What I'd do is hold your cat closely in your arms, talking in soft tones and petting him/her then walk slowly to the chair, sit down with your cat still in your arms and just hold him for awhile, then let the chair slowly turn back and forth and just keep talking to him, holding him. After awhile he/she will be more curious than scared; then soon after that he/she will be leaving hair all over your chair and you will have to move him/her to use your computer (like I do!) lol. Truly!

- It's a second empire chair. Second empire style is from the period between 1865 - 1880 but it could also be a reproduction. It kind of looks like a reproduction from the picture but it's hard to tell without seeing it in the flesh so to speak. Value depends on so many things. If there a manufacturer name on the chair, what's the condition, etc. It depends what's making the legs wobbly. It can be dried out wood which shrinks the joints or something else.

- Q: My 18 month old son is a big tall boy. He has outgrown his Fisher Price Rainforest high chair. We tried a booster seat but he just gets right down. We tried the straps but they dig into his legs and tummy and he complains. I feel he still needs to be in a high chair that can sit up to the table. - I bought a wooden restaurant high chair at a local kids resale shop. You can buy them new at restaurant supply stores (like smart and final). Ikea also has a similar type chair, it is not as thick and sturdy, but it pushes up under the table and is also made of wood. I got one of those off of craigslist.

- I would definitely go with tung oil. It is very durable, waterproof and easy to apply. It just rubs on with a cloth. Low odor. dries quickly. About $7. a can. Enough for a couple of chairs. You can apply 3 or more coats if you wish. Wait for the proper dry time between coats. Each coat makes a more durable finish. I used Formby's tung oil over 25 years ago on an unfinished pine cabinet. I applied 2 or 3 coats. It has held up beautifully. I also used it on a refinished 100 year old+ oak buffet. The finish still looks like new and has remained waterproof for over 25 years.
