- Q: At about 8-9 this morning. Now they are pretty dried at 1 pm. I wanted to now re-arrange the furniture, but how long should i wait? its pretty dried, but i was still wondering?
- I really would wait as long as you can, overnight if possible even if it feels mostly dry, it can take a good 12-24 hours to dry tracking around and dragging furniture can just get your clean carpet dirty again until the shampoo solution dries it can be tacky or sticky and really absorb dirt, then when its fully dry the dirt is sealed in

- Is this exactly how the problem is worded. or are you missing some details or making a typo (like the area of 2 rugs being 240 and not 24) ? what do you mean by combined. I assume, if you have 3 rugs with areas(R1, R2, R3) then I wonder if the combined area is R1+R2+R3 = 200 or R1R2R3=200 (since R1+R2 =24). when you say the area covered by exactly two rugs is 24 does this mean that the RUGs are separated. Do you want to know the area of the RUGs overlapped or separated.

- Hey...hey! I am a flooring associate from The Home Depot, and I feel like I've used Rug Doctor in my own place as much as renting them out when I worked in Tool Rental at my store. Using a Rug Doctor is great for your carpets but the carpet tends to dry out using it after 48 hours or so after using it. For your first question, you can put the furniture back in PROVIDED they don't come into much contact with the carpet. For example, I put my queen sized bed back in my room after cleaning it with a Rug Doctor since only 4 posts touched the carpeted floor. If you have a chance to grab a small throw mat or a bit of plastic sheeting, it would be good too for staying in the room. And here's a tip, be barefoot on the carpet during when it is wet. Keep the shoes and sandals outside or in another room, since wet carpet will attract any dirt under your shoes. You should be fine in staying in the room, provided you give places like under the study table and bed proper ventilation to let the carpet fibers dry out properly. If not, you'll have the water/cleaner mixture sour, and leaving a bad smell. To eliminate this, I'd strongly suggest putting in a box or table fan on the floor or even renting out a floor fan. They look like a large whistle, and they put out a lot of air, thereby reducing drying time for your carpets. Hope this helps out you, aboveaveragejoe

- Keep at it. The fuzz in the carpet will dissipate. If you can afford a new vacuum, go for it.

- If it is being sold to cut up, I wonder if it would make any difference to clean first. And, if it might have some value, do some research first, to make sure that your cleaning method doesn't actually lower that value.
- Q: My cat doesn't understand what can she do with a scratcher--a cardboard thingy we got at a pet store, she pushes it away and goes directly to the rug. What should I give her to keep her off the rug? I tried putting a wooden board for her, but she didn't scratch that either.
- Cardboard? Whatever happened to a regular scratching post? There are sprays you can get that will deter scratching. You could also spray her with water in a spray bottle every time she scratches something that is not a scratching post.

- It's funny you mentioned water torture. Actually, having a water feature like a fountain or anything that makes a running water noise will help. Place it near a window. I once lived a few doors down from a pedestrian crosswalk in Japan that beeped with one sound for all blind people crossing one direction, and a different beep for going across the other side of the intersection. It was 24 hours a day, and switched about every 25 seconds. I thought I would die at first, but after 3 years (ha ha!) I barely noticed it! Good luck to you!

- Q: we are trying to remove the old carpets in my house. you see last year, are air conditioner broke and leaked fluid all over the hallway carpet, and now we're trying to remove them. how do you do it with out ruining the floor below.
- Go to a corner and simply pull up the carpet. It is probably attached by a tack strip.....a strip of wood with slanting nails to hold the carpet. Remove all of the carpeting and then all of the padding underneath. A dust mask is a good idea while doing this. If you intend to send the carpet out with the trash, cut strips no larger than 4 feet and roll the strips up into tight tubes and tie with string. Last, remove the tack strip. The tack strip has been nailed down. A small nail every 6 inches or so. Remove the strip carefully. If you need to pry, use a piece of the padding or carpet under your pry bar so as not to dent the flooring. You will have some nail holes in the flooring from the tack strip, but this is close to the wall and so it won't be too noticeable. Know that you probably have water damage on the flooring from your leak and you may need to have the floors refinished. Good luck!
