- Q: i want to re carpet my bedrooms, where could i find carpet besides a carpet shop?
- Cassy, if you want new carpet then you will have to go to a carpet store. Some of the larger companies have end of line run out sales for carpets that they are replacing with a new pattern or colour so it's always worth asking, you might get last years carpet at a bargain. You could also look at some auction houses for carpet bargains. If you are okay with second hand carpet then have a look at some of the trader newspapers, we have trading post here in Melbourne and they are online too, Australia wide I think on the net. Some people will sell their old carpet when replacing it so check around. Also, you could contact some carpet installers because they are always ripping out old carpet when laying down new stuff. Ask them what they do with the carpet they are getting rid of. They might onsell it somewhere if it's in good shape. You can always jump on line and google 'second hand carpet'. I got a few hits when I did this so you might find something in your area.
- Q: My rug has been shedding and I have vacuumed it 100's of times and steam cleaned it. Is there anything I can do to stop the shedding? It is positively driving me CRAZY!! Any suggestions PLEASE
- I have to say it is time to pitch that rug even though it may be a favorite. It sounds like this rug has been a great one for you. It's just seen its better days to be sure. Have you thought of looking in a store catalog for one like it again or a similar one? Also you could write the company if you know the name...and find out where you can get another one. Check out the Internet also.
- Q: How do you uncurl an edge of an oriental rug?
- Pull it out flat and lay a heavy book on it for a few days. If you dont have a heavy book, lay a towel over the rug and put a brick on the towel. This will uncurl the edge and wont damage the rug.
- Q: For use in a carpet cleaning machine.
- No need for any carpet cleaner just add two cups of White Vinegar to the cleaning tank your carpet will come clean deodorized and will be brighter looking no dulling residue left on carpet and the carpet is sanitized also removes pet odors Good Luck !
- Q: how often do u buy new carpet for ur house?my husband has never got new capet in this house since he has lived here. and the guy lived here before had the same carpet. I think it is a time for some new carpet. My husband lived here 5 years so far. so who know how long the guy before us had this carpet. how do i get my husband to buy new carpet? also we own the house
- For most households, five years is pushing it. Lighter colored carpets and those with house pets usually go faster. Normal maintenance calls for thorough vacumning 1-2 times per WEEK along with bags/filters regularly replaced and then annually steam cleaned. People also fail to realize the health issues carpets can harbor, over time the culprit of allergies sinus irritation. One of the easiest things to show your pride of ownership is to change the carpet... it can be very inexpensive if you shop for remnants at a good local carpet store/outlet; avg $100-$200/room or $15/sq yard with new pad install. Take your room measurements, see what you can find (bring some sample clippings home to hubby if he's not interested)...you'll know for sure that it's time!
- Q: the corners of my rug keep bending and it alllways gets messed up and wrinkledin this middle. why does it do thatt=[
- Jenny is right about using a thin matt under the rug after you get the corners flat and the 1 st poster said to iron it.. If you try and iron any thing with nylon fibers you ll melt them and ruin the rug. So to answer you question, 1 st turn the rug over and place on a warm spot such as a heat register. You may need to do 1 corner at a time.Heat will relax the backing and help flatten it. Small weight on the corner ( such as a book or some magazines) help help too. You may want to even back roll it and warm it. This will flatten the corners out while its getting warm. Then use the matts recommended for you rug. There are matts for rugs over hard wood, over a hard surface and rugs over carpet. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar..GL
- Q: My parents bought our house two years ago. It was remodeled by the previous owners, and they cut a lot of corners just to sell the house faster. We were unaware of this when we bought it, and we soon found a bunch of mistakes. We have berber carpet in beige. I absolutely hate this carpet and so do my parents. We have three dogs and they track in mud sometimes. It is hard to clean. Plus, my dogs seem to think they can dig through our floors, so they unravelled the berber carpet outside my bedroom door. What is the best carpet for us? Something that cleans well, but is tough enough to last years? What colors do you recommend also? Thank you.
