- Q: We recently got a leather recliner that rocks back and forth. My cat is terrified of it. She is scared of the sound as you sit in it (this will wake her up and she will sit bolt upright and stare at it) and she gets very freaked out when you rock in it but once you recline it back - that's it - she goes and hides. - Cats don't deal well with changes in their environment. And a new chair is a big change to a cat. The way it sounds and the way it smells. It will take some time but she will get used to it and stopping hiding. The important thing is to let her adjust in her own time. You might try taking something that she has slept on and rubbing it over the chair, then putting it in the seat for a while. This will transfer her scent onto the chair. I used to have a cat that would stop in the doorway of my apartment just because I'd moved one piece of furniture 2 inches. When he finally came inside he would have to go around and sniff everything before he'd settle down. I hope this helps.
- Q: I have a wood side chair that I am going to re-paint and re-cover to use with my desk. It is currently painted black and needs a paint job. I know spray painting is easiest to use, should I sand it first even for spray paint?
- Yes. You definitly need to sand it first. Especially since your chair is black! It will be hard to cover black up with white, whether the paint is spray or in a can. Sand your chair, and yes spray paint will be fine. With paint, or glossy stains it is hard to get paint to stay on something and not stick easily without sanding. Hope it works out for you!
- Q: I fell in love with a dining set I saw on Macy's website but it's a bit out of my reach. It has four different colored parson chairs: beige, deep orange, burnt and moss with a round glass table. I have been searching online to find these colors but I can't. It would be great if I could find these colors in parson chairs and then I could go look for a glass table anywhere else. Many online catalogs such as Horchow, Frontgate, Grandinroad or Home Decorators also offer parson chair slip covers as well. They also offer parson's chairs with choices of fabrics that might fit into your budget. Pottery Barn does this too. You may not find the exact colors you fell in love with at Macy's unless you recover yourself. But you can take a look and see what might work best for you. Macy's also offers a payment plan so if you really love the chairs, it's an option.
- Q: so its a really dumb question.. but i have this assignment for school. my teacher gave us the example of a desk (like one with the chair and table part connected). he said we have to decide whether the exhibit A (desk) is a table or a chair. we cant be in between, and we cant say its a desk. its either a chair or table. and we need to come up with a thesis and 3 supports for whichever side we choose...its actually really hard. help anyone??
- Well 1st I'd call it a desk,,,, with a chair attachment.... that is it's intended purpose to provide a smooth clean area for you to build do a puzzle assignments etc... anyway the way it is built proves it is to be a stationary item meaning it doesn't normally move, also it have a convienant shelf under the chair attachment
- Q: I have a padded computer chair which the seat part has now been flattened (due to much use) and is no longer comfortable. Doe anybody know any way to fix this at home? or can recommend any places where i could get it repaired? The chair was about $200 so anything more expensive to repair it would be a waste. Thanks :)

- Q: My friend has this folding papasan chair that I fell in love with. It would be great to have my own. She says the company that made it is Mainstays but from my searching, it would appear they do not make that kind of chair anymore. I'm finding it difficult to find any folding papasan chairs that are even close to the dimensions of hers, which are 36 inches high, 41 inches wide, and 37.5 inches deep. Does anyone know where I could get such a chair?

- Q: I have 2 pine log rocking chairs that are beautiful. I want to keep them that way but do not want to darken the wood. I've had alot of advise, from tung oil to linseed oil etc. I want the finish to be water proof as well. thanks!
- I would definitely go with tung oil. It is very durable, waterproof and easy to apply. It just rubs on with a cloth. Low odor. dries quickly. About $7. a can. Enough for a couple of chairs. You can apply 3 or more coats if you wish. Wait for the proper dry time between coats. Each coat makes a more durable finish. I used Formby's tung oil over 25 years ago on an unfinished pine cabinet. I applied 2 or 3 coats. It has held up beautifully. I also used it on a refinished 100 year old+ oak buffet. The finish still looks like new and has remained waterproof for over 25 years.

- I play the flute, a. I play Monday through Friday for an hour with my school band, and about 30 minutes to an hour most evenings. b. Proper posture is to have both feet flat on the floor while sitting on the edge of the seat with a straight back. c. I prefer to stand when I'm playing by myself, because it makes breathing easier. d. If I have to hold my instrument up for a while, my arms ache, but it's nothing too major. e. The worst part about being a flute player is having to adjust for space and trying to hold the instrument around the chair. So we're constantly shifting, trying to get comfortable. f. The chair I like to use if I have to sit is a little taller and has a lower back. g. The chairs I have to use are generally hard plastic, which is uncomfortable, and they have high backs that are difficult to maneuver around. h. Yes I would. i. One with a lower back, so I could hold my instrument over it, and a little more suited to sitting for longer periods of time.
