.Is this a good mulch? If not, what's something I could use? This is a very simple garden, being it's my 1st.It's about 10 ft long and 2.5 ft wide.It has no hill, meaning it's just flat dirt.I've got about 8 or so squash and about 15 or so okra.Yes, I'm aware that I will more than likely have to be getting of or transplanting some of the squash to make room.
- Almost all plant matter will serve as a mulch. The only issue with grass clippings is that they can sometimes clump together and form a mat (good for stopping weeds, bad for letting water in). So just check it every now and then
- Q: My mom used to make banana pudding I've lost the recipe..I know it's milk, eggs, sugar vanilla, but that's all.thanksx
- Ingredients 1/3 cup all-purpose flour Dash of salt 2 1/2 cups 1% low-fat milk 1 (14-ounce) can fat-free sweetened condensed milk 2 large egg yolks 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 3 cups sliced ripe banana, divided 45 reduced-fat vanilla wafers, divided 4 large egg whites (at room temperature) 1/4 cup sugar Preparation Preheat oven to 325°. Combine flour and salt in a medium saucepan. Gradually add milks and yolks; stir well. Cook over medium heat 8 minutes or until thick, stirring constantly. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla. Arrange 1 cup banana slices in bottom of a 2-quart baking dish. Spoon one-third of pudding mixture over banana. Arrange 15 wafers on top of pudding. Repeat layers twice, arranging the last 15 wafers around edge of dish. Push cookies into pudding. Beat egg whites at high speed of a mixer until foamy. Gradually add sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, beating until stiff peaks form. Spread meringue evenly over pudding, sealing to edge of dish. Bake at 325° for 25 minutes or until golden. Note: Banana Pudding may be a bit soupy when you first remove it from the oven. Let cool at least 30 minutes before serving.
- Q: Mine is an old Victorian home out in the country. 5 bed rooms, 3 bathrooms, hardwood floors and a fireplace. I'd turn the basement into an entertainment area (I have this thoroughly planned out) big drop down screen for an in home theater and also a wet bar. The backyard would have a magnificent garden that I could walk around with a glass of wine.how about you??
- It is Dad's house in Cumbria (it used to be our family holiday home until Mum he divorced). It is almost perfect. That is why I still have a bedroom there and stay every verse end.
