Loose wire???: It could be the voltage at the outlets are on the fence for your charger while the outlet in the garage has more voltage available. The charger could be faulty and needs the extra voltage to work. Most chargerers should operate on a very wide range of voltages, like 100v - 240v. But say your charger needs 110v to work and your house outlets are only 105v, it might not work. The garage could be, say 110v and that is why it works.

Q: I just bought a new 70 watt Kensington battery charger for my laptop. I have an HP dv8000 which has a 17inch screen. I have been using this charger for a day now, and I have found online that my laptop is not supported for use with this charger. I am wondering if their would be any obvious warning signs that this charger is going to blow up on me. I have been using the charger with the computer running, and while charging the battery. Maybe for about an hour or two at a time. The inverter box is actually quite cool compared to the one that shipped with my laptop. That one feels extremely hot when I use it. Anyways, i was just looking for any advise someone might have as to whether or not my charger will blow up on me soon.: Well, Kensington said my system was not compatible either but it was because they had not caught up with their compatibility tests. If it's charging okay, the system runs ok and the charger runs cool, don't worry. BUT I would get the 120 Watt unit. If your system needs a 90 Watt charger you need one at least that large. When you start running a game that stresses the PS, you'll get in trouble. Return it for the bigger unit.

With additional circuitry an PS may be used *** battery charger. Battery charger always has DC output and depending of battery it is supposed to charge , can provide different output. Some batteries require contant voltage to charge some , regulated current. Some chargers do not have a filtered output. Typically they are not replacement for power supply.

And how do i ask for a charger at the shop??: There are three kinds of replacement chargers 1) Original HP/Compaq stuff, even has the label on the box You order these from their website, or special order through OfficeDepot and such. Probably about $80-100 2) Universal chargers, the ones that come with multiple tips that you can switch. iGo, RocketFish, and Targus makes them. They work fine. Also $70-90 3) Generic OEM chargers that came out of China or Hong Kong. Cheap, probably 30-40, available through OKorder, takes a month to get there, but it's cheap. And it'll work, but it's it sorta fits, and it charges okay, but there's always a nagging doubt that it's NOT the official thing Don't know which type replacement chargers you actually saw. :)