- Carpet is such a taste thing. I like level loop carpet (like most commercial carpet.) In fact, I like commercial carpet period, as long as it is made of nylon. IN your case, if you use commericial carpeting, make sure it is continuous backing that is water proof. Nylon will not stain, is very easy to clean with a steam extractor (buy one and keep it handy if you have doggies). The most important part is the water proof continuous backing...water cannot penetrate the backing and therefore, will not drag up dirt into the top when the carpet dries! Commercial carpeting is all moving towards squares that, when laid, look like a continuous carpet..the glue used makes it easy to remove and replace a square should it become badly damaged...no problems with the entire carpet! BUT it is expensive (and well worth the money)...figure about 30.00 a yard installed. No padding is used. Furniture does NOT have to be removed from the room. And it will last probably a lifetime under your wear/tear conditions. Install once and be done with it...therefore, choose a neutral tweed...biege with brown, black, gray, copper flecks will go with everything, anything in the future. Good luck, Goldwing
- Q: add a small amount of metal fiber in carpet is to
- So in order to prevent the electrification by friction and having fire, it can transfer the charge to the earth timely,in case of that, we need to add some stainless steel wire in the carpet: When people walk on the carpet and the stainless steel is a conductor, so the friction of soles and the carpet will produce electric charge: due to the electrification friction and stainless steel is a conductor, so it will produce more and more charge and easily cause fire if the charge does not transferred in time.
- Q: Can anyone give me some tips on how to get chocolate out of a beige carpet? I found a mysterious chocolate trail(most likely melty chocolate chips or Hershey's kisses) across my bedroom carpet. I don't really know how it got there-.-While we're on the subject...I also have a rather large shampoo stain(I didn't know shampoo STAINED carpet...but apparently it does?) and a some green nail polish spots on my floor. I know...I don't take very good care of my carpetgt;.lt;But it would be nice to have my floor looking a little fresher...Thanks in advance:)
- Treating any carpet stain depends on what your carpet is made of. If it's wool or another natural fiber, it will be harder to treat these stains. If it's synthetic (most wall-to-wall carpet falls into this category), you may have an easier time. A diluted solution of brake cleaner, which contains the same chemicals that professional dry cleaning incorporates, will work to remove most food stains. This is a nasty chemical, and you have to consider whether you want the fumes in your house -- but it will do the job better than off-the-shelf carpet cleaning products. Whatever solvent you try, the method is to blot up as much of the stain as you can, wet it (with water or a cleaning solution), and blot some more. Don't rub, as this will abrade the carpet fibers and work the stain in deeper. I would try plain water on the shampoo stain before anything else. For the nail polish on the floor -- depends on what kind of floor surface you are talking about. You might try applying a non-acetone nail polish remover *just* to the polish spot, with a Q-tip. Avoid using an acetone-based remover (will damage almost any surface). If your floor is vinyl or laminate (engineered faux wood), you may have better luck trying to gently scrape it off with a table knife. Finally, if you have wall-to-wall carpeting, a professional carpet steaming service is a pretty good buy for the kind of results you get (and the work you save yourself). Consider spending a couple hundred bucks and skipping all the work. Good luck!
- Q: I collect HAND MADE wool, silk, and cotton Carpets / Area Rugs from Iran (Persian Rugs like Qum silk prayer rugs that I display as a wall tapistry, plus floor rugs like Tabriz Kermanshah), Pakistan (Bukkhara)...so my question is what are the classical Turkish HAND MADE CARPETS callled (please no cheap Belgium machine made crap) and I've heards that they are sold at Instanbul's Old Bazzar (if I'm saying it right, and provide info on how to bargain with vendor)...please give description by NAME (generally carpets know by city/village), PATTERN (ex geometric, medallion in center), and COLORS if possible, thanksp.s. in the event I'm most likely to get Trolled at, YES I did say Persian Qum silk PRAYER rug, but NO I don't pray on it I'm not Muslim, it's just a breathtaking piece of art
