- Q: i want to knit or crochet a rectangular rug for my room not too big but not too small. ive looked on the internet but the ones i like are too hard and the rest are nothing but granny squares or look like over sized doilies =( please help me find classy yet kinda simple patterns.. pictures would help
- One of the problems with substituting other yarn for rug yarn is that rug yarn is generally more resilient because you need to be able to walk on it, however, I have done some latch-hook work and have found that chunky 16 ply yarns are similar in thickness to 6 ply rug yarn and are therefore a reasonable substitute. 3 or 4 strands of knitting yarn may also give you a similar thickness and may work for you purposes but won't have the same resilience as proper rug yarn.
- Q: I have purchased wool rugs which I really like but they have an odour and we have stepped on prickly objects that, when searched for, turn out to be similar to twigs (approx. an inch or more in length) or seeds woven into the wool. The rugs come from a very reputable rug importer that operates in the United States as well as Canada so I'm somewhat surprised at what appears to be poor quality and am considering returning them. Will I find this with all 100% wool handmade rugs? Does cleaning them make any difference?
- If your supplier is buying from village producers, then yes, there will be twigs and seeds in the wool. In a handmade rug, the wool is sheared from sheep that are wandering about and getting dirty. Although the wool will be combed/carded and probably scoured a little, it will not become 100% clean. Textile machinery and harsh chemicals are required to remove every bit of debris from the wool. A 100% wool rug with no debris in it will invariably be machine made. The smell is one of sheep..... again, if you buy heavily scoured, bleached wool the smell is not so strong. A good example of this that can be seen in most yarn stores is the Japanese-produced Noro yarn. It is moderately expensive but small twigs and grasses can still be found in the yarn.

- you might just try soap and water...even a little liquid detergent...not too much...it soaps up pretty quickly...i use an old wash cloth with a little water and then add the soap to it....keep rubbing..then add more water if its too soapy...hopefully it will come out....if it comes out to your liking then keep blotting the area with paper towels to absorb the moisture.......good luck what ever method you find...........
- Q: I am about to get a foal and a light horses. Which blankets/rugs do each of them need and why?
- Well since you didn't give any information as to where you are and what the weather is there we can't answer the question very well. I blanket my horse because I keep riding all winter. He gets sweaty from working and a wet horse can get sick. So I clip him to prevent the sweaty mess. As I have now removed all of his hair - he needs a blanket to keep him warm. If your horse is not working (foal) and he is stabled at night there is no reason to blanket the foal. If it is wet the horse needs protection, but their coats are warm and somewhat waterproof. It all depends, but remember that over blanketing can cause more problem than underblanketing. A too warm blanket can cause your horse to sweat and that is the last thing you want in the cold. - Q: Most of the powder carpet freshners have so much perfume in them they trigger a migraine and I can't use them. Not to mention they are pretty pricey for what you actually get. Is plain ole' Arm Hammer baking soda a good alternative? Any other suggestions for freshing carpet?
- Plain ole' Arm Hammer baking soda is the best! Sprinkle it on and let it set for at least a couple of hours and overnight would be great. Then vacuum well.....................Good Luck!

- if it is chemical fiber carpet, then brush it dry with a soft cloth and cut the fiber, and then use the hot steam smoked pure wool carpet for ten minutes. you could also cut off the fiber where is aspfalt with a knife.
